How did you get into transformers?

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

About a year into G1 was when I started watching it. I think I was 5. My grandfather watched every episode with me, because he liked that Optimus sounded like John Wayne with a lot of reverb. We even saw the movie in '86 together right before he got really sick and never fully recovered. We used to run around the house playing Transformers with boxes on our heads and paper towel tubes for blasters.

So, yeah. It's more than just a cartoon and toys for me. Easily the happiest memories of my childhood stemmed from those G1 days.

How did I get into Transformers??

Weapon: Twin Independent Mounted Disruptor Rays
I got into TF's when I was 7 or 8. Came in on the ground floor, loved Voltron as well. I got out of TF's, and other toys for that matter, in Middle School when I got into sports and girls.

In college when you sit around a dorm room and talk making new friends you try to find common ground. Transformers was that for my generation. I got a job at a local comic store and they purchased and resold G1 TF's. Now this was when Beast Wars was hitting so TF's were back from the lull of the G2&Machine Wars days.

I've been an active collector ever since. I've been to every BotCon except one, when I went to the San Diego Comic Con, since 1999.

(Allthough I'm not into Star Trek and Dr. Who quite as much anymore) True Transformers is a cartoon but being a cartoon about alien robots it is still technically a sci-fi program.

My dad is highly into Star Trek mainly but he likes all sci-fi programming. I grew up watching TV with my dad and (unfortunatly because he'd never shut up) my brother. So basically everything I like today is all stuff I use to watch with my dad including Transformers. He doesn't watch them so much now though. He kinda stayed with the G1/BW/BM continuam. I don't really blame him, so do I, but I've actully watched alot of the newer series before I decided I don't like them.

As far as Star Trek goes, my dad, ask him any question about that series, he'll know it. He even seen the original Captain Pike episode before TOS was canceled for the first time and brought back with Captain Kirk. That's right, everyone thinks Kirk was the first captain of the Enterprise but he was just the replacement for Captain Christipher Pike.

Myself on the other hand, I mainly stay in the relm of TNG and DS9 allthough I have seen episodes of the others I never really got into them as much. TNG was the current series when I was little so I think that's why I kinda stick to the characters in it.

Well, I'm also a big fan of Star Trek TOS, and yes, I knew about Captain Pike. I discovered that show back in 1999, when I was 14. It's how I spent that summer, since I couldn't drive and had old neighbors. I also love DS9, been a fan for 10 years now.

I started watching Beast Wars in 1997. I don't remember much of the show, but I remember that I quite liked it. But I discovered Spiderman and Beast Wars was very quickly eclipsed by that show. I didn't get back into Transformers til the movie. Then I discovered G1, at the age of 22. Now I love Transformers...obviously.

I got into Transformers during the G1 era when I was a little kid. I would love watching them on TV with my brothers. I remember watching them get Transformers for gifts, but not me. (My Mom wanted a girly-girl)

Then one day I got my beloved Soundwave for Christmas. I was so happy. Still have him. I also got Ravage and I think Rumble. Later I got Skids. Then no more until I could buy them myself.

My interest in Transformers waned for a while, but no more! I have a lot of catching up to do. What's kind of funny is that I love Transformers while my hunband likes them, but not really loves them.

I still don't have many of them, but I'm building up my army. Oh yes. I am. Soon everyone will know why it is best to fear me!!!!! Or at least admire my Transformer collection.

How did you get into transformers?

I got into watching the 1st G1 series. 1st 3 eps: Neat insults the good and bad sides heaped upon each other and every one on Starscream. Megatron's nasty, funny whiny Starscream should stop trying to lead. The baddies could make energy into cubes that were my favorite color. The good guys should make sure the enemy were all dead. Episode 4: poor little good bot; somebody on the good side get the human kid out this mess; Soundwave's cool and cold. Episode 5: I liked Chip Chase very much, keep showing him. Episode 6: By it's conclusion was wildly cheering when the anyone who would challenge Megatron showed up.

I was hooked.
