Best underling in fiction?

Postby Jacoiros » Sat Apr 05, 2008 2:44 pm

Who do you think can be considered the most loyal/trustworthy/dependable subordinate of an organization/person/..?

Basically, people who support their superior at the expense of their own life. They should also be worthy enough in the sense that their boss knows and trusts their ability to complete his orders i.e. are also very skilled.

Personally I would give:

Dick Grayson from DC I mean he's not completely loyal in all respects but he's been helping Batman in one way or another for 60 years of publication. He's become very skilled in his own right, and is one of the few people that Bats trusts.

Lurk from the Slayer Series is funny as he's totally and utterly loyal to Thanquols face and whenever he's not around he laments about how much his job sucks and just how much he loathes his boss and would love to kill him.

Jeeves the Butler from the series Jeeves and Wooster. I'm completely serious, that man is god. The entire series consists of a idiotic english gentleman who's constantly getting into trouble and his genius butler extracting him from it in the most hilarious ways.

Ishamael/Moridin from The Wheel of Time seems like a pretty damn good underling... I mean the guy continued **** up the world even thousands of years after his boss was locked away and being continually sealed up and freed himself. Also, with most of the other top villains scheming for their own ends he's the only one who does as he's told, dots every 'i' and crosses every 't' and achieves the most for his master even on his own accord. Now that's loyalty.

Shockwave from Transformers.

Megatron trusted him to look after the Decepticon concerns on Cybertron while Megatron was away. several million years later, when the Autobots and Decepticons wake back up and Megatron contacts Cybertron, Shockwave is there, ready to serve.

Think about it: Shockwave was the de facto decepticon leader for thousands of years, with no sign of or word from Megatron. AT ALL. Any other decepticon would have taken over for themselves after all that.

But Shockwave? The second Megatron makes contact he turns back the reins to him. No questions asked.

THAT is loyalty. Thats why Megatron left Shockwave on Cybertron and not Soundwave or (Primus forbid) Starscream.

Any picks?

You probably haven't read any of the comics, then, as Shockwave is far from loyal in every comic he's in.
Soundwave, though, that'd work. And Cyclonus.

Kyle Reese from "The Terminator" gets my vote, though.

And you can't forget Lugnut, Grand High Poobah of Megatron Fanatics.

Baldric from Blackadder.

Okay so he was incompetent and didn't do anything right, but he obeyed Blackadder all the time.
