What are the most extensive or interesting comics?

I am wanting to get into the TF comics finally, but wanted to get some info in which ones are the most informational, deep, confusing, etc blah whatever. The War Within story idea seems alright, but before I go banking on anything I figured I'd ask. I don't want any weird crap like TF and Rainbow Bright meet Gargamel or anything like that. Just good stories or at least something that gets into the older storylines.

It would be hard to get, but I'd recommend the old G1 UK comics.
Alternately, you could go for the IDW comics but stop at All Hail Megatron. At that "milestone" the comic drops to season 3 level storytelling.

The UK run of Marvels G1 was by far the best. You used to be able to buy the entire run as scanned images on eBay for very little.

Saying something COMPLETELY unpopular, but....Dreamwave. Yeah, I know, they folded before they got to resolve any storylines but...wow, such great stories!! War Within has to be one of my all time faves!!
As is, of course, Megatron Origin. And I admit to a desperate love for Reign of Starscream, which somehow (and how wrong is this?) didn't even get a nod in the upcoming 'Best of Starscream'?
HK, the UK ones are good but the coloring is eye-hurty.

Here are my recommendations:
1.) Last Stand of the Wreckers
2.) Megatron Origin
3.) Stormbringer
4.) Maximum Dinobots
5.) Spotlight: Revelation
6.) All Hail Megatron
If you want to stray outside of the IDW continuity, then I would definitely recommend all three of Dreamwave's "War Within" story-arcs.

Don't listen to the haters All Hail Megatron is the GREATEST Transformers comic ever. The Decepticons are actually terrifying, the Autobots are real underdogs and the humans don't act like complete and total morons.
The current ongoing series is equally great story showing what happens after the war is "over" and how both sides are dealing with it.
The only IDW series before All Hail Megatron that is really worth reading is Stormbringer and it's OK at best, the rest of the Books of Furman are terrible. Avoid Revelation and Maximum Dinobots they both suck big time.
If you want the old Marvel UK series I would recommend Prey, Target: 2006, Fallen Angel, Space Pirates, and Time War.
Dreamwave the only thing worth reading is the profile books, the rest of DW is pure and total crap.

I'd go with the Marvel stuff, mostly UK and some of the US. Other than IDW's movie comics and some of the Titan magazine movie stories I haven't enjoyed any other TF comics since G2's brief run despite how many times I try to give the DW and IDW stuff another go (All Hail Megatron pretty nearly put me off any IDW comics TF or otherwise for life, it's just plain awful through and through)
I have anxiety, depression and aspergers syndrome so my behaviour can be erratic. I don't mean offense to anyone. Just very picky about my Transformers collecting. You're all cool!
Likes: Bayverse, Marvel UK G1, Geoff Senior art, '86 movie (more for style/soundtrack rather than Star Wars plot)
Dislikes: Bumblebee movie (lousy rehashed dumb crud), TFA, G1 cartoon, IDW G1, BW/BM, MP. The entire concept of Autobot Megatron

Gotta love the broken base here, there's issues/storyarcs that some find too horrible to read while others love it.

Yeah this is def a scattered bunch of answers. Looks like War Within is the winner. I read reviews on the Omnibus, anybody have the disintegrating issues with the book like I keep reading about? The price goes from 20 bucks to one hundred, which is insane, especially if it's gonna fall apart.
I have seen All Hail Megatron in a few random places, but the covers always threw me off. I thought it was just an advertisement, lol.

Well, try War Within Vol. 1 first, it's got my personal recommendation.
Not everyone liked War Within Vol. 2, I liked it. It essentially recycled some unused lore from the end of Marvel G1 (G2 by extension).
War Within 3 was never finished, you might wanna skip this one.

The UK stuff was great, but Furman's best work has to be G2, issue 1 to 12 are the best!

Re: What are the most extensive or interesting comics?
I'm a huge fan of Dreamwave's G1 stuff so I may be overly enthusiastic.
The MTMTE Profile books are fantastic. Such an amazing grasp of each character and the last issue made a brave and nicely executed attempt to explain everything from mass shifting to sparks. The Armada MTMTE books are nice read, giving character to all those little Mini-cons.
The last Armada arc: Worlds' Collide is a great crossover.
The Energon run was great too.
Marvel UK: Most of it is great but Target:2006 is a must.
Furman's US run for Marvel, both G1 and 2.
IDW:
Last Stand of the Wreckers
The Beast Wars books. A lot of fans complain about the profile book but I loved it.
Megatron: Origin
All Hail Megatron. Most noteable is Nick Roche's piece about Prowl. Makes him a really interesting character as he was always meant to be.
Some Spotlights are great, like Galvatron, Prowl, Nightbeat, Shockwave and Soundwave. AVOID Mirage and Ramjet.
Furman's 'ation' series' are great. AVOID Stormbringer. Souless, overrated and a blasphemy against Marvel's awesome interpretation of Thunderwing.
I've also enjoyed the first trade of IDW's G1 ongoing.
Some lesser knowns:
Devil's Due TF/GI Joe Crossovers are great apart from the 2nd series though it has some interesting designs.
The Botcon comics: Desceent into Evil and Wings of Honour are very enjoyable.

I just started getting into transformers comics but I've got to Recommend Dreamwave's Transformers Armada issues 14-18 Worlds Collide. It is just so amazing to finally see an actual crossover with characters from different Transformers series.

Just reiterating most of what's been posted:
Musts:
- Dreamwave's G1 volumes 1 and 2, especially 2. We get to see the REAL Ultra Magnus.
- Marvel US G1 and G2, especially from G1 issue 56 on, when Furman took over. Before that, Budiansky's best work was the Underbase Saga, issues 47-50.
- Dreamwave's Armada comics, ALL of them, but especially issues 14-18. Pure WIN.
- The War Within volumes, the first 2, anyway, the 3rd was never finished.
Avoid:
- The Energon comics, they just nosedived after the Armada issues were over. Total crap.
- Dreamwave's Micromasters mini-series. LAAAAAME.
The other stuff mentioned I can't speak on because I never read them, like the UK version of Marvel or the IDW stuff. I started reading them, but they sucked, so I stopped. I would like to check out Last Stand of the Wreckers and Maximum Dinobots though.

Second for Dreamwave. WWI could have been great had they been able to finish it, and The Dark Age was a fantastic arc, and gave us the Fallen. The real one, not the stupid movie one.
IDW, cant miss with Megatron Origins or Stormbringer. I really like AHM, but the new ongoing is lame to me.

War Within
Dreamwave G1, mostly bad art but still pretty cool story.
Dreamwave TF vs GIJoe, pretty damn cool
Dreamwave Armade including Energon, with the first few Energon issues being my fave (Scorponok FTW!)
idw the "-tion" series
Stormbringer
LAst Stand of the Wreakers
Megatron origin
And the Spotlights (Stop at Sideswipe (freaking amazing art! Sadly the story part kinda sucks due to idw pushing AHM and therefore shoehorning three six issue storylines into 4 issues)
And if you like you could try the Animated The Arrival but only if you've seen the cartoon and liked it.

The Marvel UK stuff is the best. Marvel G2 is pretty good, and the DW WW books were interesting as well. I also enjoyed the IDW books until AHM. I couldn't finish the series, and it actually put me off of buying any more IDW TF books (other than the Last Stand of the Wreckers, of course).

Is there no love OR hate for Nefarious? I love nefarious. Soundwave is one of the best villians. It also gives us Bayverse Rumbe, Beastbox, and Lazerbeak. War Within is great. Stay away from Micromasters, it sucz. Nefarious FTW!

I recommend the whole Marvel run. Top of any Transformers history.
Dreamwave: Any, minus Micromasters is all right.
Also, any IDW comic NOT written by Myke Costa is cool.
