I love the movie toys, and i plan on owning all of them at some point.

Right now all i have is classic BB, Concept BB, Jazz, Leader Class Prime, Voyager Prime and Barricade.

I used to have a Voyager Ratchet but i customized him and sold it on Ebay, and i also have a voyager Ironhide that i am re-painting to hopefully sell on Ebay as well.

Fury wrote:I really like what they've done with this line. They brought me back into collecting. The movie made me buy some figures for sure. But the fact that I was pretty impressed by the toys I got, really made go back into to hell known as collecting. Blackout, Ironhide and Leader Prime were my first ones. Blackout's alt mode is awesome, Ironhide overall is one my favorite transformers, and Leader Prime is almost perfect(my opinion...)

So my first impression of this line was pretty good. And after that, it was good surprises after good surprises. Everything I bought so far is great.

It's funny, I rant and rave about the Cybertron line all the time (when I only have one toy from that line), but in reality it is the movie line that brought me back into collecting after stopping at Beast Wars.

Strange that Cybertron didn't bring me back into collecting. And Leader Prime and Megs are the first Leader class figures I've ever owned in my life (seriously, the biggest TFs I ever owned when younger were Transmetal 1 Primal and Megs), so there's definitely going to be sentimental value there if I still own them when I'm 30+!

I really love Jazz. I initially hated the way that he looked when I saw the publicity photos but then I saw the movie and bought the toy and looked it over for a little while after I got it and I have to say it's probably one of my all-time favorite Transformers toys now.
The detail is so incredible and it looks great next to the other toys. I never thought that Hasbro could make a toy that could top the quality of G1 Jazz but I was wrong.
The alt mode looks really beautiful as well. It has the kind of detail and design that makes it fit in really well with all the transformers toys from the past. I put him on my Brave Max in base mode and he just looked awesome next to the older toys. Ironhide's alt mode is really great as well and it fits in with the older toys just as well as the new Jazz toy does.
Leader Prime is also pretty sweet as well. I'm not a major fan of Prime's movie look (I still argue that his G1 look would have translated just as well on screen) but the toy has really grown on me and he looks great next to all the other Transformers in their robot forms.
Barricade's okay but there's something about his face that I just don't like. His alt mode, on the other hand, is really incredible and it's almost as detailed and realistic looking as the alternators.
And Wreckage? He has to be one of the best transformer figures I've seen in years. I really love the way his face looks. It would be awesome if he were to somehow make it into the next movie based on the popularity of the toy.
The rest of the toys in the line are merely okay. They aren't horrible but they aren't so great that the collectors have to rape the aisles of the merchandise every time they're restocked and buy every last one. Overall I'd say the line is, with the exception of the standouts I listed above, pretty weak and overrated. It's certainly nowhere near as good as the Classics or even Cybertron IMO.

Pretty much my feelings. The line as a whole is not terrible, but there are certain parts of many of the toys that are terrible.

Better plastic and some paint would have vastly improved this line, and made me less crabby about many of the design issues and flaws in the automorph gimmick.

I like the movie figs, some have flaws to them but I still like it. i never liked energon, armada or cybertron just cus they show wasn't good or let me change that, I just didn't like it. I even like 74 bumblebee even though others don't like. It's just a lucky draw, some people will get terrible deluxe brawls and some people will. My barricade is well better condition then my cousins when he bought it after I did because his gimmick was too sensitive and there were red paint on the door. So yeah, it's just luck

I like all the Movie toys of characters in the movie. They match up great to their counterparts on the big screen. The only None movie character movie toy I like is Arcee. Swindle, wreckage, dreadwing, ect kind of suck. Nothing to compare them to in Real life.

i too love them!! they got me into it!!! the leader prime is best, imo! the ironhide, movie G1 jazz and movie G1 starscream are also very cool!! the concept bumblebee is alright but i don't see what all the hype is about! its not that great of a bot, imo again! i have the thundercracker, voyager megs and the dreadwing coming in the next couple of days!! but i also have a primus, metroplex and an ultra magnus coming too! i'm only missing 3 or 4 or the movie bots and i'll have all of them, they are starting to pop up all over so it won't be to hard to find them. then when the animated series starts, i can get all the older ones i want!

All-in-all I would say they are pretty decent. I wasn't a fan at first but they have grown on me. I needed to get past the vehicle choices... guess I wanted the old skool vehicles but the new GM models looked good on the big screen. Ironhide was aa great improvement, unless you a mini-va person, but I still haven't gotten over Frezy, just yet.

I actually wish they had more stuff to play with. I mean Leader Prime gets one ion blaster and Galaxy Convoy gets an entire armoury as his weapons?! Come on! :-P

So far I'm loving all the ones I've been able to get. Even though some of them have problems.

Movie G1 Jazz-Excellent figure. The black against white in Bot mode reminds me so much of G1 Jazz.
Movie Jazz-Cool figure, but the color scheme absorbs alot of his details. And the hands do kinda suck
Movie G1 Starscream-Awesome jet, I really like the look of it. But I don't care much for the Bot mode. To me he looks like a giant triangle sitting on top of some short chicken legs.
Voyager Blackout- Love him, love him, love him. Beautiful and intimidating in either form.
Deluxe Barricade- Great figure, very stocky, but his ankles are too weak and he likes to fall over. (which triggers his autopunch, then he looks like he fell and had a siezure)
Voyager Ratchet-Beautiful bot. Really big and thick. Rear panels like to fall off alot though when he's in alt mode, and his hands are switched. i.e, his left hand is his right and vice versa.
Deluxe 74 Bumblebee- Being a Classic Camaro fan I had to get him. I like him alot, but I do hate his huge ugly feet.
DreadWing-Hate him, Hate him, Hate him. Cool looking alt mode, but imo the stupidest cheesiest looking bot mode I've seen. Dumb hands, ugly head and face. I felt cheated. Wish I had gotten Deluxe Brawl instead.

So yeah, I'm really digging the movie line, but almost all of the ones I've gotten have had issues.

They all seem ok and such, but wish some would be Voyager class instead like Brawl, I think Leader Brawl is a bit of a Overkill on size? Sure tanks are spose to be large. Bonecrusher should have been Voyager or even Leader. Match the size of a MRAP o.o

I have deluxe Arcee and Jazz... they both have no hands and don't realy have good play value.
Then I have voyager starscream... he has no hands but is a pretty evil looking decepticon I reckon he is a really good figure.
Leader Optimus Prime got me back into transformers, but even here his head lacks a couple of essential movements and he has no real gun.
And Ultimate BB is alright. Nice to have the noise box and a huge transforming car. Pretty expensive but kinda worth it.

I like the movie toys but don't really feel the desperation (like a lot of people seem to) to get them all. I have passed up both megs and all of them have been around. Everyone was discounted from the Australian retail price except Ultimate BB and he was Aus$120.

I prefer the classics toys and the G1 '84-'86 era.

I really like the movie line quite a bit. The Classics line got me back into collecting after about 20 years, but the movie line KEEPS me collecting (though I've been getting very interested in Alternators). My main gripe is availability, even in backwoods NH scalpers are a problem, that and they probably figure NH doesn't need as many TFs as the bigger markets. Still, I have managed to get my hands on the majority of the ones I want. However, Concept BB, and Deluxe Barricade never seem to be anywhere around here. I originally intended to only collect figs that actually appeared in the movie, but I may pick up a few of the others like Payload and Arcee.

My complaints about the actual figures are few and far between. Like the size of Deluxe Bonecrusher for instance. He's freakin tiny, but the sculpt is great and you can pose him exactly like the highway scene in the movie. My only other real complaints are about Leader Megatron. I love this guy still, but he is very blocky in robot mode and his alt mode is probably the worst of the line. Other than that I really like them and will continue to track the sneaky bastids down.

Hey froggy, I highly recommend Arcee. Her feminine bot mode is actually quite in line with the movie aesthetics of 'aliens'.

And with your concerns about Leader Megatron: he is blocky? So what? :P Seriously, I like his extra bulk, can't have him being smaller than Leader Prime. Also, I agree his jet mode sucks, but it's silly to keep him in that mode while displaying him, it's clear that the designer focused pretty much 100% on his robot mode. You can tell that I like his figure - but trust me, I understand where all the complaints are coming from, I was once a hardcore Leader Megs hater. But after some customization, he is becoming more favourite than my Leader Prime.

Hey Raymond, I think you just convinced me to go pick up Arcee. I've only spotted her once and if past experience tells me anything if I don't go get it now I will never find it around here again.

Also, I really like Leader Megs, but of the very few complaints I have about the line, a couple of them are reserved for him. His robot mode is quite imposing and a great companion piece to Leader Prime. Prime is also "blocky", but not to the extent of Megs in my opinion.

Yeah cool, pick up Arcee if you can. Her weapon is also very cool, it converts from a buckler to a crossbow once you insert the projectile, and back again if you press the trigger. Just a really nice toy to add to your collection overall.

Yeah, Megatron is not perfect. But his bulk is worthwhile to me. You know he has a super mode although Hasbro doesn't tell? While he's in robot mode, just fold out the wings that are meant for his jet mode. Now he has massive wings that can match up to Galaxy Convoy! Now movie Leader Prime's in trouble! :P I keep the wings folded in, but that's just to save space.

And Leader Prime is not bulky and not as playable as Galaxy Convoy from Cybertron/Galaxy Force. But he is extremely poseable and that's what he is strong about. Considering he's actually quite a basic toy, with only 2 Automorph gimmicks and only one weapon. It's both a good thing and a bad thing in that way.

First off, I admit to hating the new designs when I first saw them.

I did however, reserve the right to change my mind and I did have the foresight to know that I would likely end up really enjoying at least a few of the new toys.

Well, I have all of the new line except for Payload and Dropkick. For the most part, these are some good Transformer toys.

What's bad?

1. The poopy poopy plastic. Bleh, turns my stomach compared with Cybertron and Classics. I have had several figures have stress marks fresh out of the package. This is unacceptable.

2. Bad paint apps. Overall? yea, this line has some shoddy work going on. From missed lines, fuzzy borders, and paint flicks the QC is lacking.

3. Scale. Yes, it's a problem in other lines too. But what? They had to get like 10 figures in scale with each other? C'mon, Bonecrusher is pathetic. He's an embarrassment. Blackout could have easily been the Christmas time Supreme figure that everyone really does want.

The good.

1. New Transformations! Everyone has a unique and interesting (if not frustrating) transformation. Too bad no child will ever properly transform some of them...but they are fun to us, right?

2. Leader Prime, Leader Brawl, 08' Bumblebee, Ironhide, Longarm. F to the MFn' A. These are some damn good Transformers. They should be celebrated for their designs, transformations, and inginutiy. These are the new classis and they set a standard for future toys to live up to. Good going Hasbro. High Five! ::SLAP::

3. Availability. Boo hoo, you can't find anything. Whoopy doo. It's good. The hunt is good. The fact that you can't find things and are excited about it is good. It's like hazing for the noobs. I enjoy watching you all worry and flip out over this stuff, inspite of the advice everyone offers. Collecting is exciting and difficult again. Welcome to the game suckers.

I agree with the scale problem. Prime and Megs are fine, the rest are horribly out of scale. I keep Bonecrusher in his vehicle mode nowadays anyway, his robot mode isn't that good and his vehicle's cool anyway.

I guess the problem would have been that the Decepticons could have all been Leader Class if we tried to keep them to scale. Then no kiddies would buy them. :P

The Autobots are fine: Bumblebee and Jazz in deluxe, Ironhide and Ratchet in Voyager, and Prime in Leader.

See, buying to-scale Autobots DOES save you money!

Ups and downs of the toys

Postby Strika442 » Tue Aug 28, 2007 5:28 pm

Here's our current 'bot list:
Deluxe Brawl
Deluxe Scorponok
Deluxe Jazz (not the Porsche-esque repaint)
Deluxe Wreckage
Voyager Ratchet
Deluxe Bumblebee (Classic Camaro)
Voyager Starscream
Voyager Ironhide
Deluxe Barricade
Leader Optimus Prime
Ultimate Bumblebee
Voyager Megatron
Deluxe Dreadwing
Leader Brawl
Legends transformable miniatures: Ratchet, Megatron, Bumblebee, Barricade and Jazz (they're like "Mini-Mes" for the bigger figures and very portable).

We're still seeking Leader Megatron, Deluxe Bonecrusher, Deluxe Bumblebee (Concept Camaro), Deluxe Arcee and any other deluxe movie figure not featured in the film.

Wreckage, Ratchet, Voyager Megatron and Dreadwing all get big ups for poseability in their robot modes. All of these are easy transformations into alternate modes, too. We posed Ratchet sitting down on the stereo cabinet with one leg crossed over the other.

Ironhide, Leader Brawl, Barricade, Voyager Starscream and Blackout all look cool and transform pretty well (with only minor gripes about tiny details), but aren't as poseable as the ones previously mentioned. Barricade, for example, is top-heavy and has to stand a certain way to stand upright. The details in the faces are phenomenal with all of these.

Ultimate Bumblebee is fun, especially for the movements, poseable fingers and glowing blue eyes! Turn out the lights for maximum effect. For true Bumblebee fans only!

Deluxe Jazz is our least favorite. He looks cool in robot and alternate mode, but the transformation is clumsy and the detachable spoiler/shield is a pain. Classic Camaro Bumblebee is OK, but we keep hearing that the Concept Camaro is cooler.

I like that the main pressure points are covered with detachable/attachable parts. It's a big plus for adults as well as children, who are likely going to be rougher on their toys.

I think a leader version of Blackout would be too cool! He's just too small.

The movie legends miniatures are great fun at the bar!
