Brawn over lasers?

Postby Raymond101 » Tue Aug 07, 2007 10:16 pm

It seems that Prime and Megatron are much fonder of getting down and dirty (in the bad way) with each other rather than using powerful and diverse long-range weapons as we saw in G1, Armada, Energon and Cybertron. In other words, they seem to prefer fighting with bare hands more than weapons.

Anyone got any suggestions why? I'm surprised Megatron didn't display his firepower more - he used his chain whip more often, and you saw more of Prime's fists and sword than you did his trademark rifle.

I think you can only get so interesting with gun fights, from a movie point of view. but for a *reality* point of view.. i dunno.. I guess maybe they just don't have uber weapons in this continuity. atleast they have some aim though.

Though blackout sure did have some firepower on him.

Weapon: Gattling Gun
The images we saw of Prime, Megatron, Bumble before the movie, they seemed to be pretty well armed. They opted to go with martial arts style combat vs. weapons Im guessing to maintain the PG-13 rating. I would have preffered some gun play, with laser type weapons rather than our ballistic types

Megatron thinks he is the strongest being in the universe, so he doesn't use his weapons much. I, on the other hand, don't have much time to use them.

It seems appropriate though. Sure they are advanced mechanical beings, but since they are fighting other Transformers, put your size to the advantage and resort to brute strength.

In that case shouldn't the smaller bots use weapons to make up for their size, and avoid hand to hand and close quarter battles, putting as much distance between them and the enemy

Did we realy want a classic G1 style shot out where 30 foot robots can't hit the broadside of a barn?

Besides Brawl was shot up pretty badly in his fight. And I don't remember him throwing a single punch. It was really more Prime and Megs that were beating each other to death. Well and BB and Barricade for that matter.

Though since they were using ballistic weapons perhaps they did have a limited amount of fire power. To one degree or another. Screamer found an easy way to conserve ammo simply by tearing the other planes apart.

The one shot Megatron got on Prime with his fusion canon seemed to do some damage. Unless it expends alot of energy or has a long re-charge period I thought he would of used it more.

They were punching and wrestling with each other rather than fighting with guns/swords/futuristic weapons (as opposed to Blackout, Ironhide, Jazz, etc.)

BTW, I have nothing against this style of fighting, in fact I like it. Makes them seem more powerful than previous incarnations.

Robots shooting eachother is boring. Whenever I turn on the tv and watch something like Gundam, I see them shooting at eachother, and it's BORING, when I see them using their swords and such it's much better.

Back a few years ago there was a show called BattleBots. Pretty much just robots smacking the crap out of eachother. THAT was entertainment. So if you make the robots 20 - 30 feet tall and ad on a saw or a sword, then things get interesting.

We saw Megs had to put both hands together to use his cannon. Prime could have gotten close enough or thrown something to knock him off balance, as happened, preventing Megs from using his gun.

Prime probably wanted to avoid collateral damage. If he shot Megs and Megs ducked, that shot would hit a human building.

I loved the way those office workers scurried away when they saw Megs get out his BFG. I also prefer them using bullets than lasers. It adds to that realism they were going for.

This is why I love the fights in Victory. As each sides use melee combat, it makes the fights so much more interesting. Same with teh Prime/Megs fight in teh original movie. That was so good because they were using fists, legs, blade weapons.

Yeah but Ironhide and Jazz seem to be fond of using long-range weapons - in fact, I think Jazz is more well-rounded as a fighter, he was good with hand-to-hand combat, in many ways he was a mini-Prime, which I guess was why he was the second-in-command.

I'm starting to like how Prime and Megs fought more with bare hands rather than always weapons. It exudes raw power rather than your typical futuristic Gundam mecha show.

There should have been much more actual gun fights and with some lazers or space type weapons. There was too much grapeling/rolling around on the ground. The real reason why they probably didnt have any shoot outs was because the deigns were so complicated and rendering them into complicated shoot outs would have been an even bigger pain in the ass.

Hand to hand fights are probably a bit more cgi expensive, since we have constant movement. WIth a firefight, you can pretty much have a bot standing there or beside a wall snapping off his gun, probably less rendering and movement, ie cheaper.

THe fight scenes should have been more wide angled, none the less, firefight or not.

Seems primitive to be rolling around in the streets. Being Robots I would expect them to be more efficient Killers, going for a quick kill versus a drawn out slug fest. If properly choreographed a shoot out can keep you on the edge of your seat (The Matrix, in the Lobby)

Depends how you think about it: the most advanced robots need more advanced weapons, or they don't need them precisely because they are so advanced?

And don't forget we had out fair share of futuristic weapons from Ironhide, Blackout, Jazz, Ratchet. Brawl and Starscream had more conventional weapons but they still kicked butt. Oooh! Don't forget Bumblebee had some kind of a proton blaster too, and shot it many times too.

Yeah, but a really advanced robot vs. another really advanced robot isn't going to end with a quick kill. It's going to get dirty when they realize they know each other's tactics and weapons.

That's what I'm thinking, they're both too high tech and familiar with each other (remember once they were co-rulers of cybertron) to use weapons. Megatron probably used his fusion cannon only to delay Prime so that he could grab the Allspark, and Prime used his blaster to knock Megatron off-balance (which failed).

Transformers were impervious to bullets, rockets and lasers.

That's why they prefer to punch and slice.
