With DOTM pending, which ROTF figs were good?

Weapon: Acid Spray Gun
DOTM on the horizon and I'm worried how I will feel when that's all we see in the stores. With the new movie figs coming I'm getting nervous that I am going to feel compelled to buy a lot of stuff that I will regret later.

I bought a bunch of ROTF figs that I thought were cool at the time but don't like to see on my shelf now. I think I'm not really a fan of what's called the "bayverse" style...angles, faces etc...but I did buy quite a few and really regret not just saving the money for the more pricey g1 goodness I want to get. I became addicted.

That being said, there are a few ROTF figs I really like, namely (Buster)Prime, HA Jazz (I know, not really ROTF), Ravage, Skywarp(I know), DeadEnd, dlx Sideswipe, Smokescreen.

I'm wondering in retrospect what everyone else thought was good stuff from the last movie line. Sorry if this has already been hashed out, but I'm new to the board and missed it, and with the new movie stuff coming I thought it would be appropriate.

I'm trying to figure out which 3 or 4 bots I'm going to get this summer.

All of the ROTF figures were good.

I own them all pretty much minus a few repaints.

IN regards to DOTM, I don't know. I'll tell you when I buy the crap out of them May 16th.

The NEST Decepticons -Lockdown, Bludgeon, Mindwipe and Skystalker- were by far my favorite figures. Gotta love all the nicely incorporated weaponry.

Wow, I saw one or two of those once or twice, and two of them I never saw in the stores.
Thanks.

I liked all the Human Alliance stuff (particularly Jazz).

Deluxe: Smokescreen, Lockdown & Axor, Ratchet, all the various iterations of Sideswipe, Swerve, Battle Blade Bumblebee, and Terradive.

Voyager: Battle Blade Optimus Prime and Banzai-Tron.

Scout: Hubcap, Breacher, and Scattorshot & Firetrap.

I became addicted.

I'm also an old school G1 fan; and not really digging the movie aesthetic. However, with a few exceptions, I have managed to resist buying movie figures. Those I have purchased are ones that I think fit with the "classic" style reasonably well:
  • Mindwipe and Skystalker
  • Sea Spray and Breacher
  • Lockdown and Axor
  • Bludgeon
  • Highbrow
  • Hailstorm
  • Terradive
  • Tomahawk
I also picked up NEST Brawn based on positive reviews, generally looking good in pictures, and an unusually low price on Amazon ($7 or so, IIRC). However, now that I have him in hand, I'm not all that impressed. I will probably part with him. Oh, I also have Hubcap. But I'm not especially impressed with him, either.

So those are the ones I thought were nice enough (and sufficiently not movieverse) that I thought they were worth getting. These are the ones I admired, yet were just too movieverse for me to appreciate properly:
  • Leader Optimus Prime
  • Leader Starscream
  • Human Alliance Jazz
  • Battle Blades Optimus Prime
  • Voyager Starscream
  • Battle Blade Bumblebee
  • Deluxe Sideways
  • Electrostatic Jolt

I'm trying to figure out which 3 or 4 bots I'm going to get this summer.

The only DOTM figure I find really interesting so far is Skyhammer. Leader Sentinel Prime looks like a nice figure; but probably falls into the category of being too movieverse for my liking. Also, as a Leader class figure, he's way out of scale with just about everything else I own. And the Voyager version just doesn't look nearly as impressive.

If you're having buyer's remorse about your ROTF purchases, strive to be more measured in your DOTM selections.

If you mean movieverse by RotF, i would recommend:

Leader:
Starscream (this is a must have!)

Voyagers:
Bludgeon (or Banzaitron)
Mindwipe
Recon Ironhide (i'm not hopeful on the dotm one, also this is better in scale)

Deluxes:
Brawn
Armorhide
Battle Blades Bumblebee

Scout:
Skystalker

i think those are cooler, easy on the eye (scalewise) figures. if you don't care for scale, look for deluxe decepticons like tomahawk and terradive (and some deluxe tank guy), too.

i'm not gonna buy any deluxes from dotm. Sentinel Prime, Skyhammer, may be Shockwave, and a leader Megatron will do for me. (if they decide to make one).

Leader Prime was good but Voyager Prime (the new mold with guns and blades) was superb. Probably the best of the line or even the movie toys in general.

HA Jazz and Bumblebee are great.

Sidearm Sideswipe is such a drastic improvement on the original deluxe.

These are the highlights of the line for me, but also worthy of not are Terradive and HA Barricade.

Figures that could have been great if they didn't have monkey arms: Battle Blades Bumblebee, Leader Starscream and Voyager Longhaul.

Weapon: Double Beam Guns
I didn't get many ROTF figures, but I did like quite a few.

Leader:
Optimus Prime (one of the best movie figures out there)
Starscream (GET HIM)
(Megatron was close, but for the alt mode.)

Human Alliance:
Jazz (best version of the character)

Voyager:
Mindwipe (cool interaction w/ Skystalker)
Bludgeon (sweet!)
BB Optimus Prime (not quite as good as the leader, but improves on some things)
(Once again, Megatron was close, just too green and too much kibble)

Deluxe:
Hailstorm (I call him Mindset :P )
Terradive (awesome)
BB Bumblebee (I personally don't mind monkey arms)
Sidearm Sideswipe (sleek, elegant and great weapons)

Scout:
Hubcap (awesome)
Breacher (bad-ass. Also unintentional waist-bending articulation FTW)
Skystalker (great alt mode & memorable robot mode)

Honorable mentions:
Sunspot: Not the best colors, but to me they're Mindwipe's "mini-cons" like Soundwave + cassetticons.

Highbrow: Almost a great figure, but I'm not a fan of the baby blue and his chunky legs/odd hands. Great alt mode though.

The Fallen: Plastic is a bit too brittle, weird alt mode, and no staff!

Human Alliance BB: Decent, but lack of a hand, small weapon, and kinda chunky nature turn me off to him. I liked him a lot more before BB BB came out.

Deluxe Ironhide: Chest on mine doesn't lock too well, articulation hindered by kibble, non-screen accurate weapons. Also he's a really small deluxe.

-Leader Starscream
-Deluxe Sideswipe
-Voyager Bludgeon
-Many HA figures
-Deluxe Brawn
-Deluxe Lockdown
-Voyager Mixmaster (aside from being even harder to transform than Leader Prime)

I'm sure there were other figures that I would say were good, but I can't think of very many of the figures right now.

Too many. Instead I'm gonna tell you which I am disappointed with:

Dunerunner and its various repaints. Alt mode is hard to get it to snap nicely.
The 3 bike sisters, for obvious reasons.
Sideways. Just a lil disappointed with the robot mode.
Insecticon. Weak robot and alt mode.
And for some reason dlx Ironhide. Just dont like it, prefer the Voyager ones.

Thats pretty much my idea of the ones for you to avoid.

I only have a few from the ROTF line and am pretty happy with them, mainly because I only bought the figs that I thought looked good or that I heard good things about. Lockdown is my fav. A little tip - the non-screen characters usually fit in better with other lines because they have more freedom with those figs.

No body bought the Activators? I bought two for my son and I think they are pretty good toys. These two are Bumblebee and Starscream. To be noted, Activators Starscream does not have monkey arms which put the leader class to shame.
