My girlfriend loves my transformers collection. So what if she is 11. Her mom says it is ok.

Can't say I've ever watched the show, so I'm not really offended by it. Sure I'm a collector, but that doesn't mean I'm down with the little girls.

Maybe he had the collection in compromising situations. Like Masterpiece Prime and Magnus pigroasting a Bratz doll. :???:

Anyhow... On the main topic of this thread, I don't watch the show, and apparentl I made the right decision. I don't agree with the call for baseball bats and barbed wire, though, a single dope-smack upside the back of the head would get the message across.

I somehow forgot to mention that the guy with the TF collection was not guilty of the crime they accused him of. Which made me think, "Oh great, the guys getting the 3rd degree from cops on the evidence that he collects toys."

This would NEVER fly if they had found a stack of bibles in the guys house. "We found your bibles, and we know what bible readers like to do to little boys."

I haven't seen the episode, but I do have a question. What did the accused pedophile look like/act like? Mainly, I want to know if they used any stereotypes that the general public has about those of us who enjoy our hobby. :???:

Now here's one for you all:

Obviously, I collect TFs. Up to the end of last year, I worked in an elementary school after school program. I now intern for a non-profit group called "Advocates for Children," which fights against child abuse and people like pedophiles.

This is why this comment offended me so much. I mean, looking at my background, does making me collect TFs a suspect of abusing the children that I've worked with and for? Obviously not, but you get my point.

Thanks for understanding. I know it's only a TV show, but so many people use TV, even the parts just meant for entertainment, as their source of information nowadays. I also forgot to mention in my above post that I work with Scouts as well. Hopefully, this'll be one of those things that just dies away with one show and won't become a joke across various outlets.

The over-reaction here pretty much proves the show's point. Adults can handle criticism, whether incorrect, implied or otherwise. Trying to be the new victim group seems to be the popular sport of our modern culture.

Incidentally, there is a strong statistical correlation between pedophilia and Star Wars collecting, though of course correlation does not equate with causation &c.

qft. i haven't been this offended in... hell, i can't even remember the last time i got offended, it's that rare. it's especially offensive to me, as a collector who's majoring in elementary education and planning to be a teacher. i've never been interested in this show, but my parents watch it from time to time. i'll be sure to inform them to stop doing so.
