A Suggestion on where the movie line should go and how many sequels.......

Postby skywarp-2 » Wed Aug 15, 2007 6:37 pm

I was thinking on my Insanely long commute home that movies these days don't seem to have a real chance to become an after market, DVD sales boom, unless they are made into a Trilogy, or in some cases a 7 movie franchise like Harry potter, or 6 movie Franchise like Star Wars.. take for example, the Bourne Identity, the Bourne Ultimatum ect.. or the Rush Hour franchise which is hitting its 3rd incarnation..then also what about the Diehard franchises, and Terminator..

If transformers is to become a new franchise, and the movie studios want substantial return in the after theater markets, I. E. DVD sales, I then suggest the Transformers Movie Franchise be made into a similar long running Movie series..

What I am suggesting could be very much in line with how the movie franchises are going these days.. while simple movies of non fandoms like Rush hour will get 3 movies and a Trilogy box set, Transformers should have a 10 movie run...

ok, I know what your saying 10 movies!!!! are you crazy!! it's impossible!!!

Improbable yes, but certainly not impossible, considering the after market sales and trends twards DVD compilations and Trilogy Boxed Sets.. it's kind of a nobrainer!!

I would propose that with the Transformers Movie line and Franchise they do a 10 Movie run...

the first story Ark covers 3 movies and centers around the Allspark, the second Story Ark also covers 3 movies and centers around the rise of Rodimus prime, the death of Optimus prime (face it, he died in the 80s, why not have the movie echo G-1 even more then it already has...think about how huge Startrek 2 was because Spock died...), the final Story ark could center around the return of Optimus prime, the Matrix, a build up to unicron, and the last movie will be the grand ending with the destruction of unicron, and the Autobots and Decepticons rebuilding Cybertron with the war ended..

That to me would be a sweet deal!! effectively giving us Transformers in Live action and CGI for years to come, and at the same time the studios could be making it slowly more and more CGI and Robots then human over time will still keep the crowds inmass interseted and will keep the fans happy as well..

Well, that's just my opinion anyways..

I like the idea, but the idea of a ten movie Transformers franchise seems...out there. I'd much rather stick to something closer to 5 films if its going to go past three.

I am very scared to think if they make more than 3, its going to get really really old really really fast.

I pray they don't make more than three movies. I like knowing that a story is finished and over instead of guessing when it will end. IE: Spiderman

They killed the Spiderman movies with the third...its sad...

Tacking production and filming time into consideration, that would be about 50 years worth of movies.
(not that I’m complaining.)

You know what else had ten movies? Star Trek. And look how well that went!

Police Academy had seven, and it got worse each time.

The only series allowed to get away with it is Harry Potter, because A) It makes shitloads of money, B) It's an insanely popular family franchise (And getting less and less with each movie!) and C) It's an adaptation of a seven book franchise.

No, three movies is enough.

I said this in another thread--
The most movies I see this realistically going to is

4.

I don't think it needs to completely echo the past.
I just want to see the Dinobots, Constructicons, and 2-3 combiners.
Along with bringing in characters like
Soundwave
Shockwave
Thundercracker
Blitzwing
Astrotrain
Sidswipe
Blaster
Perceptor
Inferno

That's a pretty sweet core of characters that can be stretched through about 3 more movies
without being too repetitive,
and at the same time giving us more every time through the end.
What I'd personally like to see is
the 2nd movie introduce some but not too many new characters.
BUT right towards the end, throw in some more that obviously will also be in the 3rd.
In the 3rd movie, throw in even more characters,
but have about a handful from the 2nd get severely damaged and/or destroyed.
Then in the final one, have just a couple characters introduced (maybe one of these killed),
but bring in 2-3 combiners.
And NOT just at the end.
Everyone is going to want to see them in action and unite more than once.

While it's always possible to go beyond 4,
the 4th movie can always be left slightly open-ended...

i'm pretty convinced that Transformers will be made into a Trilogy. i dont want Transformers to stay past its welcome. The story lines could get really ridiculous if they go past 3. I have a feeling that if it goes past 3, that people are going to be saying things like, "oh my God. ANOTHER Transformers movie? When is it going to end?" i think that it should stay at a trilogy, and if they want to do other stories that spinoff from the movie..they should do a cgi made for tv series.(I.E. Stargate SG-1) a GOOD one. as much as i do love the movie and i cant wait for the sequels...i just dont want it to get ridiculously long.

yes Star trek had no actual book line thatg the movies followed.. and Police Academy is totally a low budget funny movie franchise that went on way too long..

Harry potter had a successful book before the movie was done, and there were and still are quality actors in that series, not to mention the big budget effects.. and the fandoms...

In a way Transformers G-1 is the "Books" that can be followed, and were built apon in the unicron trilogy.. Armada had the coming of Unicron, the death of Optimus and rebirth, the whole megatron to galvatron thing.. and countless other references, not to mention the energon series and the star saber copies, ect... ect..

all I'm saying is if Harry Potter can do it in 7 why not Transformers in 10..??

besides if they get old in the theaters, its okay.. its in the DVD market where it strives dfor years to come...especially with Blue ray, and HD coming out..

As long as they stick to the G-1 formula, have good actors, and great CGI with epic battles, the series could possibly survive to 10 movies.. 5 would be fine, but I say go the long haul and do 10..!!

Since the human characters dont really matter in the long run, there can be as many Transformers movies as they want if you really think about it. CGI characters never grow old.

Direct to DVD is where movie franchises go to Die. The Pokemon movies, for example.

And no, 10 is way too much.

I agree...

and now on to shadowman..... I wasn't saying they should go directly to DVD, but over time the DVD compilation would hold and command a good price!! besides I'm not saying do 10 one right after another.... they could sit on it for awhile... release 3 for a story ark, then come back a few years later do another 3.. then another 3 down the road.. then the last a final big ass Battle.. it's a slow way to gain a huge cult following, and larger then what we already have.. besides, I really want them to make the most of time that Peter Cullen and Frank Welker have on this earth!!

imagine the CGI every 5 years gettting better and better..it could be the greatest Movie frnachise ever known!! and 10 SUCCESSFUL movies would place it above every other franchise!!

I'd say, no more than three movies.
I really doubt that if they go past TF3 that the movies are going to be any good at all.
Sequels are notorious for sucking.

But if they could make well done original movies they could go to TF10 for all I care.

Now thats the spirit, do each sequel as great as the rest, or treat it like a totally new movie all together.. that's another reason i say do it in Story arcs, so that the story has a beginning, Middle, and end... 10 movies would actually have one giant story arc stretched out over time, with a little here and there dropped in to each sequel and trilogy story arc until the final huge battle at the 10th movie which wraps the whole series and franchise up for good!!

The problem is that, by ten movies, people are saying "GOD, another one?!" Much in the same way a lot of people here sai the same thing about Harry Potter.

How many franchises DON'T get stale after a Trilogy? Star Wars got the Prequels, Rocky got worse and worse, Police Academy got worse and worse, Jaws should never have gone past 1.

Even Batman and Superman, the World's Finest, couldn't live past a fourth movie. Batman got a reboot a few years later, and Superman didn't get Superman Returns (A continuation of Superman II) for 20+ years, and even THAT wasn't very good.

And Star Trek, one of the two biggest Sci Fi franchises ever (The other being, of course, Star Wars) couldn't take ten movies.

What I'm saying is that it's extremely difficult, if not impossible, for a franchise to stay fresh that long. Star Trek, Star Wars, Batman and Superman were all adaptations like Transformers, and they all suffered greatly for overstaying their welcome.

Yeah, I love the TF's but I really just want it to go to TF3 and still be good.
If there were ten I'd watch 'em all, but the majority would be everyone just wanting it to be done with.
