Botcon: What should I expect?

Postby robofreak » Wed Mar 11, 2009 11:34 pm

Well, I'm finally able to go to Botcon and I'm super excited. I got 2 Primus packages because I figured that since my dad is going I might as well get two sets instead of wasting money on a protoform. No, I have no intention of selling the extra set so don't ask me about it.

I need some advice on what I should expect from Botcon and how I should go about acquiring the souvenir sets?

I know the souvenir sets are made available shortly after picking up my Packages, but where would I go to get them? Does the TCC have a separate line for them and is there a limit to the number I can buy? I'm hoping to be able to get 2 of each of the souvenir sets so I'll end up with 2 complete Wings of Honor sets.

Also, how much money should I have on hand for the dealer room? I currently have $700 saved up for Botcon, but I don't know if I'll need much more than that. I've heard that Botcon dealers tend to overprice stuff, but I don't know if that's true.

The souvenir sets are available for purchase as soon as you pick up your badge and Primus package on thursday afternoon. Also when you get your box set you will get your free attendee figure as well. You just need to wait on another line located close to the registration area.

There will be a 2 lines (one cash, one credit) for you to stand in to get your souvenir figures, and lithographs. They normally run $100 ish for the larger set and $50 ish for the smaller set. The cash line is faster, But not by much. Bring a game boy or a book, or just hope to be in line with a friend or fellow board member to pass the time.

Because both you and your father will have Primus package name badges you will be able to get 2 sets of both souvenir figures, They limit them on the first day to 1 large and 1 small per Primus package.

For dealer room advise, $700 should be fine, I think I spent around that last year. Just be sure to have a list of what you want to buy. And don't forget to save money for food!

Thanks for the response. I'm just worried about going to get the souvenir sets only to get a SOLD OUT when I get up there, but I guess that as long as I make good time I should be safe.

My dad is taking care of food expenses since I took care of the primus packages. Also, staying at my aunts house is going to save a ton of money instead of being at the hotel.

I also intend to get some of the ROTF stuff so if $700 is good for the dealer room then I think I should come up with another $300 at least.

Also, I forgot to ask this earlier, but how does the dealer room work? The forms make it seem as though the only thing you actually can do on thursday night is pick up your package and raid the club store. The dealer room opens up for people on Friday at 2, but what else happens during that day? Same question for Saturday. Also what about Sunday? Do they do the panels and other stuff on Sunday only or is that done throughout Friday and Saturday as well?

You don't need to worry about the sets selling out on the first day. The only time that ever happened was at Botcon '06 with Darksyde Megatron (due to it's very low production numbers). As long as you go straight to the souvenir line after registration you should have no problems.

With the dealer room, it should open up friday morning for the attendee preview. Here is a link to Botcon 2008's schedule, All 3 days are full of panels and other fun things to do. This years schedule should be similar.

And for fun, take a look at Botcon 2006's dealer room thanks to Ryan's gallery. It should give you an idea of what to expect from this years.

I'm thinking of doing some kind of 'Line Party' on Thursday (expect anywhere from 4-6 hours in line).

But...we'd have to coordinate something.

What is the souvenir set and how does it/does it differ from the Botcon convention set?

The souvenir sets are two pairs of figures, one priced around 100, the other around 50, both pairs are available for purchase at the Club Booth after picking up your registration. They are basically add-on companion figures to the boxed set.

I'll be happy to join the party! Just let me know the details. I'm going to try to get there as early as possible so I can get through registration fairly fast.

Also, anyone know how much Darksyde Megatron is worth? I'm thinking about buying one if I can get find one for a good price in the dealer room.

No such thing. CP I think was one of the fastest last year and he was still there for 4+ hours

$800!!!!!!

I think I'll wait for the economy to tank some more and let the price drop.

So if registration starts at 6, then should I arrive an hour early or will it not really make a difference?
