I mean, I know G1 Soundwave was from 1974 and G1 Huffer's mold is pretty ancient too.

Any ideas? :CROW:

I've heard (at BotCon 2010) that G1 Sunstreaker was the first toy to transform from car to robot.

Incorrect. The 1974 copyright date stems from Japanese copyright laws, which state that the original year of the line needs to be stamped on too. In this case, Microman started in 1974.

This has been asked before, so search the archives. :)

then, it should be Sunstreaker that gets the MP treatment, since they can't reissue the original
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.

Well, with Sideswipe as MP-11, could happen sooner rather than later.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

Weapon: Nuclear Charged Fusion Cannon
"According to Hasbro, the pre-Transformers Diaclone version of Sunstreaker was the first transforming car-to-robot toy ever designed, namely by Kōjin Ōno.[1] His alternate mode, a modified Lamborghini Countach with a rear-mounted supercharger engine, is actually based on an older Takara toy from their Microman line, the "Cosmo Countach" from 1978, which could also transform, albeit only into a weird half-robot, half-car hybrid."

The link to the cite on Hasbro's site is dead, though...

I found the link to the "Cosmo Countach" amusing though. There's also one on there that looks like an ancestor of Jazz, though it's more of a M.A.S.K. than a transformer (Porche into nitro burning funnycar instead of a robot).

I would way rather Sunstreaker over Sideswipe for the MP treatment. Especially knowing he's the first ever toy to transform.

I'm not against Sideswipe by any means but just......save him for later. [-(

Found this page, with a small image of the Cosmo Countach: http://www.spencer1984.com/serendipity/ ... -Link.html

That's cool that Sunstreaker was the "first", because that's one of the figures that survived my childhood and I still have. I don't have any Masterpieces in my collection, but I'd buy that one.

But in that light, it 1974 is still when the mold was made.

No, NOT the mold - the first toy in the toy line.

I don't know if you're joking or not, even with that emote.

Still, designing a mold in 1974, only to release it 10 years later in the Microchange subline (Yes, Soundwave was first released in 1983 as MC-10 Cassette Robo), that makes a lot of sense.

1983 and 1984 are the birth years of all Microman based TF toys, not 1974.

I think you misunderstood. I think they're saying that the mold was made in 1984, but it was stamped with the year in which the license was trademarked: 1974.
