What's wrong with my Blueray playback?

I've had my Blueray player(80Gig MGS PS3) for a while. I just got a Blueray disc for my B-Day today(Ironman). Popped it in, and the screens a little especially on the bottom portion, and is most often when there's alot of motion or color change. I tried Ironman on DVD and it was fine, other than being poorer picture quality. I thought it was the disc, so I exchanged it for the same one. While the picture was slightly better, it still looked off. So I'm assuming it's my PS3. I think there's a problem with the frame rate. Can anyone give me some help?

I think you missed out a critical adjective up there. But all I can suggest is looking at the PS3s settings. I know theres a few options for your output regarding stuff relating to HD which might be worth a look at. I couldn't be specific because I don't have an HDTV and so no Blu Ray. But I'd say that's the first place to start.

Be sure there are no firmware updates for the player part of your PS3.

How do I update it? Shouldn't it do that automatically?
Anyways, I got it to play without shaking by playing around with the settings.

Updating is kinda important.
Whiz over the the settings on the XMB, it should be the first option vertically, just says Update Firmware or something equally as obvious. Hit that and it should go about updating.
It wont update automatically, but you wont be able to sign in to PSN (and thus play online) without updating. Games have their own software updates which update when you try to play them (as long as you're online) but the actual system firmware isn't the same and has to be done manually.

Well, the update didn't work. But I did mess around with the Video settings and got it to work. I had to change this thing called Blueray 1080i 24Hz something. It was on Automatic, I turned it off and it stopped jitering.
Which is odd cause you think having it on Auto would give you the optimal picture.
