a question concerning the dynobots

Postby genozaur » Sat Sep 15, 2007 6:50 pm

people as i have heard over the past year or so there is no conenction continuity wise between dreamwave and idw transformer wise which brings me to my question

assuming that one were willing to neglect that fact would it be possible to use that flashback scene from idw's shockwave oneshot the one where it showed that flashback scene on cybetron conerning the dinobots leaving the battle field with that shipment of energon only to have it literally blow up in their face when shockwave detonated that energon stockpile whcih itsself was the event that lead to the dinobots having their falling out with optimus primes team.

would it be possible to use that flashback scene as a way to properly explain why grimlcok and his team struck out on their own in the time period between war with in vol 1 and the war with vol 2 the dark ages

that is to say would it be possible to use that out of continuity flashback scene as a way to retroactively resolve that dangling plot line element from dreamwaves war within continuity

me i figure that flashback scene could all to easily shoehorn into place.

what are your thoughts people?

I'm lazy, so I am quite happy to leave DW and IDW as completely separate continuities.

Less confusing, and IDW well planned out Furmanverse does not get tarnished by DW fanwank.

Uh...yeah....they're doing alot of what Dreamwave did. Soundwave uses the rubsign to indicate he's part of Megatron's faction in Megatron Origin #2. Everyone hated it when DW did it, but I'm guessing alot of people will let IDW slide on it. The Pre Earth alt forms are almost identical to the War Within Designs. And various other "fanwank" elements alot of the fan base seems to revile.

I'd rather have someone explain to me why they called themselves Dynobots instead of Dinobots. And why is it that their initial Earth forms look so Maximal-ish, but then when they got messed up they looked like their G1-selves. And was it the Vok or Shockwave that seeded Earth with the Energon crystals that were present in BW?

In all honesty, I like the way Dreamwave did things a lot better. Especially Omega Supreme

They'll probably be rebranded as Dinobots once they're brought back online in the IDW continuity. 'Dino' doesn't really make a lot of sense before they get their beastie forms. The Maximal look is a deliberate nod to Beast Wars and a convinient way to get them reformatted 'in story', nothing more really, and after getting blasted up pretty badly and spending millions of years buried you wouldn't really expect any organic material to have survived. The IDW take on G1 doesn't include Beast Wars or the Vok, so in IDW it's Shockwave and relates to the Ore-13 story arc, in BW it's the Vok. The IDW BW books tie in to the BW cartoons but not the IDW G1. The BW cartoons spin out of the G1 cartoons (to some extent) and the Marvel comics (again to some extent). Depending on who you listen to the Vok are an evolved version of the Matrix empowered Swarm from the G2 comics, so without G2 no Vok and no BW, hence no BW in IDWs G1.

It really is much simpler to just keep everything nice and seperate.

Was never bothered by the rubsign thing myself. Both times we've seen them, it wasn't really inappropriate.

And about the WW(ish) designs:
A: Who cares if they use them again, similar to whatever degree? They're good designs, and necessary to depict characters without relation to Earth.
B: How are they fanwank? These designs are from the pros.

In the DW War WIthin comics, Grimlock and his Dynobots didn't split off from the main forces until after Optimus Prime went missing and was presumed dead. The Autobot forces fractured into several teams, since they couldn't agree on who to follow.

and yet grimlock for some reason still had a serious personnel grudge with shockwave that to this day has never been fully explained in general to any suitable length.

by incorporating a version of that flashback scene into the dw mythos one could rather easily use that to serve as a suitable reason to explain that grimlock had such a lasting grudge with shockwave.

I never knew alot of people "hated" the rubsign idea. I've never read anything to really indicate that feeling at all. I sure as hell don't care on either one.

As for the pre-Earht designs, of course they are going to be similar, they are drawn (mostly) by the same guy, who had to put alot of work into creating them. They are good designs (that do not belong, or were thought of by DW).

The fan-wank I was referring to was more to do with Sunstorm.

As far as Grimlock having a grudge with Shockwave, in DW they hinted towards that in some degree, when Grimlock confronted Shockwave during the Dinobots invasion of Iacon. Grimlock said "I knew you would be here, just like last time" although Grimlock had not seen Shockwave for millions of years. That was the only direct interaction between Shockwave and Grimlock in the DW run. Plus, we also know that in DW, Grimlock was originally a Decepticon, and an original member of the Inner Circle Decepticon leadership caste (Megatron, Shockwave, Starscream, Soundwave, Grimlock). So perhaps part of this grudge stems from Grimlock's former Decepticon days.

In IDW, we know that Grimlock has a grudge specifically because of the aforementioned energon incident.

I think this can be explained away a lot easier as that they are both opposite ends of the spectrum.

Both powerhouses beyond measure but shockwave is cool calm and collective, which is something i secretly think grimlock envies, sure he may hide it behind a superior hatred of logic, but Grimlock is smart as well and i imagine it riles him a lot when shockwave doesnt rise to the bait where as this is something grimlock does...alot.

I know from personal experience being on both sides of an argument if i can stay as calm and smug as possible while causing someone else to loose it its satisfying, and on the same not when someone pulls the same trick on me and remains calm it causes me to hate them all the more.

I'd guess this was the basis and anything shockwave did to get one over on the dynobots citing logic as his weapon just added to the hatred

The reason why they're called Dynobots before they come to Earth is because at that point in time, they did not have Dinosaur modes. They were massive military hardware. Grimlock was a four-tracked charriot, Snarl, Slag, qand Sludge were some form of tanks, and Swoop was a jet. They changed their names to Dinobots after they came to Earth and were reformatted into their Dinosaur forms.

But they say it in the Shockwave Spotlight, on Earth, while they change from their Maximal-ish robot modes to their beast modes. I also don't get meaning of Dyno. What is that short for? Dynamic? Dynamite? I never read WWI, so...
