My pleasure. That is what this thread is all about. For now I'll stick with FoC Grimlock's sword until I can get a proper replacement. When I get some more Prime Masters I'll show off something I've got in mind, assuming it will work. But that won't be until at least wave 2. Sorry for the tease.

Starscream gets his weapons.

Elita-1 gets Starscream's weapons.

Inferno shouldn't really count as he's an import from an older line (the head was suspected, but unused), and note that Starscream's weapons are rather small and don't combine like the CW weapons do, and Elita's are even smaller (FYI: Elita has parts switched out compared to Starscream, including the guns):



My guess is the Foot Armor is counted towards the plastic budget for the new molds, while Inferno gets lenience on his side due to being a "legacy mold" with hardly any tooling R&D, while Grimlock just misses out... along with Hun-Gurrr:

I'm not even sure one idea will work yet. Hopefully it won't be a long wait for wave 2. If it works it should look really cool and fit in nicely with what has in mind for line playability. If not I'll be very disappointed. So I am eagerly awaiting the opportunity to try it out. All I can say for certain is I need more Prime Masters to pull this off.

Back when Matchbox Voltron first came out as separate lion packs (I think Black Lion came alone and they sold the other 4 as 2 packs at the very beginning) the sword and shield were not included. Matchbox realized their mistake and sold the sword and shield in a separate package (which my friends and a family were unaware of so I never got that package but don't be sad because I did get one of the massive boxed sets with all the weapons for my birthday in '88 I think).

I bring this up because if the weapons inclusion or lack there of is tied to how they budget, wouldn't offering a special weapons pack for a character like Grimlock that included his G1 style sword and gun and the Volcanicus sword make the same sense as Matchbox selling Voltron's sword and shield initially as a separate weapons pack back in the day?

I could totally understand not wanting to sell a weapons upgrade in stores but this is where online exclusives with HTS and Amazon and maybe stores like BBTS (I don't know who would be best for both the states and international customers so please bear with me) would help us buy instead of third party releases for basic stuff.

Further more, could could also use this outlet to offer other options like much wanted alternate heads and the new matching hand and foot sets that could be used with CW gestalts. The market is there if they want to pounce on it, they just need to figure out the best outlet(s) to offer these upgrades instead of giving up and forcing us to buy from third parties when we could be supporting .

I think that would clash with the "we sell complete toys, not parts of toys" mentality they seemingly have. Does G.I. Joe even have weapon packs any more?

Or maybe accessory packs are more of a girly thing now...

I'm just offering a previously successful solution.

And I'd like to add to that.

I've noticed that there are 3 different PotP combiner feet and hands. So going with what I know, what if Hasbro offered sets of pairs of hands and feet so we can use incorporate them into CW combiners. They could offer a pair (set) of PA feet and hands that come with the Dinobots (those are the hands with the spikes), a set of PA feet and hands that come with Starscream/Elita-1 and Jazz that look like boosters. And they could offer the version that comes with Hun-Gurr and Inferno with the the ones that come with Dreadwind and Blackwing. All in black to keep it simple for matching any combiner and maybe the piece that fills in the hand can be clear plastic.

I see nothing wrong with an accessory set that would allow me to give Superion Prime Masters, I think that would be awesome and I would gladly purchase the set made from the Starscream feet and Jazz hands (no pun intended). If I had Defensor I'd want the feet set that comes with Inferno and the hands that come with Dreadwind and Blackwing. If I had Brutics I'd want the Dinobot style set.

I think this is a great money maker, and considering how the hands can act as heel spurs as well it gives options that allow for continuing to use the HFG's as hands or maybe someone buys two sets to have one set for the complete feet and one set for complete hands.

Or could sell the set as 2 feet and 4 hands.

I can't be the only person interested in this who cannot afford third party solutions for everything (or wants to). I'd rather support as much as possible.

Also, I suggest making this an online thing because we don't want accessories on the the shelves.

Truth is I need hand packs more than feet packs, so that's where my primary purchase would probably be. If realized the potential gold mine here.

As someone who has Grimlock I can say with certainty his Prime Armor feet are not weapons by themselves. Other figures must be purchased to turn them into armor that can hold legitimate weapons.

I love that sword and shield but I don't know if the shield can peg in anywhere (except using the back of the gauntlet) and the sword would have to be held width-wise instead edgewise because of how little room there is between Grimlock's fist hole and his dino feet. I could be wrong if the sword handle is long enough.

I looked up a review and the handle is longer than shown, plus the Shield can be held vertically. The stock photo use the post for vehicle mode.

You know, they swing and miss on things so much that I’d argue they don’t even have a “we sell complete toys” mentality. They can really do an amazing job on some things while others, it seems they mail it in. No thoughts to posability let alone even being able to stand up due to being way to top heavy. You could call that a “collector’s gripe” but I think it relates to kids who get the toys as well. The Grimlock figure itself is nice enough but the chest can’t even stay snugly together in Dino mode. And I don’t think it’s a QC issue. It’s like they just didn’t care. The weapons not being present are an afterthought for me. It really does make me wonder what goes through the mind of the development team at times.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not wholly displeased with the figure. It’s just like the things they decide to skimp on never make much sense.

You may have overlooked something here: there are tabs on the outer thighs that tab into slots on the inside of the chest pieces. If not tabbed in correctly, those tabs can easily push the chest halves apart. The clear plastic makes me weary of tabbing them in too tightly tho...

JelZe, as an MLP collector I can say that Hasbro isn't offering accessory packs in their girl-targeted lines these days either. Which is rather annoying considering how much the accompanying fiction features different outfits and whatnot.

That being said, flat-out accessory packs from Hasbro would be nice, and be able to cover ground stuff like Prime Masters & their predecessor separate-sale Titan Masters can't. Perhaps we should all make our desire for such known via letters and/or the contact form on their website.

I totally get what you're saying. That's why I can't wait for the wave 2 Prime Masters. And I'm really hoping in wave 3 that the Bludgeon decoy armor turns into a sword. My plan is to place the PM's into the gauntlets and tab the decoy armors in weapons mode into the rear post of the gauntlets. And I think that's a great idea and I'm loving what can be done with this line. But it's still not a substitute for Grimlock's sword and iconic double barreled blaster and a larger version of FoC Grimlock's sword for Volcanicus (or for Grimlock's sword to be able to extend into a larger sword for combined mode).

As for the accessory pack idea, I'm going to start a new thread to ask the greater community about that and hope that we get positive responses and is paying attention.

A lack of weapons is the absolute least of the problems for this figure.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I love this figure. It's not perfect but it gets the job done and has a bonus feature. And I think did this considerably better than the 3rd parties who attempted it.
