Re: What up with movie cliffjumper
just got movie CJ for valentine's day. and i have to admit, it's the only movie toy i have that has "movie toy curse" problems. as in flimsy/cheap feeling plastic and a transformation that feels like it'll break. which is weird, because my BB has no such problems. CJ's joints are tighter, but i think that makes for a more difficult transformation.
but apparently i'm the only one that likes bumblebee more.

Guys...
The first series of Mini-Bots came from Microman, not Diaclone. All Microman toys were scaled 1:1 (or at least that was the intention) and so were the Mini-Bots, as they were based on the cutesy Penny Racers (which explains lack of realism).
Of the original 7 only Bumblebee, Cliffjumper and "Bumblejumper/Bumper" came in 3 colors: red, yellow and blue. Hasbro only got the red and yellow ones with taken over stock. So there was was no repainting done by Hasbro, period: they already were red or yellow.

Sucks!
...
Not quite.
There were no Bumblebees or CJ's in A/E/C.
And as for Magnii in those lines: Only Energon had a Magnus, and he was not a recolored prime mold he was in fact a recolored Overload mold from Armada. Which was in fact its own mold intended to be UItra Magnus originally, but got the name Overload instead.
Actually the only 2 lines to actually have Magnus be a Repainted Prime mold within the same line are MP and Classics. There have been Magnii who are repainted from Primes but not within the same line.
R.I.D had their very own Magnus Mold also.
The fact remains that Since BB and CJ where so similar (even though the alt modes where different) in G1, they have become repaints of the same mold today.

Aren't Cliffjumper and Hubcap the same mould, just with a different face?

No, Cliffjumper and Hubcap have a different rear spoiler.

They were repainted by Hasbro in G2.
Also, they were actually repainted in White, Green, and Orange under license by Antex if you want to get technical.

Well, there was this abomination:

Actually, does anyone know what the rationale was behind not having one of the most popular characters represented in A/E/C? I mean, they didn't even reuse the name. Was Energon Ironhide basically the Bumblebee stand-in?

Bumblebee's name was not available for use by Hasbro until Classics and the movie. Hot Shot's been a kind of stand-in for both Bumblebee and Hot Rod until that point.

How did I forget about that one? So yes there was a CJ. of course it bears no real relation to CJ or BB. Other than the name.

Re: What up with movie cliffjumper
The release of Movie Cliffjumper toy as the exact twin of Bumblebee, shows that the Cliffjumper character will never appear in this live-action continuity.

Overcracker makes me curse with his sweet sig showing Cybertron mode un-released titaniums... They looks so perty!
Ultra Magnus was not only a Prime repaint in Classics, and Masterpiece, it started way back in G1 (and before if you prefer), when they used the same came cab from Diaclone Battle Convoy to create Diaclone Powered Convoy--the battle suited version that became Ultra Magnus.
Then they used those molds over again as Optimus Prime, and Ultra Magnus, respectively, and thus, where Dreamwave's idea took its inspiration in the G1 series 2 where Magnus sheds the armor to look exactly like Optimus Prime, but white.
The idea has been used in Revoltech, with Takara's re-issue of G2 Laser Optimus Prime, and then the repainted E-hobby Magnus version. It's been in the Smallest Transformers with a white Magnus as a chase figure. You can throw the WWI Titnium Magnus in there, as well as the NIKE Free 7.0 Marine Convoy which is widely accepted as a Magnus repaint. There was also a Universe repaint of 'bendy' Armada Prime as UM,

Plenty of Prime to Magnus love out there.
Cliffjumper has been sufficiently covered, I believe. I do like the toy though, even though red plastic toys typically have not been among my favorites. In fact, I think at this time, he is my favorite of the Concept paints, until Stealth BB comes out anyway. Sorry I went off on a Magnus/Prime thing there.
