So who do you believe does the best rendition of Megatron?

Weaving as a G1 megatron would be silly.

Welker as a movie megatron isn't my cup of tea.

p.s. what about david kaye?

I like both voices, but it's not really a contest at all because Megatron in the series and Megatron in the movie are two different characters. In the series he's a schemer, a plotter and relishes in even small victories against anyone who defies him. He likes power but is patient about getting it. A leader through discipline.

In the movie he's this bigger-than-life juggernaut that will crush anything and anyone to acheive his means. He's ruthless, impulsive and self-righteous. He believes in himself and nothing else. He's not a leader but a commander thru brute force.

Each voice fits the character and also the context, Welker's voice would have never worked on the film, it's too cartoony. Weaving's lines were the most memorable, the second time I saw the movie I was mouthing them all.

BW Megatron was such a cool character and the voice was a big part of that. Among the three I'd choose Kaye, cause he was able to module more and added more moods.

As has been said elsewhere, each actor was appropriate for their medium.

But that raspy Megs Welker pulls off is so memorable

Weaving is THE MAN. It was genius to cast him as Megatron, and a total waste of talent to kill off his character. I want to see Megatron resurrected in the sequel just so Weaving can voice him again.

I guess I'm the only one who finds Welker's Megatron annoying, and Kaye's Megatron is so much a different character that he's not even part of the equation.

Welker for me, that voice makes the character seem so much creepier over Weavings voice. It was so distorted that you couldn't even tell it was Weaving in the first place.

Kaye would rock in a role, though I think he's more refined. It would be hard to see him as this version of Megatron. Someone should take some of Kaye's lines and set it to Megs in the movie and see how it looks and sounds.

i wasnt too fond of weaving at all i actually think the worst rendition out of all the megatrons so far and welker's is just so damn classic then next would b the BW megatron voice Kaye rlly nailed that

As much as I love Welker's megatron, Weaving's was very good too. Both fitted each character's potrayal.

Welker will always be Megatron to me with Kaye close behind, but that haveing been said, neither of them I feel could have delivered the pure awesomeness that Weaving pulled off!

If I had to choose between Mr. Welker and Mr. Weaving, then Mr. Weaving would definitely rock; I liked his rendition of Megatron so much better than G1 Megatron. Regarding Mr. Kaye's performance, I would have to say that his version of Megatron was my favorite in any Transformers series (by version I mean BW Megatron; the Armada trilogy Megatron had his voice, but it just wasn't the same.).

Welker by far.

Welker had that raspy voice that made him seem like he'd come through so many wars before...powerful, manicial, underhanded.....contained power waiting to be unleashed.

Weaving made Megs sound like he was Agent Smith in a metal suit. & his "Is it courage or fear that drives you?" line sounds like it was ripped straight from the Matrix where Smith was talking to Neo about the reasoning behind Neo's motives.

Welker is G1 Megatron, the guy who came up with crazy plans, before declaring a retreat.
Kaye is Megatron as well, but more of a planning conniving Megatron.

I'm sure both Welker and Kaye would have done good work, but there was something extra that Weaving brought to the role.

Weaving proved his chameleon like acting ability with his voice work in Transformers, he delivered everything that was expected of Movie Megatron. I'd be more than happy to hear his return for future movies.

Weaving worked for the movie, Welker wouldn't have.
And vice-versa.
Weaving would not have worked for the cartoon.

But if you're going to have an evil regal-like Megatron, David Kaye is your man.

Nemesis Cyberplex, I agree with you about the Agent smith thing. You could hardly tell that was weaving, and if not for the fact that I knew already then I would have been like "Oookay they got who to do his voice?" becuase honestly there's nothing distict about it compared to Cullans Prime. Welker and Cullen, set it up that all other voices in G1 and subsequently all other TF shows HAD to stand out on their own. Especially those that worked close with Prime and Megatron. If not then they would be lost in the sheer awesomeness of both characters voices.

Gives me more creeps to hear Welker then to hear Weavings Smith voice, which I've grown to associate more with his character from Lord of the Rings.

I don't know Burn, I just think that Welkers voice could have easily been made slightly deeper. As I said he's done really deep voices like in Aladdin and in the game he manages to pull off one nasty version of Megatron. I don't see why they didn't at least give him a chance.

Cullan only got the part probably because Dreamworks knew that people would skin them alive if they didn't pick him. I heard that they were considering haveing Gary Oldman or James Earl Jones reading Prime. Don't know who else additioned for it.

Eh, sorry, actually. Perhaps if I hadn't heard that line so many times before. & from a quality standpoint, it was recorded 20+ years ago. so it's kinda hard to compare just on that point alone.

However, I've played the game through several times, & Welker's lines on it fit perfectly. If you have any clips to show, stuff from the game would be what needs to be shown for comparison. (I'm kinda pressed for time right now, so I really can't look myself.).

They should have used Welker for the movie. You didn't know it was Weavings voice anyway because it was so contorted. They could have made Welkers voice a bit deeper (just as they did with weaving in the movie) and we would have gotten goosebumps when Megatron first spoke as well as when you first heard Cullens voice. But instead we get to get goosebumps when we first hear Cullen and when we hear Megatron, well...... Weavings voice sounds like the other decepticons. It really doesn't stand out. Welkers voice would have made people say, THAT is Megatron.
