What's that tall thing standing in Sam's bedroom?

In the shots of Sam's room there's a pair of silver pipes holding up a black thing that looks like a set of scuba tanks, or possibly a Ghostbusters proton pack. WTH is that thing? TIA!

Y'know, this is exactly how that whole "there's the ghost of a dead boy in Three Men and a Baby" thing got started
