Motto: "Faith will crumble before the rage of philosophy."
Weapon: Ionic Displacer Rifle
If employees were more helpful, I'd have no problem waiting for someone. But, I see a case that has something I want inside, I open it. I don't have time to piss around waiting for an associate to do their job.

In my experience, most of these employees who are not helpful are either hoarding the stuff for themselves, or they are blocking until their scalper buddy gets there.

I know that retail employees have to put up with alot, but, frankly, when I am 90% sure they are going to cop an attitude, I don't bother.

I honestly don't care if I get an associate in trouble, and yes, I have worked retail. I used to care, I don't anymore. Most of the time it is their own fault anyway; they pull out a pallet and let it sit for 5 hrs, they have to expect a few people to be poking around. It's called life, deal with it. They'll get no sympathy from me.

And don't ever buy that crap that you can be removed from the store for opening a case that is out on the floor. I laughed heartily at the last guy that pulled that on me, then got him reprimanded after I complained to his boss. It's a lie, an empty threat; a way for someone with no power to flex what little muscle they have.

A store can only remove you if you are doing something illegal, or causing some major disturbance. Any store that would kick you out for trying to buy something should not be in business, period. As if it would be some major thing to be kicked out of Walmart, anyway...

As a formal Wal*Martian I found it rude. I used to work toys, then became the bike builder(best job there is in that h&ll hole). Anyway, we used to have this Hot Wheels collector that would just go through the pallet and take what he wanted and leave everything else thrown around.

I had his @ss escorted out of there!

If a kid came up to me, I would always help 'em. However, if it was a parent or someone and if they were rude in any way, shape, or form, I wouldn't do jack for them. i.e. when everyone wanted the f#ck me Elmo, I hated those parents. "I know you have more in the back" type of BS.

Now, if the pallet was low(not a falling hazard) and if someone wanted to go through a box, and if I was busy setting the planogram(modular), then I would say go for it. However, only if I was asked. if I saw someone just do on there own, I would make them stop and wait until everything else was out before I opened it.

Regardless is you think the employee hates his/her job, or even if the employee hates his/her job, there is no need to try to usurp the only thing they have control over.

Yup. I would carefully go through the box though and not make a mess of any sort. Apologize to the WM rep politely if they come by as well. That will usually get you out of any potential problem.

I guess it depends on your definition of morality, but I don't see this as a moral question, but just a question of ettiquette.

It's kind of like asking whether it's immoral to leave the toilet seet up?

Those kind of questions aren't questions of principle, but just questions of circumstance.

I don't really think it's immoral to open the cases, just rude.

I always ask an employee to open a case if I see something that I need. And I've never been turned down. I was actually thanked by one employee for asking, and not just tearing things up.

Agree & that's what I did too. These few weeks after countless runs to many nearby retail stores, I only saw 2 unopened "Hasbro" toys boxes from one of the Targets, so I asked the employee to get to those 2 boxes first, she gave me the white eye but proceeded to them anyway.... WAHHHHHH!!!! They were Risk board games & My Little Ponys. *Faint*

If nobody was looken and if they were i would either wait til they leave or just run over and knock over an isle of juice and yell CLEAN UP IN ISLE 4!! then i would yell the toy person's name and yell CLEAN IT UP!! then while he runs over to do it i get a hole pallet of deluxes to myself :P

Yeah that's annoying. I use to work merchandising and you would sometimes have to count stock once you open the boxes, so it's a bit annoying to have something missing, you arent sure if you were short shipped or not
