Too much crammed into 3 episodes and poor Akom animation hinders what could have been a GREAT 4th season.
The basic storyline and plot was good enough but should have had more time(episodes) to grow ending with the big showdown on Cybertron with Scorponok and Fortress Maximus. The Quintessons were also strangely absent from this series, they might've been worked in the story at some point for good measure. A better look at the back-story of the Nebulons and their war against Lord Zarak would have been nice as well. It all could have been stretched out and tightened up for the better.
It could have made for a good 25-35 episode series.
When I think of the Rebirth I think of what it COULD have been sadly enough. The Rebirth is not a bad 3-part arc by any stretch, it just could've been MUCH better if it had been allowed to grow.....and uh....Toei did the animation.
Just my opinion anyway.

One of the reasons that they shortened it was because most of the TV networks that ran Transfornmers in the U.S. had already canceled their contracts for airring Transformers before "The Return of Optimus Prime" aired and Hasbro felt that if it wasnt going to be aired in all of its markets they should shorten the shows lenght to save on production cost..Some of the Networks didnt even air "The Rebirth" and the one's that did ran the episodes at weird time slots.

Right, I remember it all too well. Transformers was exiled to a 7:30 AM timeslot by then.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles replaced Transformers former time-slot in the afternoon(at least in my area anyway).
Transformers popularity was waning like you said, it seemed like kids were embracing the Turtles and forgot all about the Transformers. It was sad to watch it happen.

iron maniac wrote:I agree, Lord Zarak would have made for an EXCELLENT nemesis for Galvatron. I could see them fighting and bickering for total command of the decepticons in every episode. Kinda like a more competent Starscream.
I was really looking forward to more episodes and was so disappointed when it was obvious there was no more coming.
I was even more let-down years later after watching the Japanese Headmasters series. I went in with such high expectations and by the final episode I was like "what the hell did I just watch?"
