Transformers Combiner Wars Devastator - So Big It Needs Its Own Thread
Re: Transformers Combiner Wars Devastator - So Big It Needs Its Own Thread
If they were putting out the Warriors united version, I'd buy that in a heartbeat. I already have this one, so I don't need to worry about it.
I'm happy for those who missed it who will get a chance to get it again though.

Nice for those who missed it, though im not sure many have with the UW version and the UW reissue and them being better than its Hasbro counterpart.
I picked up NBK devy first and waited to get the UW for £100. Eventually happened but I prefer the NBK one even if it's smaller.

It will be nice I guess for anyone who didn't get one previously. I adore my UW Version, and Taikongzahns KO shrunk down version which scales with other CW combiners. best of both worlds

Nice for those that still want one, I guess? If this had the UW improvements I could understand it more- quite frankly, the stock Hasbro version is IMO inexcusably bad between its structural deficiencies and lack of elbows on Scrapper and Long Haul. And even UW can't solve the general cheap look, wonky proportions (Devastator ends up with Sailor Moon legs) and the fact he's just too damn big. Personally I think we really, REALLY need a new official Devastator seeing as the only CHUG options from 3Ps are the oldest complete 3P combiners on the market and all other offerings are MP scaled. I love my Maketoys Giant but I feel HasTak could make an amazing Devastator if they released the individually and with WFC trilogy levels of budget and engineering.

Dammit, I didn't even know how big of a difference there was until this thread made me look up the UW differences. Now I want a reissue of that!

There actually was a small reissue of UW Devastator last year I believe along with Superion...But sadly those have since sold out as well.

Good news! You're going to die with all of your organs intact (or at least you wont be selling any for MP Devi). The CW figure was intended to be an MP until HasTak decided they didn't want to do an MP combiner and dumbed it down for CW (and then reinstated a bunch of parts for the far superior Japanese Unite Warriors line. Yes, there's supposed to be an MP Raiden coming, but that's likely a one-off since Japan LOVES trains in ways the rest of the world doesn't understand.

Hey while on that subject of Raiden there was some kind of news a while back of a Re-release of the Takara figure or a modern version?

I really dig everyone's love for UW Devastator. I recall seeing the Hasbro version once and only once at a local Target and it just happen to marked clearance.
Yes indeed it is an awesome Transformer be sure of it! In fact I was able to keep my organs
after I bought a second set because the Constructicons themselves are an awesome group to have as well.
And I did it again with Predicons...'nuff said!

Garbage......if this is supposed to be the closest to a MP set done Hasbro/Takara it's a shame. The set looks all too plain. I was debating on it when an add on set came out but after watching multiple videos I decided that that wouldn't even help. it's a good thing, though, because Kingdom is going be be making my wallet cry......and the 86' movie SS ....I so can't wait for those...

The heads are different, the UW version has an optional visor sort of like Metroplex, that's the major physical change. The UW version does have purple hands, slightly different green overall, and Mixmaster had a truck front painted on the foot.

So realistically, if people are going to display the Constructicons, they're like to do it as Devestator, thus getting their panties all bunched up over UW being better is kinda pointless given there's only a few minor differences once combined.
I mean sure, if you're displaying them individually that would be different, but once again, people getting all ragey over nothing.

I believe the UW set has some more secure locking tabs and better ratchets in the arms as wel. Could be wrong though.

I think it's just the knee-jerk "we must praise Takara and bash Hasbro at any opportunity" reflex this fandom has had for as long as I can remember. Any difference at all is proof that Hasbro is the literal devil and anyone who'll settle for the Hasbro releases is not a true fan and/or is flat out braindead. I honestly got sick of hearing it to the point where it got hard to be a part of any conversation in the fandom.
I have the CW version, and I really don't see what's so horribly wrong with it.

People were paying £££/$$$ on upgrades just to make the Hasbeo one do what the Takara one does out of the box. Dunno who them people were but the price of the third party kits that sold were real.
It's just a case of one better version of a toy over another, sometimes Hasbro is better than Takara, sometimes not.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. There's plenty of figures from the CW/UW era Hasbro honestly did better (the Stunticons, especially Dragstrip spring to mind) but CW Devastator is at least IMO unacceptable. The fact that a modern set of figures came missing basic articulation- not ab crunches or butterfly joints, but FUNCTIONAL ELBOWS- absolutely baffles me. Now granted the UW version doesn't fix the issues I have with the base set of figures (enormous compared to the other combiners, weird proportions, overall cheap look) but at the very least it makes them functional toys.
I know some people are OK with gimped individuals if the combined mode looks better as a result, but for one thing I personally don't think he looks all that great, even discounting the bizarre decision to make him huge he just looks kinda gangly and weird, and for another, if you only care about combined mode, why even bother buying a set of transforming figures? At that point wouldn't it be better to just buy a giant Action Master? IIRC there was a 3P non-transforming but highly accurate Devastator.

Re: Transformers Combiner Wars Devastator - So Big It Needs Its Own Thread
I think the main issue a lot of folks, me included, had with the Hasbro version was the fact that it seemed "stripped down" compared to the Takara. Now... it's possible that the Hasbro one was "the first pass" and Takara decided, "we can do better". But it really seems like Takara had been much further along, and then for some reason Hasbro cut corners.
Keep in mind we were in the middle of an entire product line that had maybe... five unique transformation schemes to the vehicles. MANY used if not the exact same design nods and were just re-shelled if not just head and paint swaps.
So when Takara came blasting out of the gate the same day (week?) has Hasbro with an arguably better product.... it just was bad move...
As far as the Titan scale. It feels the appropriate size, for MPs (blends right in with Grapple) in robot mode, however, the gestalt mode feels appropriately scaled for War for Cybertron (in my mind). As a side note, keep in mind that the average Combiner War character is currently out of scale with the War for Cybertron Trilogy (though it kind of works in the Dinobots favor at least).
Part of me wishes all the Combiner War combiners were Devastator sized, but that would the robot modes really out of scale (maybe as super cheap MPs?)

Hasbro cut parts to get the price down for the Titan class price, Takara had designed him to be MP level originally. Takara have the advantages of not sticking to defined price points, something that worked for Hasbro for years.

I like trains. Really hoping Hasbro can bring us the Train Zords that BOA skipped.

There's another aspect that wasn't discussed in terms of differences and it definitely involves the combined mode: the ratcheted shoulders. Devy's arms are rather heavy and the hasbro version just relies on friction to hold a pose involving moving his arms outward, which doesn't work. With takara's version, they have ratchets there so you can hold more dynamic poses.

I wrote a list of all the upgrades the UW version offers here:
https://www.seibertron.com/transformers ... -04/34421/
For me there was also the idea of principle. Like if I am going to spend this much on a toy, I'd like to get my money's worth. Clearly the voyager sized toys were intended to have elbows, so why not pay the extra bit and open up those poseability options. There's a random tab on Hook's crane that seems to serve no purpose until you get the UW version and see it used as weapon storage in alt mode. It's of course minor, I agree, but I didn't want to get a toy that felt gutted.

Transformers Combiner Wars Devastator Reissue Delayed
- Motto: "'till All Are One"
Ozformers, who first stated that there would be an Amazon exclusive reissue of Combiner Wars Devastator has now announced that it wouldn't see a release until January. It was initially supposed to come out before the year ends.
This was posted on Facebook.
A "small" update from Hasbro, just days after we broke the news...the reissue Combiner Wars Devastator has been delayed to January (everywhere, not just Australia, so it isn't just us this time).
