The way I read it, it seems more like she's attracted to his persistence, his devout refusal to learn and his determination to strive towards his lifelong dream, no matter how out-of-reach it may be or how many times he misses it. Every time he falters, he gets right back up and tries again. "If at first you don't succeed..." and all.
