Horrible Music? Now THAT'S funny. Cybertron didn't have the sort of coolness. As I said, the Unicron trilogy had SFA in the way of character development. Who the hell do you see going around saying "Wow, I sure loved Armada Smokescreen!" or "I absolutely enjoyed the HELL out of Energon Sixshot?" Ya don't. However, you hear a hell of a lot of people saying "I loved G1 Starscream." or "I love G1 Grimlock!" Why? Because G1 had something your little trilogy didn't- character development.

it also had TOO MANY characters. at least with the modern stuff, it's more limited than before, so each character has personality to be explored

another good thing about the unicron trilogy is that many characters were physically if not personality based off G1 counterparts, and in cybertron, many lines from the G1 movie were re-used, which showed that they had respect for the old days

Yes, we know G1 wasn't all that good, but I don't remember constant guitar riffs. They didn't give G1 enough credit.

Though I like G1 better than armada, energon, and cybertron combined I must disagree on the character development thing. In G1 each cartoon episode (not counting the movie) was a reset button.

However G1 characters had more personality than the new series do, but in a good way. Sadly some of this personality was used to replace character development, but each characterhad their own personality and the best floated to the top.

I tried watching the new series (1 episode of armada, 2 or 3 of energon, and about 4 of cybertron) and in that time the only character who grew to appeal to me at all was Ransack in Cybertron. On the contrary, characters in the new series tend to annoy me. The kids were annoying, as were armada cyclonus and energon ironhide. I found the beeoping minicons being central to armada as annoying too.

One part of the annoyance to me in the new series is it takes on some of the worst anime traits. Mind you I have watched and enjoyed some anime and know it can be good (but i never gopt into it enough to feel a need to seek it out) and i do not mind the anime art style. But Anime often does things with personalities that annoy me to no end. Anime style personalities are often annoying, extreme, and seem unnatural in the worse series, such as the annoyingly squeeeky voiced girl who is ALWAYS happy and cheerful to an annoying extent, etc. I found the new series to one degree or other suffer from this, especially in the humans.

I also disliked how the new series handled transformation and power ups withthose extended scenes that detracted from the action.

The biggest issue with the new series though is that unlike G1, BW, and BM very very very few characters in the new series appealed to me.

Plus what about modern crap like the Armada trilogy, Pokemon and the other mons, The Batman and Teen Titans?

Pokemon has a lot to answer for since it inspired the anime style in other cartoons.

modern stuff is WAY better than G1, people just don't see it because they are too stuck in the past

I can't agree with you on that. RID and Armada absolutly sucked. I enjoyed Cebertron. Energon was ok. Beast Wars was awesome and I really enjoyed Beast Machines. Do I think G1 is the best ever? Yes in terms of sentimental value. At the same time no because looking back on it the animation was sloppy and the storylines were kinda take it or leave it. At the time it was on it was definitly one of the best and look where it lead us all to.

Now just imagine "Grand Theft Auto: The Animated Series" -- that would be something.

Yes, something aweful.

And sometimes the shows they love are less than perfect -- badly written, poorly animated and ultimately brain-rotting -- and years later, after a kid has grown up and become a successful video-game tester, he will discover that a favorite cartoon really wasn't up to par.

What a tool. Why exactly is this guy allowed to write articles?

All I wanna say is that no matter what series you prefer, it's a fact G1 was there first.

I think Empire was a way better movie, but whenever you hear critics talk about Star Wars it's always A New Hope that gets the credit, because none of the other episodes would exist at all without it.

So whatever your preference, at least aknowledge that the G1 toon is the reason we're having this discussion in the first place.

I've read the article, and I must say: if those are the worst cartoons they've seen, they don't watch many cartoons. Where are infamous "classics" like Super President? Rapsittie Kids? Titanic the Animated Movie (where everyone survives in the end)? How about the old Sub-Mariner cartoon that wasn't animated, but literally cut and pasted from the comic? Ten minutes of any of those, and I'll be begging to watch Silverhawks... if I haven't fainted from the pain.

I can't help but notice, too, the vast majority of the "worst cartoons of all time" there listed come from the eighties. Either eternity's shrunk since I was a moppet, or this is yet another example of the mysterious bias against the 'toons of Generation X (you know, the bias that likes to pretend "Dungeons & Dragons" or "The Mysterious Cities of Gold" didn't happen?). The description of "Jem" all but confirmed this suspicion, as under the trappings, it basically says, "Jem's actually not a bad show at all, but we're listing it anyway because it's contemporary with Transformers and Silverhawks." Sound logic, that.

Transformers-specific: one line of the article struck me as particularly false, because it brushes off what I consider G1's strongest point as a flaw: "Why exactly are the Autobots good and the Decepticons evil?" They aren't. The faction lines aren't supposed to be that clear cut, especially not in season 3 (that's what the episode "The Killing Jar" was about). You see Autobot vs. Autobot and Decepticon vs. Decepticon just as often as Autobots vs. Decepticons. As someone who has watched G1 in the last ten years- last night, in fact- I like that I'm 'allowed' to root for either faction (or neither faction) if I choose.

But as the standard disclaimer goes, I may not agree, but they've got a right to their opinion.

...Although I think it'll change, and fast, if they google the shows I mentioned.

G1 worst cartoon ever?!?

Postby Friend of Da Panda Symbol » Fri Jul 13, 2007 8:38 pm

The 3rd season of the 1st G1 series was one of the worst cartoons I've ever seen. Only 3 robot characters I liked immensly: Kup, Springer & Arcee. The best episode IMO was the hysterical "Webworld". As for TROOP--I place that apart from the as I consider it for what was--an apology to the fans for one of 86 movies biggest mistakes (IMO the BIGGEST mistake)!!!!

However on a side note, even that awful season is golden compared to my most hated cartoon of all time: "Mucha Lucha!" :BOOM:

g1 Was not the worst cartoon ever, it wasn't even the worst transformers series. The worst has got to be Energon, they had 3-d robots with mouths DRAWN on them. That's ghetto, also the characters were so off

Starscream is a loyal servant?!!! :BOOM:
Ironhides character's voice was the worst And were did Red Alert and Jetfire get accents?

How do you even explain accents for transformers.

P.S. Mucha lucha is the worst cartoon ever...that el tigre crap is horrible too. At first I thought it was the same show

The animation itself in G1 is pretty decent. Beast Machines was the best at that particular department. G1 certainly had the better music. Best theme song I might give to Beast Machines as well, since it's friggin' Leftfield. Plots, well, nobody really wins this one. G1 was very episodic, Armada-Energon-Cybertron are continual but they drag quite a bit. Characterisation probably peaked at Beast Wars.

I'm quite interested in what direction the new series will take.

I don't have nostalgia holding me back here, so I can say G1 is the best without a clouded mind. The first Transformers I ever saw was Beast Wars, and looking back now, yeah, it's horrible compared to G1. The 80s had some of the BEST cartoons. You know why? Because they weren't so freaking stupid like the ones today. And I mean stupid in a literal sense! Why must they make every character in every cartoon a complete idiot? At least in G1 we didn't have an abundance of characters sitting around going "duhhhh" like Patrick in Spongebob Squarepants. How is that good for our children? If you ask me, the Decepticons getting drunk on energon (which supposedly wouldn't make it through the censors nowadays) is much more acceptable to me as a parent than retarded cartoon characters. We need a cartoon channel with nothing but 80s and early 90s cartoons. They can call it Retro or something. Just no more stupid cartoons! :-x

The 90's were the best era for cartoons if you ask me.

X men, Spiderman, Beast Wars, all stuff that looks like kids cartoons on the surface, but dealt with a wide variety of real life issues like Aids, discrimnation, responsibility for your actions, death, etc. There was consistant character development throughout the entire cast and actions from one series would come back to haunt them later on, showing that life has consequences that may not be apparant straight away. That is why most who grew up on stuff post Y2K walk around like they are rulers/charvers*. They didn't have quality stuff to help develop their minds.

* I acknolwedge there are alot of people who are not like that. I am speaking of personal experiance of my local area where it does seem like that.

I would love to know how some people can say G1 sucked when without G1, we wouldn't have Transformers AT ALL. If there was no G1, and it wasn't popular, you'd have no Beat Wars, no Beast Machines, no RiD, no Armada, No energon (OK, bad examples) and No Cybertron. No Movie, no more toys, no Alternators, no real gears, no titaniums, no Classics, You would have sod all.

But this is referring to just the cartoon. G1 also had the comics and the toys. Some of us grew up with Transformers by loving the comics and never even having seen the cartoon.
