Universe Sideswipe problem...help?

Postby OPTIMUS MAGNUS » Sat Oct 11, 2008 8:38 pm

Hello, I picked up 2 Universe sideswipes today from 2 different stores and have the same problem with both  . The door panel on the left forearm is so loose it swings...I see the screw to tighten the door panel but i'm not sure how to get to the screw. If you have one, ( I believe it is the same for Sunstreaker.) please ake a look and let me know if anything can be done that does not consist with the removal of a pin. Any one else had this problem?

Thanks in advance for any information that leads to the fixing of this problem!

I was looking at this myself today. That screw only holds the door onto the black rotating piece. What it looks like to me is you have to punch out the pin in the lower forearm, and that will separate the two pieces. Then you could go in with some clear nail polish to tighten it up. Kind of a pain.

What I'm actually trying is to use small spots of nail polish at a time on the exposed plastic. Then rotating the door around the forearm to spread it around evenly. It'll take a little while but I believe it will work, and be easier to boot.

Yeah, I was afraid of that pin removal thing   At least I'm not the only one with this problem. Sideswipe is so awesome too....QC should have picked up on this one. Thanks for the advice. I may have to use the nail polish trick myself.

Wow, Galvatron and Acid Storm have become a pox around here.

Still do not let the possible loose door let anyone be swayed from picking up Sideswipe. He is pure awesome. I wish Sunstreakers engine would've been painted like Sideswipes. In fact I don't even see a reason to pass up the universe versions of him or Silverstreak for the Henkeis. They are both very very nice.

Totally agree sideswipe and Silverstreak are awesome. I too now use Sideswipe's engine on Streaker...weird how I was thinking the same. The door thing bums me out but not enough to tell folks not to buy em. Sideswipe is awesome and in my top 3 favorite Autobots.

Sideswipe is a great figure, though on the back of the box the image they showed of his robot mode made his chest look really bulk and actually almost made me not buy the figure. But I decided to do it just to have him in vehicle form but the robot mode is actually more appealing to me, the angle they used was really horrible!

He goes right next to my Transformers Universe Botcon Sideswipe now.

yup but it acts as a handheld gun and a sholder cannon. Man I want one but all the stores round me are clogged with Galvatrons and wave ones. :-x

I got Sideswipe, along with Sunstreaker and Ironhide yesterday, saw Silverstreak but passed on him.

Surprisingly they didn't come with lose doors on their arms, so I was pleasantly surprised with that.

I completely prefer Sideswipe to Sunstreaker, he's more appealing to the eye, plus Sunstreaker's chest plate, the roof of his car, looks like it was created by a kindergartner. Everyone knows you use yellow first, then black on top, not black, then yellow.

Anywho, looking at Sideswipe and his forearm doors, it really looks like you will in fact need to take the forearm apart on whichever arm is loose, in order to be able to get at that screw that connects to the door.

How's the best way to pop a pin out? Heat up the plastic and risk damage? I have never been successful with the removal of pins. :)

Do you have Prowl? I basically just got my Silverstreak because I love Smokescreen and figured I'd get the full set. Buit really man, this figure is soooo much better than Prowl and may just be the best figure I have bought this year.

Nope, passed on Prowl as well. The molds just didn't really kick me in the head and say "buy me!" like the others did, same with Galvatron, Powerglide, Onslaught, and every other figures from the classics line save for Mirage and Jetfire.

Man, I hope none of the new figures (Sideswipe, Silverstreak, Ironhide)
that I should be getting in the mail this week have any problems....

But I personally think Silverstreak does look better than Prowl.
There's something about the combination of colors in his bot mode that are just on point.

Same thing goes for Sideswipe, although it's also the way he transforms, and as someone mentioned, the difference in the look of the hood being the chest.

I'm very anxious to see Smokescreen's bot mode...
Big up's to Hasbro for not making him some sort of convention exclusive!!!!

My Swipe has a problem in the same area, just a little different. The black piece that connects the door to his arm is mangled and misformed, with two of the three "flaps" completly wrecked.

And there isn't any more in the store to take it back.

Also, the gun handle on mine is too big and it doesn't fit in the shoulder.

The gun seemed a bit too large for the hole on his shoulder when I first got Sideswipe as well.

But using a tad-bit of force allows the gun to easily slip into the shoulder-hole.

If you want to fix the door thing, It's easy.

Just get a small bit of superglue and put it in the joint. Then continue to move the joint around till the glue sets.

Don't stop moving the door for at least 1 min or it will bind up!!!

The loose joint fix is listed in the kitbashing forums. It's an old model maker's trick.

Hope that helps, and don't blame me if you glue your doors down! :P

I haven't had any problems with itronhide, silverstreak or sideswipe figures but then I seem to get lucky about 99% the only one I have had any trouble with thus far is galavtron.

I found a near-perfect Sideswipe the other day. I have open'd 4 of them until I found one without the loose door problem. This one is minty with tight joints, no paint app. flaws and no factory blemishes...so, in a nutshell a loose, mint Universe Sideswipe worthy of shelf room only cost me 40 bucks! #-o
