Die Cast Construction (It's a lost art.)

Postby Uniprimus » Tue Aug 28, 2007 3:19 pm

For some time, I have thought the Alternators were stupid, so I did not purchase any. Now, I am thinking of just that. But I do not want all die cast Alts and their leader made of plastic (plastic, I perfer.) So, are the american Alts pastic with no die cast, or are they, and with Binaltechs, also?

Alternators does not contain diecast parts where as Binaltechs contain diecast parts. I have both sets and the Binaltechs feel more solid then the Alts but gets paint chips a lot easily.

By and large I prefere the Alts. Quality overall was better (especilly in later waves and after the second or third repaint of a mold).

There is a reason that diecast is a lost art, with perhaps the exception of MP/20th Prime, Diecast does modern designs no favours AT ALL (as expertly shown by the 6inch tits, most of which would have been better with a similer but all plastic design).

I freaking HATE die cast on figures strictly other than g1. There weren't even alot on them. MP Prime sucked cuz of it, WW 6 Prime sucked cuz of it, hel, I could go on forever! BTW, anyone know if american MP SS is gonna be die cast?
Double BTW, do any of the g1 g1 toys have paint on em?

Die-cast is lost art only when it comes to Transformers. The Soul of Chogokin series prove that die-cast is well alive. Also, the use of die-cast found on G1 Transformers is pretty unimpressive compared to what the transforming Godaikin, Popy, Clover, Takatoku, Sentai, etc. figures gave us well before the days of Transformers (from the late '70s to the early '80s). So when you think about it, die-cast was never an art when it comes to Transformers. Die-cast toes on an all-plastic toy? So what...

PS : my die-cast SOC figures never suffer from paint chipping because the paint is correctly applied in generous amounts in the first place.

Thus....
Die-Cast = No Fun

For me, I gotta go plastic with the Alternators, simply as the paint stays and it's all good.

I have complete sets of the Alts and BTs MISB. I have some BT doubles out of box on display but after seeing how much paint chipping they go through I stopped buying doubles and switched to doubles of the Alts for display purposes.

Longs for the days of G1 where we only had to worry about Megatron, Soundwave and Laserbeak wanting to be Autobots, Swoop calling himself Tracks and Slingshot calling himself Slingslot!

Dunno how many people read Shortpacked, but discussions about diecast always remind me of this:

The Die cast in Binaltech's makes them feel nice and heavy, but for the (generally) complex transformations that most alts/Binaltech's have, and with all the moving parts, Plastic is the better material for them, no paint chipping, no deep scratches etc etc. Plastic is simply better from a visual standpoint.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

I definitely prefer the Alts. The only BT I have is Hound, and while I haven't had any problems with paint chipping as yet, the weight of the metal (which is pretty much all in his upper body) makes him a bugger to stand up.
