ok everyone. ive really been slacking. im going to update this thread whenever theres something worthwhile, and im in no way complete. i still have some figures to get and a permanent display to set up, but in the mean time y'all can join me on the journey

the goal:
- i plan to have every rendition of BW dinobot, character-wise, and mold mates to those figures. so every original dinobot figure, and remold/repaints of those figures, two of each (one MISB, one loose displayed).
- this includes packaging variations (within reason).
- plus, whatever cool dinobot related knick-knacks along the way.

ill put up a master list eventually, but i dont have it on hand at the moment. on to the pics!
*note: this isnt everything either, just the MISB stuff*

starting things off with a bang, my proto-type! after a lot of research, im quite confident it is a proto for the original dinobot, and not a subsequent repaints or reissues. with him, are the original twosome: rock and smooth bubbled dinobots. the white fella is BW's grimlock. then theres BM dinobots dinotron, and finally (armada subline - universe dinobots?) grimlock and terranotron.

next up is classics/universe dinobot, followed by three TM2 dinobots (white, cream "2", and cream "II") and a couple BM dinobots rapticons.

and the last pic is a slew of japanese fellas. on top is some silly chibi style dinobots, and a kabaya. (trying my best to go left to right) a pair of henkei dinobots, neo hardhead, metals dinobot, thrustor, the takara "accurate" repaint, telemocha, sharp edge VS hardhead, dinobot VS tarans. the epmties on the end is a second thrustor and third henkei.

Wow, you have a ton of Deenos. Cool to see all the variants in one place, and I'm still trying to get over that proto.

You do know that opening the Transmetal figures can damage them. They are prone to flaking. My TM2 Dinobot is almost devoid of his metal paint after all these years. My Rapticon which was never opened is fine though.

and to set cobs straight, i believe he means my collection in its entirity. which is 99% loose already, but in boxes and not displayed

y'know what im having hard time getting (for a decent price)? fox kids dinobot. seriously why is the general asking price 50 plus? is there some strsnge demand for that ugly orange striped weirdo? but i digress...

Here's a Dinobot in a baggie!

I'm told this is a "Production Sample" and that the seller is legitimate (by Seibs himself). So in a sense, it's a prototype. Since I have an actual prototype it's not all that exciting, but hey, it's another piece for the Shrine! (and I didn't pay much for it)

Prototypes are awesome. The prototype for RID2001 Megatron was on eBay not too long ago, but as much as I adore that mold, I'm not about to drop £300 on it.

Ahh. And that was actually my biggest worry when I bought my prototypes. Are they proto's of the original release, or subsequent releases? I don't remember (I did the research a long time ago) but I'm pretty sure my black/clear one is from the first release. And I'm confident that my TM2 Dinobot is original too because he was being sold in tandem with a TM2 Cheetor, also in solid red, and Rapticon (only other release of the mold) wasn't released with a Cheetor figure (he was released with a TM Terrorsaur repaint).

Not that it really matters, it's exciting to have the proto-types regardless of their release and I'd buy any versions I see. There is one I saw once that I may regret not getting for the rest of my life. There was an action years ago for the hand painted prototype of the first Dinobot (as seen on the back of the Wave 1 cards) but passed on it due to price. If I recall it was graded, and commanded just that much more money because of it. That, and not buying a Lucky Draw Green Unicron are probably my two biggest collecting regrets.

That's a really nice collection of Dinobots you have there! Being right across the river from Cincinnati I'm surprised I don't see more BW prototypes around. Come to think of it, I haven't seen any at flea market booths or comic stores that normally get those kind of weird pieces in from ex-Kenner employees. :-?

There are two prototypes I regret not purchasing. Both were affordable, but I wasn't collecting prototypes at the time. They are the 10th anniv. dinobot prototype which is gray and blue, then the armada predacon prototype that is brown, white and yellow.

For the sample dinobot you recently purchased on ebay, do you notice any differences from the production version?
