In that case shouldn't the smaller bots use weapons to make up for their size, and avoid hand to hand and close quarter battles, putting as much distance between them and the enemy

Back a few years ago there was a show called BattleBots. Pretty much just robots smacking the crap out of eachother. THAT was entertainment. So if you make the robots 20 - 30 feet tall and ad on a saw or a sword, then things get interesting.

Seems primitive to be rolling around in the streets. Being Robots I would expect them to be more efficient Killers, going for a quick kill versus a drawn out slug fest. If properly choreographed a shoot out can keep you on the edge of your seat (The Matrix, in the Lobby)
