Oh you goddamn pommy *expletive withheld* ... you did not just call me an American.

that's the big thing right there. One nice thing about season 3 of the TV show was more transformer screen time and less human screen time, thanks in large part to the Quintessons.

Personally, I hated series 3 and what could be described as series 4. Series 1 and 2 were so much better in my opinion because it was based on Earth; it grounded the thing and made it believable. As a kid I could relate to the characters who saw common vehicles turn into robots.
Series 3, thanks to the Quintessons, had virtually NO grounding and wasn't "robots in disguise", it was.. transforming robots fighting each other in space. Opinions are opinions
As for the discussion, it is true that the characters weren't fully shown, but.. as a fan, you should already know and enjoy the experience - well, maybe not everyone - and non-fans enjoy it because there isn't anything like it. Plus, all of the designs and demeanors are different for each Autobot. You might not know their names, but you know what they are like and can separate them.
It's not uncommon for me to watch a new film and miss half of the characters' names! And I'm an avid watcher and critic of films.
I vote for more characterisation in the next one, but I don't want the sequel to alienate the audience with TOO much Transformers on screen just to satisfy the fan base.
CJH wrote:I'd rather have a film that is a good film, which is Transformers. I'd like everyone I know to appreciate it; which happened with the first film. I like the appeal of getting MORE people into liking Transformers rather than JUST going for the obsessive fan base and alienating everyone else.
If you had like 20 Transformers on each side or.. Unicron or OTT mass-shifting, or jetting off into space (or all of those things at once) most people will just think its a silly fan-service movie full of random jargon and unexplained backstory.
There's watered down for non-fans and there is watered down for fans.
Of course, it's my opinion, and TF2 will probably be OTT like most sequels these days (Dead Man's Chest, Matrix Reloaded) riding high on the "BIGGER is better" ethos rather than "let's make it good" ethos.
