Looks like Generations Metroplex might have met his match:

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have teamed up with JAKKS Pacific to create a "Giant Size" Godzilla toy for director Gareth Edwards' upcoming film and you can check it out below, thanks to MTV.

According to the site, "The enormous, articulated figure (12 points total) stands 24" high (measured diagonally), and is 43" long. In addition, his tail swings back and forth, his mouth opens and closes and he comes packaged with the ability to drive Bryan Cranston totally crazy."

Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters on May 16, the film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The movie pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

A weird hybrid of Rodan and Gyaos from the Gamera film series.

Best introduction to Big G, ever.

So it looks like the flying monsters here are the MUTO, which are referenced in the toy line, and are genetically created by the military. They go rogue and so they reawaken Godzilla to take them out since they can't stop them.
So it seems a bit like Final Wars, or Destroy all monsters.

Agreed. I am now really looking forward to this. Perhaps as much as Days of Future Past and Age of Extinction. Definitely the top 3 of the summer for me.

Yeah I figured thats what the monster was going to be: the genetically engineered such-&-such. Honestly I was hopping they'd save the super secret government program concept for sequel bait.

Gareth Edwards specifically said there won't be a sequel hook for this movie, and that he hates it when movies do that.

And this is a fan-made theme to the movie, one of the few fake tracks on youtube that don't claim they're the real thing. The reason I'm sharing is because it's awesome.

Do hyped for tomorrow, I already ordered my tickets. :michaelbay:

Just got back from seeing it.
It's good, actually it's really fantastic.

I'm going to spoiler it a teeny weeny bit, the main trailers lie a bit about the movie, which is good because that means you'll actually be a bit surprised because you were expecting something different.
Godzilla is in the role of a hero, he does kinda destroy cities, but only because he's trying to save the world from the MOTU. But he actually does a better job of preserving human life and civilization than Superman did in Man of Steel.

The scenes involving Godzilla, especially near the end are awesome, and just ooze Godzillaness. :michaelbay:

Anyhow, I do have one question and one joke question, Are there any like references or Easter eggs or winks to any of the other Godzilla movies that you noticed, and does Bryan Cranston turn into Jet Jaguar?

There are nods to 1954, Godzilla feeds on radiation (like in the 1984 reboot), in the opening credits we see a drawing of a "Godzilla" skeleton, looks exactly like the skeleton seen in the 2002 Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (including goofiness).
No he doesn't. What gave you the idea that he would?

Godzilla is the "heroic" force of nature in this movie, fighting the paracitic MUTOs, and there is even a "nod" do "King of all monsters".. I felt like a 10 year old kid again..

I'm pretty sure I saw one but I noticed it at the last second, and when I went to do a double take the camera angle had changed and never went back.

It's when Cranston and his son go into the Q-zone to their old home, there is a glass pen in one of the shots (for a reptilian pet), and I swear I saw a piece of tape on the glass that said, "Mothra" on it.

I like the design of this Godzilla a lot.
It's pretty close to the original I love so much, but does have its own spin on it all.

The creators said that they tried to put a lot of bear into him, and it does show, with the way he stands and roars. But he looks very crocodile like, if you look at his hands and feet especially, they look like mutated crocodile feet, especially the hands, and then there is the scale design on his back.

Seriously you guys, the final battle with all the dust and everything is amazing. Just when I was all "Oh come on, they promised that he would have the breath. This fight would be perfect to use it, why doesn't he use it!?"
You see the outline of his tail in the dust cloud and then his spikes begin to light up while the camera reveals more of his body. :michaelbay:

I so hope we get a sequel out of this.

It looks more like two labels accidentally overlapping, but yeah, it is a pretty obvious shout-out to Mothra. Incidentally, thanks, I wouldn't have known to look for that if you hadn't pointed it out.

More awesome than tubby though. ;)

I thought this film had a very solid human/Kaiju characterization balance, despite the seemingly perpetual stupidity of the upper Naval command. Godzilla defending his territory gave him a sensible motivation to attack the MUTO and presented him in a more heroic, but still animalistic light.

And yes, the fire breathing was glorious. Especially against the female, when Godzilla decided she should give him her face.
