You can't blame gun laws for every time something like this happens.
If you don't give people the tools to kill (especially since they're built for that purpose) then at least you can cut down the fatality rate. It's easier for police to stop a guy with a knife than with a gun.
Making it harder for people to get guns legally only makes it harder for people to get guns legally. It does nothing to stop people who would get them illegally from getting them illegally. Thus, in the end, all you're doing is making it harder for people to protect themselves from bad people.
And PLEASE understand this is NOT an argument FOR guns. I've never shot a gun. I hate them. I think they're horrible tools. But I'm not going to throw out logic because of it.

In Japan, you cannot buy guns. If there's ever an incident of a gun being fired it's either because the police had to shoot someone or it was Yakuza related.
Yes, but in a society that, unfortunately (and when I say that I mean it like... I don't believe the 2nd amendment gives us the right to have guns, as a for instance), has guns all over the place to begin with, you can now not take them away. to take them away from people only means that the people who would them legally can't get them. the people who would do bad things with them still can get them, because such a rule does not effect the way they get those weapons.

Yeah it's too bad that things are like that, and you're more than likely right that for the people who just "collect" them it wouldn't be fair. But still, don't guns just belong in a museum? We don't really need them.
