Armada >>>>>>>>>> Energon.

Motto: "scream drive faster"
Weapon: Electro-Laser Cannon
I've watched 33 episodes of Energon. I watched a handful when I was a kid. I want to stab myself for renewing my lack of knowledge about Transformers: Energon.

Back when i was a kid I was totally hooked into Armada. Mini-Cons. Optimus Prime. Blurr. Powerlinking. More Mini-cons. Mini-cons. Miniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiconnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnns. Hasbro's marketing worked. I wanted more Mini-cons. Regardless of how other people thought of the cartoon series, I watched it because I wanted to see the Mini-cons. And what did I get? Some of the best TF episodes in the form of the Unicron battles.

Fast forward a couple months. Transformers Energon. Gimick is in the name. No Blurr... WTF? Mini-cons are there.. but the Star Saber is now referred to as the Energon Saber. The most powerful sword in the universe a decade ago is now some useless piece of crap that's used by some Super Saiyan imitation of a kid. Don't get me wrong, Kicker's pretty freaking awesome. In fact I like him alot better than A/R/C because he doesn't have an annoying voice as Carlos. And there's only one of him.

However, there are a multitude of reasons why Energon seems to be really lackluster compared to Armada.

-Snow Cat;
His yodeling makes no sense at all. It's also 'drive me up the wall crazy'. And why the heck does he need Skis in space? What in the world is going on?
-Mirage;
Previously Tidalwave. However he repeats Mirage over and over again alot frequently than Tidalwave. Annoying.
-Unicron;
The Death bringer is now a load of junk. It just doesn't really feel good when they're spreading the Unicron sweepstakes from the first dozen episodes till the end.
-Scorponok;
Side changing is retarded. It's also pretty dumb when you do it 4 times.
-Humans;
Are there like 10 people on Earth now? Seriously, what the hell happened to the population?
-Ironhide;
More annoying than Armada Hot Shot
-Inferno;
Since when could Megatron alter a loyal Autobot into a Decepticon by stabbing him?
-Cliffjumper;
I understand why he's not named Wheeljack because there was a previous Wheeljack in the Armada series. However, why the heck does he look exactly like G1 Wheeljack? Wouldn't it be nice to atleast make him coloured into something else?

The only thing enjoyable about Energon is Shockwave, who has the same VA as Armada Blurr and is pretty kickass as a Rogue.

So, anyone want to suggest I watch the last 17 episodes of TF: Energon? Or shall I renew my knowledge on TF: Cybertron and avoid this annoying crap.

Cheers,
Blurrz

Wow you managed so much of that show? I didn't even manage to get past the first 10 minutes of the first epesode, a shame cos I liked the comic.
The Wheeljack lookalikes name is Downshift, the cartoon just mixed up his name with the real Energon Cliffjumper.
And he was called Wheeljack in Japan that's why he has G1 Wheeljack's colours..

Ah, that makes alot of sense, seeing as Armada Wheeljack was called Rampage back in Armada.

And it's not "Shockwave", it's "Shockblast". Hasbro lost the name "Shockwave" at the time.

Most of Energon's flaws were due to some terrible dubbing. From what I hear, Superlink (while till not a great series) is more bearable than Energon and makes more sense.

I'm alone on this, I think, but I personally like Super Link the best out of the Unicron "trilogy."

Armada was and is awesome.
Energon? Not bad. I still got up at five in the morning to watch it. :grin:

It had stupid bits, I looked past them for the good parts.

Cybertron?
Yuck... I mean it had funny/entertaining bits too, but it just didn't match up.

And what really pissed me off was the complete ditching of 2D animation Transformers...
I mean I was so ticked when I first saw that all the Transformers in Energon were just cell-shaded 3D characters.

There were a couple rare 2D scenes in Energon, (which I practically DROOLED over) but not enough.

Cybertron threw out the 2D TFs completely.

I liked some of the Armada episodes, and I loved the comics. I never saw any of the Energon series, and I stopped reading the comics after a few issues. It just wasn't up to par with Armada, though it was supposed to be a direct contnuation, right?

Yeah, Energon was a direct sequel to Armada.
But I never read the comics so I'm not sure how well they did with it.

Yeah, Energon was a direct sequel to Armada.
But I never read the comics so I'm not sure how well they did with it.

Not well, IMO. The end of Armada promised a return for Unicron and a higher quality story, but as soon as I saw Optimus Prime (later named Megazord Prime) I immediately had doubts. No surprise, 3 issues into it, the story became convoluted and completely disconnected from Armada, so i stopped reading. Perhaps there were good issues, but I never cared to find out.

Armada issues 14-18, World Collide, kicked ass. They took me right back to the later issues of G1. So sweet.

I think the energon issues where awesome. But I don't know how much they went away from Armada as I haven't read everything from that.

I thought Energon was a big step down, the 4-5 issues right after Armada. 'Tis why I stopped reading.

I thought they were a really good read, of course they can't be as big and epic as Worlds collide as that was the final arc of Armada and was meant to end Armada with a big bang.
But I really liked Scorponok in the Energon comic, how he offed Starscream and just the way he went about things and I just love his line of "How much more do I have to kill till I kill something you care for?" was pretty badass the only reason I stopped reading was due to the comic dealer I got mine from decided to stop ordering them during Megatron Month.

I agree with all of your complaints. Snow Cat and Tidal Wave were absolutely infuriating. I missed a whole bunch of episodes out of sheer apathy and dont remember too much of Mirage being in it, but somethign else that pissed the hell out of me was when Roadblock shows up and Kicker knows he was Inferno and Roadblock announces that he's "Reformatted and back on line as Roadblock." Well, wouldn't he just be Roadblock then, and not a reformated Inferno? Why would he have drawn attention to his former self? I just didnt get this series at all.

That actually sounds interesting, Scorponok was one of my favorite Decepticons from G1 comics. I might have to get the TPBs if they came out...

Want to buy my complete Energon series? I even have an Armada #7 Pat Lee Dealer Incentive Variant cover. :grin:

...But you can't have my Armada #1 exclusive Holofoil cover.

I have all of my TF comics at the base of my bed right now because I ran out of cash and got desperate. The Armada series just got sold for a figure so obscenely low I wont even mention. I didn't have time to doe the E-bay thing and I've tried selling comics on Craigs List and nobody is buying.

I agree with you guys that the last few books in the Armada series were great. I wish the cartoon had taken more that course and I love the way Hotshot headed up a "payback" squad to deal with Megatron on Smokescreens behalf. Perforrated the big,bad nasty.
Made me laugh after having re-read that issue and then thought about the people complaining about the new movies Autobots being cold-blooded. They weren't the first cold-blooded Autobots. :P
