Do you like the movie line more than Armada/Energon/Cybertron?

Postby Raymond101 » Fri Jul 27, 2007 11:48 am

If you do, why?

It seems that the movie line has a lot less gimmicks and stuff to play around with than Armada/Energon/Cybertron. No minicons, no energons weapons or multi-combos w/ figures, and no planet keys. Also a mroe restrcited cast. So if you like the movie line more, why so?

Certainly not.

I'd take any of the three over the movie line.

Better plastics, better design, classic designs...

not that the movie line is bad...but Cybertron alone crushes the movie toys in every regard.

Get rid of the stupid Keys and they certainly would!

Can you name three figures where the key gimmick specifically interferes with either the form or the function of the Transformer?

Because the Automorph on Bumblebee, Blackout, and to a lesser degree Ironhide is more problematic than any key gimmick.

I think the movie line is head and shoulders above any other TF line so far.

They look like actual giant-ass robots would look and have realistic alt modes.

Their transformations are complex and fun, and they're full of new concepts not just the same basic designs rehashed and reconfigured.

I love the new movie line. It makes Cybertron/ energon/ armada look like gobots. Sorry. LC

I totally agree, I'm sick of "futuristic" looking vehicles and all that gimmicky nonsense. Give me realistic alt. modes and complex transformations over that crap any day of the week. I only bought a handful of figures from Armada/Energon/Cybertron but the movie line is so much better, I'm buying them all! Except Dreadwing...he just sucks.

I'll take those 3 lines over the Movies. They were easier to find for one thing. I REALLY hate the automorph features. It limits articulation and is more likely to break.

Armada/Energon/Cybertron, simply because the plastic isn't craplastic, and the parts don't break off everytime you transform them.

I like the original idea of transformers that everyday objects turn into a robot and not a super space fighter plane turns into robot.

For me the franchise already died a bit in 1986 when Galvatron and his henchman stepped up and we had unidentifiable objects like Blur and Kup to counter that.

For the storytelling it's great.. for the toys it's not. that's why I go for the Movie.. heck, any leader or deluxe class vehicle has an authentic look that just can't be compared with what ever futuristic was thought up to keep us busy.

I prefer movie figures because they reconnect me with my G1 figures. The movie figures look like something you would see in real life. Cybertron, Armada, Energon are just too futuristic.

I never collected any of the Armada trilogy series toys, so maybe I'm biased. But they honestly never appealed to me. I always took a look at them in stores, but I think I'm just more interested in alternate modes that are based on earth vehicles and what not.

Iike the movie toys more than the series noted because they were so different in their design. The toys from the various series' though had some very notable figures. Armada Wheeljack comes to mind. Wish they would repaint him.
BWOP: "Die-cast construction...It's a lost art!"

Longs for the days of G1 where we only had to worry about Megatron, Soundwave and Laserbeak wanting to be Autobots, Swoop calling himself Tracks and Slingshot calling himself Slingslot!

No I can't cos I don't have much of them, very rare and expensive in Germany.
Indeed the keys don't interfear with the transformation.
As for automorph, I don't have those figs you listed exept Blackout, and well mine seems to have no automorph, so it's brocken.

The keys, well I dislike them just like minicons, don't know wy, maybe cos you need them to unlock stuff like misiles and such.
I know you love these lines, I like them to cos they are Transformers and some off them are real gems.

I would prefere Transformers without gimics.

For kids the trilogy toys are/were more fun im sure. the movie toys are just a bit dull. I can see kids getting more into mixing the superlink toys from energon. As for the automorph features, they aren't that impressive anyway, on jazz for eg you barely are aware the head has popped up by itself, the extra engineering in the automorph can limit posability and increases breakages as stated before.

I like the complexity of the movie line, but I still kinda like some of the aesthetic of the cartoon toy lines too. I love the ones with a lot of weaponry, and most of the movie toys kinda lack in that regard, except perhaps Ironhide and Starscream. The movie toys are definitely awesome show pieces, but they can't completely replace the earlier lines to me.

Shame

Postby sdefedder » Sat Jul 28, 2007 12:12 pm

Just a shame they cant do a decent paint job on there figures, i saw this somewhere...1 on left is how it is, 1 on right is custom painted... See the difference.

I do tend to like the movie line more so than the other lines.
I love the g1 line and all up to the 86 movie. I love some G2 lines. I cant stand most of the armada/energon/cyberton lines. and Dont even own a single figure from those lines.

I like the classics line and nearly anything from MOST beast series. With Machines my favorite.
