Rly? arent tey just inside of his chest or his back?
What I figured, (and was really weird) is the idea of the heads of the transformers next to the seats of their altmodes.. (that was in robots in disguise) it kind of freaked me out.. I don't know.. I did not like it, looked kind of strange.

I know, I know.. nothing to with the subject.. but, it popped into my mind.. :)

Like their weapons, I'm thinking the interiors either morph into something else, or are well hidden and disassembled.

yeah but the mass shifting isnt nearly as bad as in g1 with the whole contructicons forming devastator while INSIDE of astortrain and the whole skyfire and omega supreme and everytime soundwave, blaster, reflector, and perceptor transformed

I agree. When I was a kid even I was like Huh? How does soundwave or megatron turn into a thirty some foot robot and then turn back into something that could be held in someones hand? I can still get that feeling from the new transformations but not nearly as bad. I am still impressed by how they designed the robots to transform using 3-D models with thousands of parts, I have had some computer animation classes before and that SH*T isnt easy. They must have had some mechanical engineers come into ILM and break it down for them. All in all I think its pretty realisitc.

its really not that bad i guess but it still somewhat bothers me with the mass shifting. they kind of have to do it though or else they wont be big at all really.

Another reason why I don't like the movie approach - The Transformations aren't decipherable. Takes a lot of the a-ha effect out of it.

That I have to agree, the Transformers in the movie, some of them Transform into massive robots but in alt mode, they are so much smaller, guess it is because sometimes they stretch out

the parts from robotmode condense into the alt mode. Each piece is designed perfectly with an alien sophistication.

Thats the answer.

Thats why they appear to mass-shift.

Example of this would be the little parts that make up OP's head. even his head which is relatively small separates during the transformation to alt mode, and presumably folds very intricately inside the volume of the truck. I figure the seats must do the same thing when transforming to truck mode.

Just because we can't see it happen, doesn't mean its faked.

am I the only one that didn't care that some huge super hi-tech alien robots that can transform turned into small things like a gun or tape players? when I was a kid i didnt care. now that I'm older, I still dont care. Their technology is way belond ours so I'm not surprised they could do stuff like that. The only thing I've found that's weird is Galvatron trying to strangle Hot rod.

Pretty much my thoughts. If you can accept that sentient, transforming robots, hailing from planet "Cybertron", were waging war against one another in some desert, then surely them being able to "mass shift", and alter their sizes at will wasn't as tricky of a concept to understand. Didn't bother me 15 plus odd years ago, doesn't bother me now.

Here's something that's also weird: did you know that there's no sound in space? So what the hell is with all those sound effects happening during space scenes in movies?? It's outrageous!!

About time someone on this side of the forum mentions that "Devastator inside AstroTrain" thing. Me and my brothers still laugh at that scene because we've watched the S1, S2 cartoons and you see Devastator as some huge azz robot. And....inside AstroTrain? Remember in the movie when (Soundwave?) carried Megatron into AstroTrain? Barely enough room to fit him in sideways...

That's what I liked about the cartoons/animated movie, it wasn't supposed to make sense. But this is a live action movie and to me it's quite believeable.

We're talking alien technology here. How do we know it isn't possible to do exactly that? This sort of crud could be perfectly doable for all we know.
Life can be pretty sweet when your alt-mode is a B-2 Stealth Bomber.

I guess the movie use mass-shiting, but only for the interior part. It use it, but its very subtle to me.

Concerning mass shifting. I figured Transformers knew how to do that and did it whenever... to a point. There's obviously a limit to how much they can shrink or grow...

It isn't about making sense really. It's all about having lazy animators that don't pay attention to details like that. (for example the numerous colouring errors throughout the whole serie). A lot of animes show they can make animated movies without such errors. It was just plain sloppy.

It's a shame they told us they wanted this movie to be 'realistic' but then went with science fiction mumble jumbo in the end anyway. They might as well could have gone with mass shifting from the start.

I still am not convinced that they mass-shift.

The designs are detailed enough to show an immense amount of care went into them. They are designed to condense from thousands of little parts.

Most of you are failing to give in to the fact that we just can't fully see the complexity of the transformations. And it would probably be less cool if we could.
