Any young collectors here?

Postby DvDqNoC » Mon Jul 30, 2007 11:48 pm

Well I am young, and i was wondering if there were any others like me here.

Basically I went to walmart with my mom, and i put my deluxe Barricade in the cart. My mom asked how old I was, and told me im too old to be playing with toys. I explaned to her that this would be my only one.

A few days alter we were at Sam's, and low and behold, the 3pack (jazz, brawl, bcrusher) was there for 25.00, and i stuck that in the cart as well. My mom was reluctant, but at the end we bought it.

Thats where I stand right now, at 35.00 worth of movie toys. Im planning to buy hopefully 2 voyagers in the near future, 08 BB, and if it just so happens, leader prime. That would be over 100.00 of Transformers movie toys...

But thats not the biggest problem here. My mom is going to notice my collection becoming bigger. Even if i buy things with my own money, a lot of times my mom doesnt let me if she deems it unnecessary.

But the toys are so cool! The transformation is fun for me, and i really enjoy them. Maybe I should just migrate my collection into my closet... and become the Phantom of the Masked Transformer Collector.

Anyways, anyone else in my shoes? Any suggestions? Tips? Comments? Anything is appreciated, Thanks

Im 20. Dont know how old you are, but I grew up with G1 reruns on tv and handed down G1 toys and my own G2 toys. I love it. I just wish I kept into it though. My parents think its funny I'm back into them, but they don't care as long as I pay for what I want.

I'm 18. Does that count?

No one laughs at me cuz I'm a religion student at university (no hope for me anyway), and my Dad is actually quite supportive. He loved the movie and is considering collecting the decepticons.

pffft.... my mom says alot of things about me. "I didn't raise you to be a WIERD child!!!" : (

She doesn't like the idea of me buying toys for more than 20 dollars. XD Course she doesn't like me buying TOYS at all in the first place. But I told her this is more than just TOYS, they are my collection. And thats more than a KID could ever be responsible for. Even if I do play with them every once in a while. hehe. My dad and I collect/ed knives (he specialized in pens more tho), so I guess this is better than knives. 0_o

heh, and you know, at first she thought me wanting toys was kinda "cute", but now she prolly thinks it's an annoyance, since I had to borrow 80 dollars from her to buy the Megatron MP. :P

Im 18 yrs old and buying Transformer toys. I mad dog the kids in the aisles over at the stores. XD

But my love for 'em has finally infected my dad, so now he wants some too. : ) And he was a teenager back when JFK was still alive.

It's just my mom who I need to either convert or hide from. INFACT, I've bought over 3 toys without her knowledge. Because she actually gave me money to buy food with, but I used it for Transformers instead.

hey, it's always nice to see the young generation become avid TF collectors. like i said in another thread, TF transcends all barriers, even age. you can be as young as a 4-year old or as old as 80 and as long as you have the desire (and the cash :P ), you can always add more to your collection.

heck, i got my first TF (a grimlock, i believe) when i was still in kindergarten. sadly, it didn't quite last long in my possession; i lost it sometime later.

hmmm...i hate to say this but unless you're joking, that's not a good way to acquire TFs. gotta learn to be honest. 8)

Well the first time I saw Transformers... was in Armada, I am 13... so yes very young teenager. I have become a average Transformer fan basically because of the movie, and feel that the Unleashed Movie Line is great a long with the toys. So yes not really a toy player... but more of a sculpture collector.

So yeh I guess you could say I am young...

hey, it's not like i stole from her. That was my lunch money for school. So any 'dishonesty' i did was to myself. "Im not hungry. Im not hungry. Im not-" *falls in the gutter*

I'd rather save my money than use it for useless things like "food". :P lol. And because of it, I've actually learned how to make food at home instead of buying it!!

Well, I'm 14 right now, so that would make me a young teen :D , & I started my Transformers knowledge with Beasties (Beast Wars's name in Canada) at the age of 6, but then it sort of sparked out for a couple years, then around 2002, I returned to my TF liking.

I collect Transformers with no problem from my mom... well, except one time my mom told me people would think I was crazy collecting Transformers, but I told her there are older people collecting Transformers, so there.

You are lucky. I've got about 30 total, mostly the ones I had as a kid. I wish I kept an interest in them...but oh well. I'm back now 8)

i was really big on toys, comics, star wars, sci fi, and all that good stuff for pretty much my whole life.... but when i reached junior year in high school, i suddenly stopped. i mean, i was still into star wars, sci fi, giant robots, movies, cartoons, etc.... its just that i stopped buying all the toys and merchandise. but recently with the TF movies release and all, i sorta got back into it. i just barely turned 19 like 4 days ago, and so far most of my birthday money has gone back into buying toys :? . so much for saving for expenses for college this school year.

I can assure you that once A\ Your older and B\ your collection gets BIG people will either stop noticing or be supportive.

I am 23, and it totally bugs my family, and my girlfriend sometimes when I buy **** i really cant afford-but that is kinda understandable.

Although all in all I gotta say my folks are pretty damn supportive, my mom bought me transformers tattoos for my 22 birthday!

Anywho since you are starting I have one major piece of advice, dont ever let ur collection become more important than being with your mates-It is the end if u ever get to the point where u would prefer to buy a toy then go out clubbing (or whatever) with ur friends adn future girlfriends. Thats what turns a person from someone with a hobby into a geek.

Apart from that, glad to have u in the fandom!

I'm thirteen years old, and I really don't get much income, so I usually have to save up from my allowance or doing things like mowing lawns and **** if I went to get something expensive. However, the real pain is getting my mom to order stuff for me online, since I don't have a credit card, because I can't really get much down here in crappy Tarpon. Even then, there is no way I'd ever be able to afford any Masterpiece stuff, no matter how much I want that damn Convoy. (Ooh, but I might just be able to get it when my birth day comes around...)

As for my friends and family, my mom is not really that involved with my hobbies, but my grandparents along with my friends don't mind and usually are supportive.

Recently I started collecting Transformers again as a side-effect of over-hyping the movie (which I loved). When I was around four or five, I had a few Beast Wars toys, and some of these managed to survive past my early childhood. However, when I was eleven, I gave away all of my transformers. They were mostly in poor condition, comprised mainly of Armada and Energon, though Alternators Smokescreen shined through. I miss that one --- however, Ricochet sort of makes up for it.

Im 15 years old.
When i was like 5-6 i saw The ultimate doom part 1-3 on vhs.
When i was like 10-11 i got the MTMTE 1-3 on tape, later i bought The Ultimate Doom 1-3.

But my Transformers Interest startet when Energon aired on Cartoon Network ( No armada here! ), so i love the energon saga, maybe as much as G1.

Today im a collecter with 212 figures in ma collection an all the G1 episodes except for the Animated movie ... pft ... :-P

My farther is against my hobby, but i dont care about that, its my hobby, and my money, and i love it !!!

17 years right now.

Mom and dad don't really like my habit. Dad complains about the fact that I have lots of plastic (Let's see about 70 TF's, about 30 Gundam related (some of em broken and lots of 1 centimeter PVC stuff), and 20 other things) but he doesn't complain about the fact that my brother has 500 (Seriously, about 500) manga graphic novels. Mom doesn't really like it too (Especialy since I have a PVC statue of a girl in a rather sexy costume). But I'm happy they still support it, even if they don't like it (Mom got me some very nice Gundam kits and a MP Starscream for me last year when she was in Hong-Kong). Brother is also cool with it (I ask him to order TF's and other stuff for me online and he does it.).

Oh yeah food money. Who needs food when you can buy TF's? I starve myself at school and when I am home I eat.

I happen to get some good allowance and money from relatives. :P I'm gonna find a job soon.

It's noone elses business what you spend money on. I'm sure your mom collects some crap, so she can say nothing.

eg My mom 'collects' handbags and crappy NAO/LADRO statues. So she cannot comment on my collection, which stands currently at 87 figures.

You buy what makes you happy. Nobody can stop you from wanting to be happy, so noone can stop you from buying transformers. If you want it, she can't stop you from having it.

I'm 17, btw.

you guys in your teens who feel pressured that you are 'too old' to buy toys you should ignore the family/peer pressure. I went through the same thing when i was about 14 when G1 first came out, i sneaked a few TF in the house and was ridiculed by my family. Now had i bought a load of them (with what income i had at the time)and kept them with boxes etc (I WAS too old to smash em up and 'play' with them)I could have had a nice little selection of valuable items which i love anyway. I even remember reissue gen 1 european classics in 1991, i bought jazz but so wanted the rest but even at 20 years i wasnt sure how wise i was spending say $100 equivalent on the toys i wanted, I really wish i had as those first reissues are now highly sought after. Trust me, if you feel awkward about having toys you will get over the fact and like us oldies you will feel quite happy and not at all embarrased about having toys.

cool, your dad collects megos, you should ask him if he remembers/had 'micronauts' (made by mego) as a kid/teen as that line (called microman in japan) was where gen 1 megatron, cassettes, soundwave, perceptor and many of the minibots originally came from!

I'm 16, and on top of that I'm a girl.

My parents still think I'm weird and they laughed hysterically when we went to TRU to buy some TFs. I felt embarrassed hahah

But I can understand why they think I'm...special. I should actually be focusing on college and stuff because I'm going to be a senior this year.

I started collecting Star Wars Legos, then Spider-man, SW action figures, and right now Transformers :)

For me being 16, it kinda sucks when pretty much no one in your own age group as well as pretty much the whole community isn't into the hobby I am in. I used to be embarrassed a couple times last month when I was buying the movie toys, but then I realized if no one else is interested in Transformers, heck that just leaves me with a crapload more of variety. The sad thing is that i'm kind of competing with little kids in trying to get Transformers. Lucky for me all those little kids want are Bumblebees and Optimus Primes.

I'm just glad that there's others my age still into the hobby, and i'm also glad I was brought up with my cousin who's the same age. We're probably the biggest Transformers freaks in our city.
