In an attempt to get the thread back on the tracks, here:
SEED was okay... just okay. The series would have been fine, had it been fewer episodes or an OVA, because the pacing of it was a clusterf**k and a half. Basically the first (over) half the series could have been summarized in about ten episodes and the last bit was fine how it was... the rest... take it or leave it... I will admit, the animation recycling was atrocious, but so was Wing's and many people have regarded it as their favourite, so that argument really has no merit whatsoever.
That being said I really didn't like SEED at all, it was the first blow of many to knock me out of Gundam Fandom for a while, ruining my faith in the franchise's future, re-watching my old VHS copies of 0080 and Wing if I needed a Gundam fix. It was not until OO that I honestly fell back into the franchise head first. It was fresh, the animation was fluid and very well done (in most cases) and it wasn't just telling a variation of the overall 0079 story, as several of the shows could (IMO) be accused of. Granted there were recycled story ideas which led to a distinct lack of surprises throughout the series, but it kept things different enough that all was not TOTALLY predictable. Mostly, it was just fun. I really enjoyed the suit designs, which translated very well into model kits (I do love me some Gunpla) even the grunt suits were cool looking. The movie even tackled the idea of alien intelligence, so I gotta give it credit for that.
Overall, I, like many, got my first taste of Gundam from watching Wing when it aired in english, and widely accepted it as my favourite even after watching several of the other shows, but OO quickly replaced it at the top of my list.
