How 'playable' is Leader Prime?

Postby Raymond101 » Sun Sep 02, 2007 2:48 am

I don't think he is very playable - very poseable, definitely. But in the end, his truck mode is largely static, and he only fires a projectile. I think he is better used as a poseable display (not meant in any bad way, I like Prime).

What do you think? There's clearly more playable Primes in the past. I'd even argue movie Voyager Prime is more playable.

How can one truck mode be more static then another truck mode? At least Leader has rubber tires and rolls worth a pooh.

I think leader does anything and everything as well or better then the voyager, including posing. And if I was going to smash bots together like a kid, I'd throw the heavy one around to get more effect.

What????? There be much playable goodness for Leader Prime. His eyes light up, and his boobies flash! What more do you want? :-P

With me being a geezer amoung ya'll, I don't play with my Transformers. They simply keep me company taking up desk and self space. Being a G1'er, I can tell you this, EVERY Cybertron, Classics, and Movie Transformer I have seen has a lot more playability (comparatively speaking only) than the stiff G1 toys. Many of them didn't have bending knees. Don't get me wrong, I had boatloads of fun, and found my G1 toys to have a LOT of playability when I was a little bugger, but we often didn't get the amount of posability, and perhaps even the durability of the more recent stuff. I still love my G1 figures though, despite their limits.

It isn't just the toy that determines the playability, it's also one's imagination.

he could be more playable if not for the dang wheelset hanging off his back legs. those kill his playability. i wish they'd latch on something else instead of flopping around - well, technically it doesn't, but my LC's got a bad wheelset on one backleg and it's loose in the joints, so it can't stay bended.

plus, some of the plastic are really scary, like the folding ones that form his engine hood cover and the feet. the feet are very, very dangerous. get a piece of debris inside there and kiss the automorph goodbye.

Cybertron Prime had a more playable truck/jetalt mode. And he had a super mode.

No hes very playable. I was bored so i played around wit the highway scene and made it better. Prime was very poseable and stayed together very well. I wasen't very rough though, sence i already have a small scratch on primes flame. I did rough around bones abit thank u hasbro for makin his head easly removable! p.s. if u take off primes gun and pull the slide the bottem part kinda looks like a blade so better than notta i guess :P

Yeah, and it was really really stupid looking too IMO. I'll take movie leader each and every time, "static" or not.

I think Leader Prime is very playable, unlike megatron and brawl, his head is more turnable.

He legs/feet are th most managable of the three.

His hands are actual hands with four moving fingers and thumbs.

And his rubber wheels make the toy move smoothly.

Brawl's head actually can turn the best. You just need to turn it harder sideway to go pass its 'collar'. It can tilt its head up a bit too, while Prime can't. But I agree with the rest you pointed out.

I'm Happy With My Voyager Prime. While The Backpack Just Looks Bad. The Rest Is Great. I Think Its A More Accurate Adaption Of Movie Prime and Love The Smoke Stack Weaponry.

Leader Prime Just Looks Bulky.

Anyone With Both Have A Preference?

In terms of playability, I find that Leader Prime is very good. It pose very well, stay balanced in almost all poses it can pull off (which is very rare in action figures especially this big), has a few gimmicks for you to mess with every now and then, sturdy construction overall with very nice spring ratchets to keep you worry free of loose joints fiddling with the guy too much. So in my book, his playability is very high (even better than MP Prime), mind you that I don't smash my robots against each other or make them fight. :P

Though if you are looking for boat load of shooting missiles, multiple chunky combination modes, additional mini cons and such, then yeah, Movie Leader Prime doesn't deliver on those. But you can also point out that most if not all of those other Primes don't do as well on qualities that Movie Leader Prime excels (things pointed above). So its more or less a trade off I guess. I would rather have the kind of 'playability' that Movie Leader Prime delivers.

he's poseable, but not very playable. just too bulky, and he's got the problems i mentioned in my earlier post. his playability turns down several notches when you have to watch out for his sensitive feet and the automorph in it. it's actually pretty scary to imagine all that bulk of his resting on those feet.

Not worried on the wheel flaps or the feet on mind. I even got a bunch of weathered paint build up inside the feet when I did my custom weathering, and still automorph just fine. Though I see your point.

The playability of all the movie figures is hampered by the poor production values and skitty parts hasbro has used.

If I was like 5-10 or whatnot, the biggest complaint about any of them causing me not to play with them would be the transformations. It takes me a good 3 minutes or more to transform Prime. That's the most hampering thing that'd bother me. If they are transformers, I'd want to transform them a lot. But since mine sit on a shelf til I feel like changing them back and forth, it's cool.

But somehow I see a very confused 5 year old staring at any of the movie toys, proceeded by the toy going through drywall.

3 minutes? wow that's fast. i can't get my LC prime to transform in less than 5 minutes or so. the most annoying thing for all the movie figs is transforming them back into their alit modes. this is where prime's a killer.

i think the movie line should not have been marketed for the kid's genre. they are just too complicated for kids to transform. this, combined with the less than stellar plastic used on most of the TFs, would result in a lot of 7-10 year olds frustrated and their movie toys destroyed.

by the way, don't get me wrong, i love the automorph feature in LC's feet, and when you get it spread out, it actually provides a very stable base for his body to stand on. but the two things that scare me on this is the ankle joint and the automorph itself. once that ankle joint gives, prime won't be able to stand anymore, given his upper-body bulk. and like i said earlier, once you get some sort of debris inside the feet, it may hinder it's automorphing ability.

plus, the wheel flaps man. wish hasbro/takara found a method to get them out of the way. it terribly hinders the poseability of the legs. too bad because the upper body can make some cool poses, even without waist articulation.

Playability might not be as good as Energon Prime (truck, bot, base, sounds, lights, super bot, combines with Wing Saber and Omega Sentinel) or Cybertron Prime (truck, jet, base, bot, super bot, combines with Wing Saber and Leobreaker), but Leader Prime is a much, much better design.

IMHO - flashing eyes and chest, wicked articulation, AND rubber tires. Happy camper, indeed.

2bad it can't fly like my Cybertron Prime and do all the other cool stuff, yet. But the rubber tires, i like very much. Must of rolled it back & forth more times than the Cybertron version already... And the diesel horn sounds pretty darn good.
