HUB resurrect Transformers Animated? Why not?

Postby jmf243 » Fri Jul 15, 2011 11:13 am

It has been done successfully with Family Guy and Futurama (on a new network even.) It exists in a continuity different from Prime so they wouldn't interfere with each other. There is no immediate movie on the horizon so the toy marketplace could handle the Animated toy line again. Hasbro, Let's Do This!!

Because Animated is partially owned by Cartoon Network. Hasbro broke ties with them to join up with Discovery. Hasbro can't show a program that's partially owned by a rival to their partner company on their channel.

Yes, what Sabreblade said coupled with the fact that at the end of the day, Hasbro is still a toy company. They can't/won't invest the funds to promote two toy lines with new shows. Prime is the new show with the potential profittable toy line. Animated is old, yesterday's model, ready for the scrap heap. All of the toys that need to be sold from the line have already been sold. Theres no potential profit to be made from reviving the series.

I loved Animated, so don't get me wrong. I'd love to see new episodes. I'd love to see new figures. I just understand why the show stopped and wasn't brought back. The expense of new episodes wasn't outweighed by the profit brought in from the new episodes. So there wasn't any.

Considering the expense of TF:Prime, the costs of the show will eventually have to be recovered by profits from a toy line. There just isn't enough money to produce two new shows and two new toylines at the same time. It has never been done before and it was for good reason. Its too expensive.

I'd rather the funds get invested into one show and good episodes and good figures are the result as opposed to splitting the funds and the shows and the figures suffer.

Forgotten about Rescue Bots have we now? That toyline is getting its own show too. So there will be two Transformers shows airing new episodes and selling new toys simultaneously. ;)

Actually no, I didn't forget about the Rescue Bots. I can honestly say that I haven't heard of a Rescue Bots show up until now.

However, while I suppose I have to admit that I stand corrected, I don't think that it quite counts as an investment into the Rescue Bots toyline doesn't quite represent the same involvement/risk as a full up new TF line.

Oh, well, in that case, here's some info about it:

Actually, I guess I stand corrected again. I did forget about the show because I DO remember reading that first linked article. I chalk it up to disinterest. No rescue bots will be gracing my collection and I doubt I'll be giving the episodes a view.

My opinion is that I don't consider this show or line to be a serious attempt at continueing the Transformers lineage. Its a ploy to get transformers in the hands of younger kids, which I admit will do its part to sustain transformers into the future. However, the ages on the box of the toys says ages 3-6 and in this case, I think its meant to be taken seriously.

Some older collectors/fans will be interested certainly. But I think the vast majority will not be. I don't expect the show to live that long. The toys will probably stick around a bit longer though.

I dunno. Could turn into another fad like My little Pony: Friendship is Magic, since that show targets about the same age range as Rescue Bots will (though, given the difference in gender, who knows). I guess we'll just wait and see.

On topic: I get this feeling that Hasbro saw Animated as nothing more than a filler series meant to by them time to come up what they saw as their primary goal for television: Prime. Which is sad to say since Animated was worlds better than Prime and far more enjoyable. That isn't to say that Prime isn't good too, it's just only average at the moment with only a handful of really good episodes. Whereas Animated was almost non-stop engagement and enjoyment.

HAHA! I'm afraid I know less about My Little Pony: Friendship is magic. And frankly, I'd like to keep it that way.

On topic: I can't say I agree with the thought that it was just a filler. Two reasons actually. #1 it was a very large line to be just a filler. #2 I doubt that Hasbro was looking far enough down the road to consider Prime in the equation. If they were, I don't think they would have partnered with Cartoon Network to get the show off the ground. I will not pretend or let on that I know the specifics of the Hasbro/Cartoon network deal. But I'm going to assume that the deal could prove to be quite restrictive down the road from TF:A had Hasbro decided to do anything else with the brand. Especially if they were eyeing their own network at the time. Which I don't think they were either.

I believe TF:A was meant to sustain the name Transformers until ROTF came to fruition and those toys would then take over, just as DOTM has taken over now for the Gen/RTS line. But I wouldn't call it a filler. I would say a flagship of the time. It was severely underated due to the art direction, which is too bad. The show and the toys were pretty phenomenal and I would have enjoyed seeing where the future episodes would have gone after the final battle and the capture of the decepticons.

I do think that TF:Prime toys will become the flagship after DOTM runs its course, however due to the timing of the HUB hitting airwaves the cycle is thrown off. Hasbro needed a flagship show to gets its network off the ground immediately and TF:Prime is supposed to be that show. Unfortunately, the timing is off from the current rotation of toys. Gen/RTS was wrapping up and DOTM was coming fast. Prime toys were the odd man out. I wonder if this off-timing won't have a negative impact on the show and/or the toys down the road.

However, as much as I'd love to see it. I don't think an early death of Prime will open the doors for a TF:A return.

RiD was seen as a filler line and yet it had pretty big toyline too.

And, the development for Prime had first begun shortly after the 2007 movie was released.

The current plan is to run the Aligned continuity of Prime/WFC/Exodus/Exiles/MMOPRGs for the next seven years to a decade.
