I *think* it was a bug from one of the Beast Wars. I also think it was quite large for an "action figure". I remember an insect-type face, a heat-sensitive sticker on the chest area, and possibly the fact that it shot sparks like the old Godzilla toys.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

None of the Beast Wars toys shot sparks. You might be thinking of one of the Monsterbots from G1 ('87, I think?). Probably Repugnus from the "insect-type face" thing.
