Animals don't need human contact to be vicious. Again I point you towards the food chain. A lion doesn't kill and devour a gazelle because a human taught it to.
Maxima wrote:Absolute harassment is what I say happened to ye, lass. That woman was picking a fight and being abusive about it.
Pit Bulls are not mean and vicious. Animals are mean and vicious ONLY by negative human contact. Gorgeous Pit Bull at the local shelter here and she's the most well behaved, submissive and gentle dog there.
So, I'm with ye, MegsLady. Pit Bulls have been placed in an unnecessary spotlight.

Well, not for your dad, but I like a spunky dog.
When a dog bites someone, it is not awesome. Especially when that dog acts like it's prepared to do it again, which, from what I understand from that story, it was.
Autobot032 wrote:I agree that it is the fault of the owner, mostly, but there are times when an animal just has a willpower that is unstoppable.
If you honestly think an animal isn't smart enough to kill on it's own without human interaction causing it...you're sadly mistaken and wrong.
We had a Beagle when I was a kid. He loved me to pieces and I him. I was sitting on the front porch, doing nothing but playing with a TF. No noises, no sudden moves, and Buddy just snapped loose, jumped up, bit me on the scalp and pulled me down off of the step and through the front yard.
If my Dad hadn't grabbed the shovel to beat Buddy off of me, that dog would've killed me.
And before you even say it (because some of you just can't admit it) there was no provocation, there was no ill treatment of the dog, the dog was fully housebroken, trained to do tricks, etc.
Once he tasted my blood, he was addicted. The animal shelter had to put him down, he was too dangerous to keep, and when they were done, they said there was nothing wrong with him physically, and that sometimes animals do just snap.
I still have indentations on my scalp where his teeth went in. I can feel them when I run my fingers through my hair.
Does any of this mean the animals should be vilified? Of course not, but don't lull yourself into a false sense of security around your animal. Never turn your back on a creature that has a killing instinct bred in it as a part of nature.
Same can be said for humans.
Let's flip it around for a moment. My grandfather was given a kitten as a present a few months back. Phantom (named for her Calico coloring covering half of her face) loves him to pieces, he can do no wrong in her eyes. But, she's SO vicious with everyone else, that the vet recommended that her claws be removed. She was injuring people, damaging furniture, and since she's an inside, domesticated cat who won't be outside and doesn't need to worry about fighting or killing other animals, it was either that or put her down. And yes, she's fully trained, had her shots, fixed, etc.
The cat has learned "I don't have any claws, so I'll bite you now." and of course that cannot be corrected like the claws, nor should it be. No one should be that cruel. The cat has serious problems, and even the vet can't pinpoint what's going on.
On the flipside, I have a 12 year old Pekingese, a 1.5 year old Persian, and 7-8 month old Tabby. All are genuinely calm, loving, affectionate, creatures. Who act more and more human everyday. (The cats are especially amazing. Their abilities are just incredible. So smart, so funny.)
I love animals, I'm a supporter of their rights, but even I know that there's a dangerous side to these animals and wouldn't trust them completely, with my life. You should always have an open mind to the possibility that your pet can turn against you at a moment's notice.
Most times it's due to provocation, but do you really want to turn a blind eye to the potential danger of said animal?
I surely hope not.Shadowman wrote:Siren Prime wrote:Hahaha!! Awesome...

Wow, for once we're in total agreement.
And you're right, it's not awesome. I'd say it's absolutely STUPID to find something like that to be even remotely enjoyable.
No one should ever have to be afraid of their loved ones (that includes pets) in their own home. No one.

I don't depend on the news to tell me wtf is going on, most of the news is media fed bull anyways. did you know most "pit bulls" on the news are labs or mastiff types or other bull dog types, some are even hound breeds. I've done my research for years, pit bulls are very difficult to train i do admit, but realise this, THEY ARE TERRIERS!!!! A terrier is very hyper and no matter the size they are strong. Pit bulls do not have "lock jaws" that was proven in a study in a Georgia University besides, if the jaws locked, like tetanus disease, they WOULD NEVER OPEN AGAIN! A bite is measured by weight, they will not ever lock! There are some rumors that this breed "snaps" they are "unpredictable" to some i guess, no, bad owners are the result of a bad dog, dogs learn behavior from thier owners, also beating a dog can make the dog fight back, if you dont fix your dog even if a human female is in her menstrual period it can make the dog believe she is in "heat" and will make the dog far more protective at the time. Leaving a dog in a yard, ignoring it can make the dog protective of it's territory and can innitiate attack if someone gets close to the yard, loving the dog too much can make a dog feel like it is head of the home and if another member of the family tries to "rise above" the dog, just like a wolf pack, the dog will attack whom ever he thinks is below him. Pit bulls were bred to protect homes and this is one thing people need to get straight, PIT BULLS WERE TRAINED TO FIGHT AND KILL OTHER DOGS, NOT PEOPLE IF A PIT BULL IN A RING BIT A HUMN HE WAS IMMEDIATLY PUT DOWN!!!! Pit bulls were at one time America's #1 dog in the late 19th and 20th century, now look at what we as people have done to the breed. Now we have to fight stupid laws just to keep our dogs. I have been bitten by small dogs and i've been attacked by 2 golden retrievers, NEVER BEEN ATTACKED BY A PIT BULL, i was raised around pit bulls. So yeh i'll defend them and every other "so-called-mean-breed" out there. Please don't believe the news in fact, when you see a report on the news call them and ask them why is that news and why isn't a golden retriever attack news as well, I was met with a "its not news" when i told them about my incident.
I don't think goldens are vicious and they should die, i would consider getting one but i'll be breeding pit bulls so i kinda can't lol.

If it wasn't for your stats, I'd swear you were my former neighbor. Couple of months ago her pit mix attacked not one but two of neighbors dogs. The last dog she attacked was a chicauau (or however you spell it) of a friends causing over $400 in vet bills. Of course the stupidass chiwawa (I'll spell it like it sounds) did run up barking in the pits face (the chiwawa should have been on a lease). Anyway a few of the people in my apartment complex was upset by this. (All the apartments around here are 1 bedroom and I personally feel that is too small for any animal over 60 pounds) I told my mom about this and when she visited a few weeks later she saw the girl walking the pit and told her that the dog was "vicious" and had it attacked her dog she would've shot it.
I found this embarrassing because my mom doesn't live in my Apartment complex or even in the same city as me. It was really none of her business because it wasn't her dog.
Even though I was embarrased by this and probably should have apolozied to the girl for my moms behavior (I can't now cause she moved) I do feel that pits can be vicious. But I also agree that how they are raised have alot to do with it. I still feel that no animal over 60 pounds should be stuck in a one-bedroom apartment. That's borderline cruelty.

As long as no laws were broken (some communities have anti-pit laws), then Megatronslady420 was completely in the free and clear and the woman getting in her face is borderline harassment.
I'm almost 100% certain if she had called a cop and told them what this woman pulled...they'd have sided with 420.
You can't just get in someone's face like that and start pointing fingers, especially when nothing's happened.
If anything, the cops might've gotten the woman for provoking 420's dog, had it become angry and wanted to attack.
