Tru re-issues

Maybe it's something to do with aesthetics? Large missiles don't look so out of place on a robot's arms or under the wings (a la the Seekers) but having large missiles sitcking either side of Prowl's head (or on Jazz or SOundwave's shoulders) would look pretty silly. So, instead of giving them large missiles, they just disabled the launchers. That's just a guess, though.

If you are talking about the US reissues, the launchers on Prowl were disabled for safety reasons.

... because, by law, the missles were too short: projectiles of any kind need to be 2 inches or more. Back in 1984, the launchers just had the weak springs hold the missles in place; for the reissues, either the missles are elongated or the launchers are disabled completely to comply with the updated Toy Safety Laws.

One has to wonder, how most of us over the age of 25 survived a time where all toys by todays standards where "death traps".

We should all have been dead by the age of 12.

And yet here we are still buying these "death traps" at outrageous prices.

Life is a mystery.

Agreed. We need to limit law suits and re-instate natural selection.

Agreed on both counts. Limiting law suits will actually let the courts do what they are susposed to do, and natural selection will take care of the stupid ones. As for those who somehow make it though natural selection, I propose a test, soemthing that involves Larry the Cable guy and NASCAR...

The launchers are all readily re-armed. If you are so inclined. Soundwave is easiest to do. Just jack a spring from a cheap ballpoint, stretch it out slightly, then a little trim. Make sure the spring is wide enough for the missle stalk to fit inside. Remember to do this BEFORE stickers. Maybe I will do up a little follow along with pics if anyone is interested?

P.S.

My neighbor stopped in for a beer a while back, and upon seeing my collection, relayed his story of how HE was one of the kids who shot himself in the eye with, OF ALL THINGS, Roller! I asked him how the hell he managed that? So he picks up my G1 Prime trailer and peers in the back, mimicking a little kid. Then he accidentally hits the release, and shoots himself in the eye again! I told him, "You don't know how many fans just slapped you.."
