a deep question: Why do you collect ?

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

I collect because mainly I love Transformers and I love cars. Every single person needs a hobby right? I consider this my hobby as I go into a newer stage in my life. I'm only 23, but consider this a grown-up hobby, other than my other hobbies I had when I was younger. I can truly express who I am, and feel good about it. All the car molds drive me crazy. I've also grown a liking to construction vehicles. Don't have many jets, but hey, gotta have seekers in your collection. Yeah, its simple, car and stuff that transforms, what more could you want?

I collect...Because I love Transformers, I love Scifi & fantasy, I am a geek and nerd & free and proud to admit it. I've been collecting throughout my life and I love doing it, despite the shortage of space I have though I do have to know will stop collecting one day.

For now though as a Transformers is one of my hugest and deeply loved passions of mine I will collect...until I can collect no more.

My problem is that I am constantly on the move. I don't own many figures of my own besides a lot of old G1 stuff I have in storage. Now I just help my son with his collection. We are moving to Japan soon, so he's going to have to leave a lot behind....and restock in Japan.

Well, after 23 years of collecting, it's like I've come too far to stop, lol.

Besides, it makes me feel like I'm doing my part to keep the franchise alive for future generations to enjoy as much as I have.

I'm a fairly new Transformers collector. Bought my first figures shortly after RotF came out. But I have collected many other things over the years: Godzilla figures, MOTU, Dinosaurs, Rocky Balboa merchandise, Batman figures, and hats of my favorite sports teams just to name a few. Now that I think about it, I collect too much stuff.

Anyways, I've briefly thought about why I collect before, but quickly brushed the question off and went about my business. Now that I think about, I guess I really can't think of a true reason as to why. And that may be okay. But here are a few things that, I feel, may be the cause of my collecting habits...

-I never really grew up. Which is cool, because still being into the stuff when I was a kid is just a lot of fun.

-This coincides with the above a bit, but collecting helps me escape reality. It's a nice stress reliever from a bad day. Just come home and hop online looking for the figures I don't have.

-Also for the thrill of the hunt. It's really neat to hunt down something you really want and then when you actually have it-then you're off to hunt the next thing after two minutes.

-Probably to also fill some void/satisfaction that other things can't. What those voids may be, I have no idea.

Otherwise, I don't have a legit reason.

I collect to kick up a hobby and kill some of my free time. I also can admire the figures after I bought. And the search for a certain figure gives "excitement" in the looking for it..

Interesting. I never knew a girl's best friend could be TFs.

My reason? Probably a combination of OCD and genes. My dad collected stamps and coins. I could understand the used stamps which are a poor man's gallery, but coins and especially, first day commemorative stamps are just crazy. I wished he collected stocks instead.

I restarted collecting when my mother-in-law gave my son a Fast Action Battler Ratchet. The transformation on that toy highly impressed this trained mechanical engineer (yes, influenced by TFs). Did anyone perform a Black Friday '09 run? I hit Walmart, Target, TRUS, and Kmart. The lines were crazy but the deals were good.

Over the holidays, I went back to my parent's house to pick up my G1's. I was surprised to find Galvatron still functional after leaving the 9V battery in there all these years. However, I'm a bit sad. Nostalgia has hit reality. The G1's don't give me that transforming high like the ROTF. I've been thinking about ebaying my G1's and subsidizing my ROTF spends. I know, blasphemy!
