No such thing as G3.

It's a very very rarely used term used by fans to describe anything that could fit into the G1 continuity that is not G1 or G2. (with G2 only really existing as a toyline, and a Marvel Comic).

RID is referred to as RID, while the Amarda, Energon, and Cybertron series are often referred to as the "Unicron Trilogy"

Weapon: Diffraction Sword
Like he said, there's no official G3, but if anything was going to be, I'd consider it Beast Wars.

Or maybe Machine Wars? Anybody else remember them?

Yeah, the revival brand.
But, G3 is probably only applicable to Beast Wars.

Yeah, the revival brand.

Machine Wars was more of Hasbro's way of saying "okay we don't know how transforming animals are going to take, so we'll sneak out a small line of transforming vehicles at the same time", contingency brand, not revival.

I'll go with a bit of each.

I agree with the sayajin prince on this one.

G2 being a side continuation of G1 were the events killing Optimus and turning Megatron into Galvatron do not actually take place.

For there to be a G3 it would have to follow the events of G1 leading into G2 and pickup after Megatron's death at the hands of his original 12 old man... LeigeMaximo

BW acknowledges Galvatron as Megatron's successor in continuity.

Agreed.

Where did this question come from, anyway? I've never heard the term G3 in the context of Transformers.

It most likely came from Mattimus Prime's thread where he threw in a G3 reference.

This thread was created not long after it.

Funny, too, how the boxes and text for Machine Wars was VERY close to Beast Wars.

Beast Wars is NOT "G3". Beast Wars and Beast Machines has always been referred to as the "Beast Era" of TF.

As far as I am concerned there has never and will never be a "G3".

All the rest of the series, cartoon anyways, have already been talked about.

I'd say Beast Wars counts as an unofficial G3, as it's the second big Transformers resergence in toys. Especially with the originsl intent of the toy line that Optimus and Megatron were supposed to be the same characters as the G1 and G2 Optimus and Megatron. Of course it wss never officially given the name G3, no line was except for the above mentioned knockoff.

so G3 would have to follow the events of G2 but didn't the classics line have a comic series set after G2?

The Classic lines follows G1, and REPLACES G2.

Berast Wars follows G2, at least that was the original intent (Optimus Primal Was originally Optimus Prime in a new body) of the fiction fron Hasbro. It was supposed to be set after G2, where the Autobots and Decepticons learned to increase their power by fusing organic systems to their bodies, making them into robot beasts. It was set on Modern earth.

The Story written by Mainframe Entertainment kinda threw Hasbro's story out the window.

I would say Classics is G3. It takes place after both.

At least in the comic book fisction Classics replaced G2. G2 never happened, so it IS G2 in that sense. In the toy lines...

G1 - Original toys (1984-1990)
G2 - G2 toys (1990)
G3 - Beast Wars (1996)
G4 - Machine Wars (1997)
G5 - Beast Machines (2003)
G6 - RiD (2001)
G7 - Armada (2002)
G8 - Universe (2003, started with convention exclusives)
G9 - Alternators (2004)
G10 - Energon (2004)
G11 - Cybertron (2005)
G12 - Classics (2006)
G13 - Movie (2007)
G14 - Animated (2008)

Of course there could be more if you count things like Animorphs or Star Wars Transformers, but I didn't count anything non-Hasbro or that was a crossover line to another property.

I have no idea why Animated would be G3, it's not the same continuity as G1, but knock yourself out. I'll call it G14.

I'm callin' it G3 only because the only thing I can imagine it could be refered to is TFA which reminds me too much of JLA or just plain old animated. But I guess Classics would be more like G3 so Animated will be G4
