IDW's November Solicitations
Comics Continuum has posted IDW's solicitations for November. Here is what we can expect to see:
THE TRANSFORMERS SPOTLIGHT: RAMJET
Written by Stuart Moore, art by Robby Russo, covers by Guido Guidi and Musso.
Spinning out of the hit miniseries New Avengers/Transformers! Meet Ramjet, a lone wolf Decepticon whose plans involve nothing less than the overthrow of Megatron himself! But is Ramjet the master schemer he believes, or just another pretender to the throne?
THE TRANSFORMERS: DEVASTATION #3
Written by Simon Furman, art by E.J. Su, covers by Su and Nick Roche.
If you thought "Doc" Ratchet got off lightly last issueŠ think again! He's out on his own, on the run (with Verity and Jimmy to protect) and he's got Decepticon living weapon Sixshot on his case. Sounds distinctly terminal to us! Plus, more action and carnage from the Headmasters, more on the fate/destiny of Hunter/Sunstreaker and the Reapers make their move!
TRANSFORMERS: BEAST WARS: THE ASCENDING #4
Written by Simon Furman, art by Don Figueroa, covers by Figueroa and Nick Roche.
The staggering conclusion! A last, desperate gambit, devised by Magmatron and enacted by The Pack and Ravage, is played out on Cybertron, but can anything now stop the ascension of the Nemesis and the terrifying, apocalyptic repercussions thereof? And on Earth, Razorbeasts's fate is sealed, and his destiny will forever shape the course of the Beast Wars! By the Transformers: Stormbringer team of Simon Furman and Don Figueroa.
THE TRANSFORMERS: BEST OF THE UK: DINOBOTS #3
Written by Simon Furman, art by Will Simpson, Barry Kitson and Tim Perkins, covers by Nick Roche, Retro Art.
The Autobots continue the Dino Hunt! Prowl and Optimus Prime monitor the teams under the command of Soundwave and Sideswipe as they attempt to round up the rampaging Dinobots -- including Grimlock. After the dust settles who will have the advantage -- the Autobots or the Decepticons? Nick Roche once again provides an all-new cover re-creating a classic scene from the issue!

Some good stuff here.
Ramjet being somewhat of a Starscream 2.0 is an interesting twist, wonder if Megatron will go as lightly on him as he did with Screamer.
And poor Ratchet, he can never catch a break.

Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

I never saw RamJet as a userper.
Then again I never saw him as a being content to be fodder either.
I just always figured he was a good old fasion sadist who found his calling.

I've got two things to say about this. First off, whose bright idea was it to canonize that story within the context of the larger IDW verse. I had been willing to buy their excuse that it's of murky canon, with it not really taking place unless one wanted to.
Well, I for one don't consider it canon, which leads me to my next problem: whose bright idea was it to write a frakin' Spotlight issue involving the only character from that series who didn't appear before, and is not going to be appearing after?
*le sigh* I'll still buy it, but if they really think I'm gonna buy that stupid x-over, or even begin to think of it as canon, IDW's got another thing coming.

I don't wanna start a war, this is just my opinion here, but you know, these are just stories about characters. You just gotta take it for what it is. I've noticed alot of IDWs stuff trying to please past continums while elaborating said stories into there own. Any running theme franchise has to do that, less fall by the wayside.
But still, these are only stories, which I may say are much better than anything TV has to offer in the way of TFs.
Not for anything with all the different "TF Universes" I have to ask, is there such a thing as cannon here anymore?
Anytime someone has half an idea anymore, it seems right away that "a retelling" is going on!
So basicly, for me, I have my collection, which has it's own ongoing and branching story that started when I began collecting again.
As for anything else, print, TV, or film, at this point they are nothing more than stories, (hopefuly) entertainment based on familiar characters. I stopped hoping for continuity long ago, but am happy when I see it.
In short, take what you want, and count on yourself to make sense of the rest, it's the only way I can make sense of having countless figures based on only a handful of characters.

Oh hum, another schemer and would-be usuper. Jesus, I'm sticking to my theory that they threw darts at a board to see who gets the next spotlight, with then added said name to script. If they were going to do this idea, they could have at least made it Starscream.
Ramjet...what a friggin' waste...

Well the Decepticons are Decepticons for a reason. They want and lust for some kind of power.
Ramjet was not a well developed character before, so why not? Maybe he's got Starscream's ghost in him or something.

No StarScream Ghost, it's been done to death.
I can sympathise with the idea of Decepticons wanting power.
Hell, anyone in anyposition wants to move up one! Weither it be officer looking for Detective of fry cook looking at shift manager. That's just generic nature.
Now I could see RamJet looking to outshine another Seeker or high ranking Con. But MEGATRON!?!
That takes some Brass(which maybe be was built with, I dont know)!
Still, I like some of the B characters getting a chance in the spotlight(no pun intended). Whenever I here that they wanna do Prime or any of the other bots that are naturaly going to get alot of coverage, I tune out.
I like the idea of tieing these stories into other stories, but a SpotLight continum to me is something I just don't think is needed.
One shots are fun ecause they are just that.

honestly, there's really no references to the marvel crossover in the Ramjet comic. its just a spotlight that has him in it [who just so happened to have been introduced in the marvel books]
but its not essential to read the marvel stuff to read the ramjet spotlight. you can not consider the marvel stuff canon and get by just fine

Righteous. The ONLY reason I don't want those books canon is because they involve superheroes in a world otherwise bereft of them and those heroes would never show up again in all likeliness (as the books don't appear to be canon for Marvel).

Intercompany crossovers rarely, if ever, are ever counted in continuity with Marvel. As a matter of fact, I can't think of a single one off the top of my head.
What's funny is that even the Malibu stuff, which is owned by Marvel, has been all but ignored.

I can. The original TF/GI. Joe X-over was mentioned several times in the ongoing series, even though it eventually fell out of canon. The five issues of GI Joe that lead into G2, however, are canon in that they lead into G2.

If there's no references to it, and if its not essential to read it, why pimp it as if both of those are true?

Heh, good try. At the time, both G.I.Joe and Transformers were licensed through Marvel. So therefore, it wasn't an intercompany crossover. Intercompany crossovers are stuff like, Witchblade vs. Wolverine, or Superman vs. the Hulk, or the Marvel vs. DC.
And while G.I.Joe: America's Elite still possesses the same continuity as the Marvel stuff, they can no longer refer to those events since they don't retain the licence for Transformers. It's just simply ignored.

I agree. But reading some folks' posts, I realize that sometimes there's just no pleasing some people. If they try something new with a character, then people say that it doesn't follow closely enough with the tech-spec (or that the character didn't need a change). If they try to follow certain "canon" elements, then they say that it's old hat, been done before and complain about a lack of originality. With the spotlights, it's been particularly interesting. Some folks don't like when we get a random Ramjet Spotlight, while others would've probably not liked it if it had been a Starscream Spotlight, citing that there are far too many characters in the universe to focus on the same ones. It's just a tough spot to be in, no matter who has the license.

A spotlight on Sixshot, I can see. A spotlight on Ramjet...ehhhhh. And then making him a third generation Starscream knockoff...ehhhhhh. It's not making me want to pick up the title. And just because it's Transformers isn't enough to make me want to do that anymore.
