okay, the battery test.

pressed button : honk*honk

took out the left battery (op's left, in truck mode) no *honk*honk* anymore.

put left battery back
pressed button: honk*honk

took out the right battery .. no honk honk :(

so both battery's are needed for honk*honk and automorph light and sound show..

actually.. the cap for the battery feels like it's going to break when you try to get it off.. though the notches that connect it to prime are quite firm.. so they can have some force.

the paint app. is BAD on prime.. the top of my smokestacks (before they become rubbery) is still red while the metallic paint (which doesn't match with the gray plastic) covers part of my cab so..I'm getting a bit of a mixed feeling now.. also the part that becomes his lower arm is clearly made out of a different type of plastic or covered in a non-metallic paint because there's quite a lot of color variation in truck mode.. which is emphasized even more when unpainted parts of gray show up as a dividing line between the various colors..

I hate Autobreak. It's just another example of how a useless gimmick can ruin otherwise good figures. I'd much rather manually move panels around on my Ironhide's leg (which I have to anyway because pushing on the foot to get it to turn back into the bed doesn't always work) it it mean there'd be an ankle joint. Blackout's chopper mode looks awful because of the middle of the nose pointing up and the body not closing properly. And classic Camaro Bumblebee's springloaded nose has given a lot of us hell.

hey, thanks for taking the time to do that and clearing that one up. i haven't gotten to the idea of opening up the battery packs on my prime yet (i guess i'm just too lazy to hahaha...) 8)

yeah, i noticed that too. i especially didn't like the way the smokestacks are handled...why couldn't they have done it with grey plastic instead eh?

but generally (though we are getting a wee bit off topic here) the paint apps for the movie figs SUCK big time. it looks to me that they rushed painting the figs so that they can put it out on the market quickly. have you guys noticed that starting with Classics, hasbro's painting became less consistent?

uhm,.. don't ya mean automorph? true.dat on ironhide though, kinda like 08 BB, they sacrificed ankle movement for automorph tech.

QFT. Automorph isn't strictly necessary, but speeds up some of the more complx transformation, allows a few details that'd br hard to do manuallly... But most of all, it;s really rather cool, and a nice change from mini-cons and cyber keys.

Before tonight I had thought that automorph wasn't bad at all, what with my cool LC Prime and my truly awesome 08 BB, and even forgiving weak attempts like my Ratchet and Jazz. But that changed when I got my hands on Blackout this evening. I hate that mess. :-x

question: what's the real deal about blackout's automorph? it seems that among the movie toys he seems to have the most problems, aside from classic BB.

i'd like to know because he hasn't come out in the market here yet - i might consider adding him to the collection but i'll change my mind if there's something horrible with his automorph. some thoughts, guys? :-?

He's a pain in the ass is what it is. Sure would have been better to just do it yourself and scrap the automorph. I had to do the "fix" right out of the package because his gears weren't right. And even now, the gears slip sometimes and the head doesn't always work right in vehicle mode. And then when he's in robot mode, this stupid black roof piece snaps in on each side behind his head, and it feels like it's going to break each time you get him back to helicopter mode because you basically have to pry it out.

The figure itself is pretty cool. I have him standing in a crouch with one leg out to the side and his arms spread and his rotors being held in one hand. He's menacing looking, but just crappy in execution.

No offence, but you've also climed (constantly) that you hate all the movie designes and will never buy any of them... What happened there?

I didn't buy Blackout, my friend let me transform/pose him at his place. As for Ironhide and Bumblebee, those two are characters in my 'Bad Mother Truckers' universe. There is a criminal organization which consists of yellow, deluxe-sized cars. I only had Classics Bumblebee and Energon Hot Shot. Wanting to have at least one more member, I reluctantly bought the classic Camaro figure. Ironhide comes in later as Peter Built's [Classics Prime's] old war buddy, and in a flashback to the Organo-Mechanical Wars, we see his beast form (BW Ironhide). That's why I bought them. They're fun, but I'm not crazy about these movie figures.

I'd say lose the batteries and lighting effects.

Batteries are prone to leakage sooner than you think. And that will terribly ruin your Transformer.

Lights and sounds are kids stuff. Should have been put on FAB or other merchandise for kids. A $39.99 action figure with automorph and complicated transformations are definitely NOT for kids.

I don't like lights and sounds, either, but they are appropriate in some cases, mainly the MP figures. The light-up Matrix in MP Convoy blew me away! And I understand that Megatron has something similar, a red LED in the Fusion Cannon, I think...

Still, that only requires a small battery a little bit of electronics that don't get in the way, but losing most of the chest for automorph, lights, and sounds (on Leader prime) doesn't seem to be worth it.
