Hehe, nice vid. He makes a lot of solid points. I'm a fan of the toyline for the most part but I definitely agree with comments like the colour repetition in some of the figures. Sideswipe and Sideways for example. I also agree on the point of characters of little importance or who didn't even showing up in the movie being made into toys.

Sounds like a geewuner whining about the designs aesthetics rather than the toys themselves.

I agree, I can't really deny the fact that he made some but not all good points about the ROTF toys. I find the part where he mentions being friend with Michael Bay will prob get him blown up part pretty funny.

Ultimately, the video was an entertainment piece. To be honest, a lot of video reviewers for Transformers waffle about a bit and often put out entertainment pieces than strict reviews.

To be fair, I believe the guy said right off the bat that he was just going to go on about his opinions on some movie line toys as someone who didn't enjoy the movie and he didn't have a problem with people who did enjoy the movie. He also mentioned a few times during the review that he was saying certain things just to be an ass/picking on something.

I think the fact that he suggested RotF Deluxe Wheelie and liked the figure puts doubt on the guy being a strict Geewunner. He came off as someone who prefers more traditional Transformers designs. I think he made as many valid points as personal gripes during the video.

While he does go right to the point in this particular video, if you've checked out his other review videos they're pretty long. His other review videos even goes to the background and the voice actor of the character, which is pretty indepth imo. We need more collectors to listen to this guy and pick up the ROTF Wheelies off of the pegs. I'm currently waiting for those to go on clearance before picking one up.

I appreciate the formula in Transformers reviews where a character bio and background is included but to be honest, the only reviewer I can consistently stand to listen to is ExaggeratedElagy. No one comes close to him for eloquence of speech combined with passion for the character. Many others give great background spiels and have obvious passion but ExaggeratedElagy's delivery is second to none. He also can balance that part of the review with a critical analysis of the reviewed figure. A lot of Youtube reviewers can do one or two parts of a review well but I find ExaggeratedElagy executes his reviews on all fronts exceptionally well. Like some other exceptional orators, I could listen to ExaggeratedElagy read the phone book and still enjoy the experience.

There are quite a few RotF Deluxe figures I hope to get once a sale comes along. The Zellers sale I took advantage of to pick up HA BB and Activators Dirge excluded Deluxe class figures, unfortunately. Or fortunately as I don't think I would have been able to fit anything more into my budget right now.

I need to check out this guy's video then, thanks for the suggestion. I know what you mean about lack of funds, I've been trying to get SG TFs through various options and it's gonna put a hit on me getting other TFs for a while if I go through with it.

Let me know what you think of ExaggeratedElegy. :) His reviews are of many different types of Transformers, though, I don't think he has ventured beyond the Classics line.

I've looked at a few SG figures and even my meager list of possible SG buys is going to hit hard on my budget.

damn! trash talk all round! i happen to like the ROTF toys! and the movie! but the thing about the sideswipes feet, they are kinda wonky, and the SS riding rampage was funny. good review. but rampage is not hard to stand, and the movie toys dont have to have a connection to G1, but it would be nice if they did. but that is my opinion i respect all others.

So he spent over $116 on toys just to see if he'd like them? More money than sense. What an idiot. He made me laugh but he's one of the least informed reviewers ever. Does EVERYTHING have to be a G1 homage?

I got the impression that a good part of his video was really for show. Aside from that, though, as someone who regularly watches Transformers video reviews, I see a lot of "fans" of Transformers who are in a love-hate relationship with their hobby. Just like a stereotypical comic book nerd(Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons), some people just "love to hate". Transformers has its "generation" disputes, comics have their Age disputes(Golden, Silver, Bronze, etc.).

Now I'm not saying people shouldn't be critical. Constructive criticism is a good thing. True constructive criticism shows an appreciation for the subject because one can't employ such criticism without intimate knowledge of the subject.

I'm just noticing that there are some collectors out there that get an unusual level enjoyment out of ranting on action figures or lines of toys or cartoons or comics or whatever. What's more, a lot of the rants are quite off base and pose opinions as fact.

For show? For sho'! Yes, I also felt he was just trying to be funny and it did make me laugh. I don't watch a great many reviews but all those I've seen gush over how great the figure is and seem to avoid the flaws so it was refreshing to hear complaints, even though they were mostly invalid. For example he slagged off SS for not resembling G1 SS when, as a toy reviewer he should have been commenting on it's accuracy to the CGI.

Yes, both gushers and ranters, for me, seem fairly common. I'm picky in terms of what I look for in critical reviews so I find there are only a couple of reviewers on Youtube I go to for reviews, others I go for entertainment.

To start off, and this may be strange to some, but I think barutazaru is a great Transformers reviewer. His reviews are highly entertaining but he manages to touch upon critical aspects of the figures. Not only that, he does so in usually a few(3-6) minutes. He's a combination of efficient reviewing and entertaining humour. The only reason I say it may be strange to some is that most probably associate barutazaru with entertainment and not necessarily reviews.

Peaugh is a good reviewer too, though, I view him strictly as a "show the figure and remark on a few things" type of reviewer. He doesn't really do a lot of critical assessment of figures. He shows the alt and bot modes, transformers them, shows accessories but he at least gives people a good idea of what to expect generally from a figure. He has a good video set up too, with nice lighting, clear video and audio, and his videos aren't usually too long, usually around the 8 minute mark.

ExaggeratedElegy is another favourite of mine. He does have critical assessment but bear in mind that he often reviews older generation figures like G1 and Beast Wars/Machines. He has reviewed some more current lines like Classics. He's the only reviewer that I enjoy hearing character bios from. He has an interest in the arts and is a writer. He's very well spoken, which is a great attribute in a medium that often involves addressing the viewers. I find that his creative background helps his reviews in that he has a more unique appreciation for aesthetics than most reviewers I've seen. He also has a passion for Transformers and while he is critical at times, he doesn't "love to hate" like others out there.

Vange1us is a fellow Canadian so I feel compelled to support him. But even if he wasn't, I find that his reviews are very entertaining and informative. He's similar to barutazaru in that he combines critical reviewing with a fun way of presenting his reviews. He does tend to have longer reviews, often 8+ minutes, but I don't mind it since he keeps me thoroughly entertained and informed. His reviews also come from more of a "critical geek" view. He comes from a "geek's geek" angle and can critique based upon his experience as a toy collector. He'll balance that with "but if you're not a die hard fan of this figure" suggestions as well. He won't normally crush or gush a figure, he'll often make consideration for both the hardcore and average collectors.

Zipdisk01 is someone I really enjoy watching as well. He has more of a straight forward review style but also has a "geek's perspective". He also has a background in other Japanese pop culture interests like other anime/manga so he brings that to the table.

Hucklebubba is a newer reviewer and doesn't have many reviews yet but I really enjoy his stuff. He's highly entertaining and is a solid reviewer.

Hmm, even though I said I prefer critical reviewers, my top reviewers are all entertaining to me. What I'll say for sure is that the common attribute these reviewers have is that the all can critique a figure with objectivity for the most part. Everyone has personal bias but these folks can usually separate their own opinion for a moment and also say that "if you're not a big fan of such-and-such, you may not like it as much".

I am critical on reviewers who aren't efficient with their time and who can't seem to speak well(mumble) and/or have organized thoughts when reviewing. I'm not a reviewer but I understand it can be a challenge to do a solid review so it's not like I'm saying "Oh, it's sooooo easy, anyone can do it better!". I'd like to throw my hat into video reviewing at some point in the future but I don't have a video camera and I'm afraid my web camera sucks.

im sorry but i gave this video another chance and i just cant do it, this is my opinion i respect all others! but why in the hell would he buy figures he did not like? i think that everyone looks at a figure b4 they buy it to make sure they like it. and why did he even see the damn movies? and if i recall correctly primus crated transformers in all universes and the movie is one of them. so sideswipe could look different in like 20 universes, and same with the other TFs he gave bad names. it is true that MB did some stupid stuff, but he made the TFs right or who ever the hell made them. he said that soundwave was nothing. bull ****. he was a communications officer and if not for soundwave megatron would not be found. and he transformed into a cybertronian satellite. nothing my ass. and sideways does look like and insecticon but not a bad figure, Bumblebee is overrated but is cool to some extent( i have 6 of the damn thing), and breakaway was in the movie, video game, one of my favorite ROTF buys. MY OPINION I RESPECT ALL OTHERS. Sorry if i make anyone mad.

I find it odd for people to buy something that they are very likely not going to like. It's seemingly apparent that the reviewer isn't a big fan of the live action movies, or at least the aesthetics. However, I know that there are collectors who will collect everything of a particular product line simply because among their goals is to have a complete collection.

However, the reviewer didn't buy a sealed cardboard box with no knowledge of what he was getting. The figures come in packaging that allows one to view the contents...no surprises in the appearance of the figures in whatever mode they're displayed in.

On the other hand, the review wasn't a totally serious one, it was a comedic jab at the movie line so it served its purpose. The reviewer wasn't taking himself totally seriously so I take what he said with a grain of salt.

Pretty much. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I've noticed that there are some collectors out there that seem to love hating things.
Toys for sale, S.H. Figuarts, Revoltech, Robot Damashii, Figma, and more!

Discounts for purchases of 3 items or more! See sales thread for details.
