Classic Evil Jetfire

Postby Boggs6ft7 » Sun Jan 07, 2007 7:36 pm

I haven't posted here in a while and thought I would show my latest custom. I didn't put this in the "classics minor mods" because I thought it was more than minor, if someone wants to move it there, that is fine.

Lots of screws and what not to keep track of while taking him apart, not to mention hidden screws.... annoying.

Anyways, hope you enjoy him.

Wow. That's absolutely gorgeous. I'm not usually a big fan of blacklining, but sometimes it just makes a fig pop; this is definitely one of those occasions.
Also, I see you've got the two styles of hesd there. I don't have the fig yet, but I haven't heard of that being a feature. How did you pull it off - is it two interchangeable heads, a separate helmet or are both heads part of the transformation?

That is sweet....how'd you do all the lines?....Did you use the Blackwash technique? If so how's it done exactly?

Not really a wash. I touched the panel lines with a brush soaked in thinned down black paint. Capillary action does the rest. After it had dried, I take a rag damped in thinner and gently wipe away any paint that may have spilled over. It takes some getting used to. I like this technique better than gundam pens because the paint follows all the recesess, kinda like actual dirt and grease would.

Thanks for the compliments.

Is the white/grey darkened as well, or is that just the camera/lighting? It looks nice. I always endorse appropriately matching bright/dark levels to the paint washes. If he's this dark, I probably don't have much to say about it, but the wash still looks a little dark.

Actually Ramrider, the new Classics Jetfire figure does indeed come with the helmet.

It has been painted gray. I used Tamiya Neutral Gray, specifically AS-7. I don't think the lining looks as stark in person.

Also, if anyone cares, Tamiya AS-7 Neutral Gray is NOT the same as the neutral gray in the bottles. The stuff in the bottles is a little darker.

Absolutely love it.

I just unpacked Jetfire yesterday and was immediately thinking he would look good in grey.

May have to do this myself. By coincidence I have a second: had just bought Jetfire and spotted him in another store a few hours later with better paint applications; was planning to return the first, but I might just keep it to make something like this myself.

Very good.
