Which Transformer lines did Hasbro design, and which ones did Takara design?

Postby ZenithF0RTE » Tue Jun 05, 2007 2:10 pm

For instance, the Classics line and the TF Movie line: were these two lines designed by Hasbro? What about the Laser Rod G2 Line or the Beast wars/Beast Machines line?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! :)

For the ones i know,

R.I.D. was completely Takara minus a few moulds that were Hasbro only for US.

Armada was also mostly Takara

Beastwars, i believe was Hasbro in its entirety. Beastmachines, Beastwar neo, Beastwars II was takara. if i'm not mistaken

G1, was Part Microman (Takara) part original desings. and one part Bandai borrowed mould. (Jetfire)

Energon and Cybertron were also mostly Takara designs.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, everything after Cybertron is Hasbro's doing, as Takara stepped back from design while the merger with Tomy takes place.

So yes Classics and Movie line are all Hasbro.

I actually thought that Armada was one of the first lines to be both jointly hasbro and takara. But I don't know of that as there are so many variations between the Japanese Armada figures and the American ones

The variations were mostly paint apps rather than actual mold changes.

I think Overcracker has pretty much the right of it if not all the details. Wikipedia though claims Has/Tak to have collaberated on BW/BM.

I though Beast Wars was all Hasbro. While the sequel (you arer right) Beastmachines were collaboration effort between Takara and Hasbro. However, I'm pretty sure Beastwars Neo and 2 are takara only, as was R.I.D./Car Robots.

Anyway everything between G2 and Beastwars is also Takara going it solo right?

I am fairly certain that the only figure untouched by hasbro in the energon line was Wingsabre.

From what i understand of the design process during the time of energon, they would come up with a concept or alt mode, and send it to Takara. Takara would then try to take that alt mode and engineer it into a robot form.

Sometimes hasbro will make other requests, like in the case of Wingsabre. "Give us something that will combine with prime."

As this was the priority, takara had to make certain sacrifices with the mold design in order to accomodate what hasbro wanted (wingsaber's gimpy little arms and brickishness, but it combines with optimus prime!)

Hey, no knocking Wingsaber, love that guy brickiness and all.

But yeah, G1 was all Takara designs, first two years being made up of other lines repainted, after that some old stuff plus alot of new stuff which was again designed by Takara as far as I know.

G2 was mostly repaints with some new stuff which again I think was Takara designed.

BW was Kenner through Hasbro, though pretty sure Takara may have gotten involved around the third year, and then of course they continues with BM, BW2, and BW Neo.

Machine Wars was all G2 repaints which were Takara designed.

Car Robots was all Takara again, then a year later when Hasbro brought it over as RID they had added a few G2 repaints and a few US only designs I think.

Armada/Micron Legend was all Takara from what I understand, though of course Hasbro did design some paint schemes for repaints.

Energon started the thing where Hasbro came up with designs and Takara did scuplts, though of course both sides had a few exclusive molds/repaints.

Cybertron followed Energon's trend.

And of coures Alts/BTs were Takara for the first half, joint in the middle of the line, and the last few have been Hasbro only.

Titaniums, Classics, the Movie figures are all Hasbro only designs, though still produced in the same factories as all the Takara Hasbro stuff.
