i feel like crying when i think about season 3
but my highlight episode - i think the crowing episode of season 3 is indeed Call Of The Primitives. superb artwork, superb characters - especially the low level tollerance of the dinobots, with the predacons, and showing that trypticon isn't completely a mindless dullard, and the complete headstrong mentality of grimlock as he slides down the rockside after chasing tornedron.
i must admit that i wasnt too impressed with the primacron being the creator of unicron (certainly i can understand tornedron) and a matrix like object as its assistant. however i was impressed with the animation, and certainly the brawling throughout the film, and the storyline itself.
call of the primetives, is deffinately the crowning episode of season 3 - why couldnt they use the same animation house for the entire of g1? the japanese have had mecha/robot drawing down to a T and i think it would be absolutely made transformers even better animation wise than the muck we got.....
oh well.. no discerning fan can have it all.... can we?

I think that episode is stupid. How in the name of ass does a race of a bunch of monkeys create one of the most evil beings in the universe, brother of Primus, and the monster that consumed 22.0 percent of the known universe? I like to think of Unicron and Primus as beings created to help the spread of life, not experiments by monkeys.

fairy-nuff....thats your oppinion and you are entitled to it, but - and i stress but - the difference between comic cannon and animated tv cannon is vastly different.
in the original G1 animation, Unicron was just a giant bringer of destruction that was the ultimate in evil. in the G1 comic - Unicron was different, he was worshipped as a god by some, and only after Primus got shot in the head, did he begin to show up (furman-verse and has-verse work with the same characters, but take different deviations, because the has-verse didnt explain where unicron came from, he just was there, where as furman-verse allowed for more background, more scope than what a cell shade, and a room full of corporate execs could do).
i do rather gather, that, you are an intellectual and can understand where im coming from (pardon the sarcasm, but its who i am), but remember the Primacron was supposed to be a super genious, and the creature he created just fed on energy - like a virus, so the more it absorbed, the stronger it got.
if you take the animation of all the G1 season 3 episodes, and stack them together - CotP ranks at the top in terms of quality - yes it has its flaws, but then what animation series from the 80's into the 90's didn't?
but on the whole.. yeah Season 3 - sucked donkey-nards..big hairy donkey-nards

It wasn't just The Rebirth. It also had those re-edited episodes with Tommy (or was it Timmy?) and Powermaster Optimus Prime.

Minor quibble, but wasn't Call of the Primitives written and broadcast two full years before Furman started in on Unicron's and Primus' backstories?
