Underrated Movie Figs

Postby Dean ML » Wed Nov 30, 2011 1:32 am

Thinking about it, there are a lot of movie figures in my collection that I don't see getting enough love around here. For example...

2007 Leader Megatron - He seems to be universally hated, but I think the only drawbacks to this mold are that his wings are too large, the jet pieces that fold back on his forearms, and he's too small compared to other leaders. His first blue/pink frozen paint job was attrocious, but the premium color scheme brings out the best in the mold. I also love his mace hand and that his arms can combine like they do in the movie. Granted, his alt mode just looks like a folded up robot.

RotF Leader Megatron - He's far from perfect, but Has/Tak did get him remarkably close to his original CGI design (which you can see on the RotF special edition disc). His main drawback is his enormous and completely unposeable right arm, which, admittedly, is a pretty big darn drawback. But I love all the details in the mold, he's virtually kibble free, and I actually enjoy his relatively simple transformation. If we end up getting a leader Shockwave, I imagine he's going to end up very similar to RotF leader Megs, for better or worse.

RotF Mixmaster - This guy's transformation is as complex as any leader figure's! I love it, though. His bot mode is extremely movie accurate, although given a weird color scheme. This guy seems to be made of a hundred damn parts! Very poseable, too. I have never attempted his cannon mode, so I can't comment on it.

RotF Legends Arcee - I love her because she scales so well with the other movie figures, if you care about that kind of thing like I do. Looks great posed with Sideswipe going after Sideways.

DotM Voyager Ironhide - The best movie representation of Ironhide there is. Much more accurate than the original voyager mold or the leader mold. His bot mode is practically kibble free, unlike the other two aforementioned molds which wear huge truck backpacks. He's also more poseable than the other two molds. I do wish they could've captured the stockiness of this movie design. Thicker thighs would've been nice, especially if they could've put his tires on the back of his thighs instead of his calves.

DotM Deluxe Bumblebee - The only drawback to this figure is the lazy color choices hasbro made to this accurate mold. I love Battle Blades Bee, too, but this one impoves on BB Bee's hunchback posture. Best Bumblebee transformation yet. Efficient and enjoyable.

DotM Dluxe Topspin - OK, he already seems to get a lot of love around here, but I have to add to it. This guy's just about perfect in all areas. He just seems to have something extra.

Regret never picking up RotF Jolt. The more I've looked at him online, though, the more I want him. Seems very poseable, lots of parts, fairly accurate, and overall pretty fun. Looks much better than the DotM mold, which bears very little resemblance to his movie design (what little we saw of it). Better pick him up while I can still find him.

DOTM Skids and Mudflap. I just love those two. DOTM voyager Prime was also an instant love affair, after getting damn near perfect Primes in ROTF, this design is a little more cartoonish, which works for me. GREAT botmode.

If I see DotM Mudflap and Skids on clearance, I might pick them up. Their small size would be perfect against the RotF figures. Forgot about them!

Weapon: Dark Saber Sword
RotF Chromia and Arcee - They are among my favorites in the line.
DotM voyager Optimus - He may not be the most screen accurate, but he's a great figure and looks badass!
DotM supreme Optimus - Again, not very screen accurate, but I think the toy with the beefed up battle suit looks a lot better than just Optimus with a jetpack.
DotM Barricade - The best version of Barricade yet, I even prefer it to the HA Barricade.

i agree that DOTM skids and mudflap are underrated. i love them, and mudflap has the most paint i have seen of a DOTM toy.
voyager 2007 movie megatron. i dont have him but i was looking at my friends toy and man, i feel like an idiot for not getting it.
DOTM voyager prime. yeah, he is pretty bad ass looking.
the megatron leaders, i think that the only one out of the two is underrated and thats the first movie one. ROTF megs is total crap. i regret customizing my 2007 leader megs. :(
ROTF mixmaster is awesome, i dont see why he is hated so much.
yeah there are too many bumblebees but there are good toys. DOTM deluxe (first one), HFTD battle blade bumblebee, and 2007 concept camaro bee. i love them.

check out my collection thread, updated 2/25/13, and i kinda lost count, i have to count them again....

2007 Leader Megatron -

I liked him more than expected. I only got him cos leader Prime needed him. The paint scheme ruined the figure but I fixed mine. The jet mode can be improved like this:

Image

RotF Leader Megatron -

he's so far from perfect that I HATE this figure. There are so many things that are wrong with it. I don't care if it looks like the original CGI, it was a stupid design. It took a lot of work to make him decent:

Image

RotF Mixmaster -

His transformation is insane. Don't bother with his 'canon mode', it's terrible.

DotM Voyager Ironhide - The best movie representation of Ironhide there is.

I disagree but to each their own. He's just too damn skinny. I stuck with the 07 design. I'm amazed by the poor response that figure got. He's bulky and poseable. The only thing missing is a ball joint neck:

DOTM Leader BB - I think he's one of the best BB molds, fairly accurate and great possibility, perhaps he is off scale, other than that I think he's my best BB and I've all the mentioned mold and even HFTD Battle Ops BB.

I am a fan of the first movie Leader Megatron. I think the paint could be better on him, but I like the figure.

I logged in to mention this guy. He's a very cool figure if you ask me, but then I'm a sucker for translucent plastic. I used him as a stand-in for Tracks on my Classics shelf for a while, the rear of the car can be put in the right position and the car doors can be made into 'wings', he looks a lot cooler that way.

I definitely should've added him to my list. I finally got him last week and am extremely happy with him. Surprised I haven't seen more praise for this guy. Blows away the original deluxe mold, which I kinda liked. This guy's very accurate, very poseable, and just looks great, especially his arms. I really love that his fingers are on a hinge and I always love when Transformers have a swivel waist. Can't wait for the next wave of deluxes so I can have Barricade and Soundwave executing Que!

It's really surprising how many DotM figures are new molds of old characters that barely show up in the movie or not at all. Since that's the case, I'd love it if we got a new Jazz mold. He'd be great as a smaller Mechtech deluxe figure since his original deluxe mold was so bulky. Maybe for the trilogy line, but I'm not holding my breath.

Can I say one that's designed like a movie character, but isn't sold in the movie line?

Because PCC Smolder is actually pretty neat, and it sucks he gets so much crap being a PCC.
PLEASE contact me if you have any of the following, or know where I can find them:
[list]
[*]Cybertron Leader Class Optimus Prime's wings
[*]RTS Deluxe Optimus Prime's sword
[*]Cybertron Voyager Vector Prime's sword

Thank you.
