Seriously, your dexterity can only get you so far. Then it's all about technics and most of all patience and practice. No one is born Michaelangelo. (Not even Michaelangelo himself)
In my humble opinion, I think the things that matters most past stick men (what I call natural drawing talent) is either your capacity to understand light or your capacity to visualise things in 3D. If you don't have either, you'll probably get stuck copying other people's work. Dexterity and patience usualy comes with age and practice.
But one thing is for sure. No one will learn to draw by whining he can't draw. Ear your skills and start drawing.
This is not aimed at anyone in particular. I just saw a good opportunity to complain and teach what I know to anyone who will read what I have in mind.
Couldn't agree more. You do need to practice alot. Copying other's work is a good way to practice. But after, you do have to move on to your own style. We all have our own style, and it doesn't matter if its looking incredible or just okay. Just look at south park or the simpsons for example. Is the art incredible and all? No. Its pretty basic. A kid can draw that no problem. But its still a style of its own and that what's, in the end, make it look awesome.
Just look at Grimsqueaquer. He's now a legend in the art thread thanks to his style. Its not oustandingly great looking. Lets just say its not like some digital paintings with all the lighting, details and all. But its really eye catching, and the cartoony style fits perfectly.
Its really some great practice for him, he's able to work on his style and you can see that he's getting better. Just compare the first ones with the last ones to see the evolution.
This can apply to everyone. Even if your art is not the most impressive one, your style might just be what you really need in the end. And one more thing guys, NEVER, EVER compare yourself to others. NEVER! Its really the worst thing you can do. Your style, with practice, will make your art look great.
And Evank_Horizon, that's one kick ass piece of robot you did there. Really awesome.

Freaking... AWESOME!!!
Fury wrote:Indeed, pixel art and compression are not the best of friends. But you can still post a jpg version of a pixel art and set the quality of the jpg to maximum to have something that will still look pretty nice. If not just as nice as a png file. Few if not any details are gonna be lost then.

Siren Prime wrote:Auto Bot wrote:What's a noob?
A person who's new to something.
Two ways of spelling it... Newb or Noob.
Actually though one of my friends told me that there's a difference. A Newb is a new person. A Noob is an idiot.
I can be both at times...
