Toys R Us Reissue Soundwave

Postby inturnmike » Fri Feb 09, 2007 8:43 am

Anyone else kind of disappointed with their Soundwave? I love having a tight, brand new one with the cassettes! However, the feet of Laserbeak do not fit snugly into the wings in cassette mode, causing it to lose its smoothe tape-like look. Also, the guns fit rather loosely into his holes and move around because of this.

Also, why is it that Soundwave's tape deck is an extra tape's depth? Is it to fit both of them in there at once? The packaging claims we now hold in our hands a toy that is "identical in every way" to the G1 version. But that is most definitely NOT identical.

Lastly, the Play, Rewind, etc. buttons stick out way too much. Perhaps this is to keep in proportion with the larger tape deck?

What does everyone else think?

Thanks![/b]

I don't know for certain, becuase I haven't found one yet, but I think that this is a reissue of Soundwave but the body is really Soundblaster, who had a chest that could hold two tapes at once and such. I don't know, so don't quote me. Hopefully a run after work will net me a Soundwave, so then I can speak with authority.

I've got one. Yes, the chest is big enough to hold both Laserbeak and Ravage. Yes, I also found that Laserbeak's feet don't tuck in quite as tight as I would like. That's okay as currently he's sitting on Classics Megatron's arm.

As for the guns, mine fit tight enough. Not so tight as I have trouble getting them in and out, but they do not move around on their own.

I never had a G1 Soundwave, so the deeper chest doesn't bother me in the least. I'm just happy to finally have one in my collection.

And yes, according to other comments I've seen, mostly before the Great Forums Purge, this appears to be a remold of Soundblaster in Soundwave colors.

I have just looked up the Soundblaster version and agree that it Soundwave is definitely a re-color of it. I guess it is cool that it will hold both tapes. But it shouldn't say on the box that it is a replica that is identical in every way to the G1 toy, then.

The Laserbeak that came with my Soundwave has the same problem with the guns - in fact, they are so loose if you turn him over they fall out.

Otherwise I am very happy with this set.

While I have not bought one for myself yet, I did buy one for my wife and brother, and they both like them a lot.

I did find the saying on the box, and thought it to be funny. HASBRO has given its bashers perfect fodder to use against them, printed truth that they blatantly lie to us. I suppose they did not say which G1 version, but it's not identical to either Soundwave or Soundblaster.

I also found that Ravage having the Fort Max weakness sticker was a bit odd, because there is no clear red plastic to show where the weakness is, thus it is useless. Leftover Takara stock??? That one caught me as very odd too.

Well, if you look at the box, every image is of the G1 version.

My guess is that they opted for the double deck since you're getting two cassette figures with Soundwave. They probably saw it as a favor to the consumer. Personally, I don't really care all that much about one little change.

Besides, the box also reads that "Product and colors may vary" from images printed on package.

It could be that they kept Ravage's stickers because they were going for as accurate a look to the G1 figures as they could.

You know, besides the double tape deck door...

...And the fact that the only Ravage released in the US or Japan that originally came with that sticker was with Soundblaster. Probably just kept the same set of stickers to apply as they did for the Japanese re-issue Ravage (w/Soundblaster).

I have Soundblaster and I love having a nice new Soundwave!

One thing however.... what color is your laserbeak? Mine looks more red/orange then the dark red of the original.

Also, is soundwave missing some stickers that Soundblaster had? I brought my Soundblaster Second hand so I don't know what stickers came with it because they were already applied. The shoulder missile Launcher on my Soundblaster came with Red stickers but Soundwave didn't come with any. :-?

(if your against the wall on this figure... Get Soundblaster if you can. Black and Red looks so much better on soundwave!)

Yeah, there's a bit of an orange tint to mine as well. Since I never owned another one, it doesn't bother me.

I received a sticker sheet in my Soundwave. I think it was tucked into my instruction sheet. This might be your missing stickers?

About the door on the tape deck, I read somewhere that they didn't have the proper mold for the one tape deck door, so they went with the soundblaster mold. They did it because it was easier than reverse engineering SW just to make the plastic door. I think I read it on here somewhere...

I'll check and take pics when I get home in about 5 hours. I don't think there were stickers on his cannons.

The Soundwave reissue definitely didn't come with those stickers - I can certainly think of worse things to be missing, but I did notice when I first opened mine. They're not on the sticker sheet, and they weren't pre-applied.

No red ring around guns. However, a couple of the stickers look like they might complete that look. Too bad there's no sticker app instructions...

I think it's misleading if the box states that it is identical to G1 Soundwave. That's not right. Transformer marketing has seemed to have taken a bad turn lately. I'll explain more if people are interested.

Everytime I ordered one from TRU they would wait 24 hours to send me a message they were out then wait an additional 72 hours to refund me. I constantly checked until the instant add to your cart would appear. I even called and ordered over the phone. After many failed attempts to buy one from TRU I resorted to buying one from ebay. Then it arrived I was on here and I accidentally clicked on the banner for actionHQ.com and noticed they had them. They charge a little more but worth it not to have to deal with the headache TRU was.
