...what would you do?
Most of you have pondered about this, and quite a number of you have actually drawn out a number of continuities.
Here's my idea:
Transformers: The Last Great War
It would basicly be what Furman tried to do with IDW, but All Hail Megatron kinda flushed it all down the toilet.
At any rate I'd borrow a ton of characters from pre-existing stories. I'd also tell a story that has a beginning and a end. We don't just keep on going til cancellation.
The story would be split up into multiple chapters, each chapter has sidestories that will carry over in the chapters that follow up. There's also a large cast available, we'll have a core cast and the soldiers in the field.
Here's my idea for the main story:
Chapter 1: War on Cybertron- This chapter will start shortly before the war begins.
- We get to see how Megatron eventually led a revolution against the oppressive goverment and become corrupted as he gained power himself.
- Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus will feature heavily, their rise to power will be chronicled.
- Megatron innitially gained his followers through pitfighting and other arena matches. He nearly got Grimlock and Sunstreaker to follow him. Grimlock left for his own reasons. Sunstreaker was convinced by Sideswipe to join the Autobots.
- The invention of triplechangers and gestalts will be shown.
- Optimus Prime becomes a Prime near the end of the chapter. We'll actually get to see Sentinel Prime do his thing before Megatron wastes him.
- Like in the War for Cybertron game, Cybertron's core will be shut down for millions of years, thus leaving Cybertron uninhabitable.
- The launch of the Ark closes this chapter.
Chapter 2: War on Earth- We fast forward millions of years, the Autobots and Decepticons are fighting all over the universe. Normally the Decepticons infiltrate a world and destabilize it both socially and politically to cause wars. The Decepticons later invade these war torn worlds and take anything they can use. They usually turn the surviving population into slaves.
- The Autobots try to stop this from happening, though they only have a 50% successrate.
- The Witwicky family, Sparkplug, Spike and Buster make first contact with the Autobots. They keep this a secret for many years, they even help them on covert missions. Spike and Buster eventually join Skywatch and are actually helping the Autobots from the inside.
- There is only a small group of Autobots on Earth.
- The Decepticons launch a fullscale invasion and Earth gets conquered.
- All the world goverments eventually surrender and cooperate since the Decepticons have a fleet parked in orbit capable of ending all life on the planet.
- The Autobots arrive and defeat the Decepticons in a long campaign.
- The Autobots leave Earth while sharing some advanced tech to help the Earth rebuild.
Chapter 3: Return to Cybertron- Cybertron is reactivating and sends out a signal to all Transformers.
- A campaign starts to repopulate Cybertron, both Autobots and Decepticons fight to get as many territories as possible.
- Cybertron is capable of producing massive amounts of energon, the faction that holds the planet will likely win the war.
- Cybertron is golden in color since it got energized again.
- Turmoil in the Decepticon ranks, many Decepticon warlords will attemp to wrest control from Megatron but ultimately fail.
- A great number of subgroups will be introduced.
- The war is eventually resolved by declaring Cybertron neutral. Damaging the planet even more would probably doom it to another shutdown. The Autobots and Decepticons each roughly control a half of the planet. No fighting is allowed on the planet, but the rest of the universe is fair game.
Chapter 4: Ancient enemy- Starscream manages to assassinate Megatron by sabotaging the spacebridge he was using. Megatron disappears without a trace.
- Starscream loses his claim to leadership, Shockwave instead leads Megatron's troops. The other warlords don't wish to follow Shockwave and the Decepticon empire splinters.
- Various outposts near the edge of both Autobot and Decepticon territories get attacked by a mysterious third faction, the G2 Cybertronians.
- The G2 Cybertronians are led by Liege Maximo, the first Decepticon.
- A long campaign is fought against the G2 Cybertronians. The G1 Autobots and Decepticons team up and eventually manage to push through to Liege Maximo's base.
- Vector Prime and Nexus Prime show up early in this chapter. They will face Liege Maximo near the end of this chapter.
- Liege Maximo is beaten and sealed away. He however had a failsafe. Liege Maximo had a number of agents infiltrate Cybertron during chapter 3. It was their mission to find out where the Fallen was sealed. These agents had special sparks capable of breaching the seal.
- The Fallen returns.
- Megatron is retrieved with a upgraded G2 body. He was sent deep within G2 territory early in the chapter. Liege Maximo had his damaged body retrieved and upgraded. The plans Maximo had for him were largely unknown since Megatron was kept in stasis.
Chapter 5: Resolution- Megatron returns and assumes leadership again.
- The Fallen along with his agents manage to communicate with Unicron. They receive instructions to allow Unicron into this universe.
- Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourge show up. At first it seems that they are working with the Fallen, but later it turns out that they are actually trying to get rid of him.
- Galvatron and his mooks are from 100 years in the future. Galvatron reveals that he was once Megatron, but that he was changed by Unicron to become his herald.
- Galvatron defeats Optimus Prime and takes the Matrix from him.
- Optimus Prime is rebuilt into Powermaster Prime to be able to take on Galvatron.
- The Fallen defeats G2 Megatron and tosses him into a pitchblack portal.
- Vector Prime confronts the Fallen, but is beaten. He quickly throws himself into the black portal.
- Galvatron manages to lock the Fallen into the plasma energychamber and keeps him confined there.
- Nexus Prime invites both the Autobot and Decepticon leaders to a meeting and explains their origins. He unfortunately tells them that Unicron is coming and they only have 2 years to prepare for it.
- Galvatron had meanwhile been very busy to make his way to Cybertron's core. There he inserts the Matrix into the core. The Last Autobot appears and asks why he is doing this.
- Optimus Prime also receives a Matrix from Scourge, but this Matrix is slightly different since it looks a bit damaged and worn. Scourge explains that it will work for what they are planning and then disappears.
- Future Galvatron takes charge of the Decepticons.
- Unicron appears, attacks a old G2 Cybertronian starfortress and reformats it's two most powerful warriors into Cyclonus and Scourge. The rest gets transformed into clones of them.
- Another Galvaton emerges from Unicron's surface, he is sent by Unicron take charge of the Decepticons and crush the Autobots.
- This new Galvatron is revealed to be same Megatron that was thrown into the black portal. He and his army attack Cybertron, but both Autobots and Decepticons fight back.
- Future Galvatron manages to take out the new Galvatron and his goons with help from the Last Autobot.
- Vector Prime returns, he is heavily damaged. He takes the new Galvatron along with Cyclonus and Scourge and sends them to the future.
- Unicron finally arrives.
- The endgame starts, the remaining original 13 manage to hold Unicron back for a while.
- Future Galvatron reveals that he had been working with Vector Prime all along.
- Optimus and Galvatron manage to get inside Unicron once there he opens the Matrix. The Matrix heavily damages Unicron, but it doesn't destroy him.
- All Transformers get teleported away from Cybertron as it transforms into robotmode. Primus now takes on Unicron himself and manages to free Optimus and Galvatron.
- Primus takes heavy damage but eventually manages to defeat Unicron.
Epilogue- Primus transforms back into planet mode. All the Transformers are transported back to the surface.
- Primus goes dormant again.
- The Matrix in his core took damage during the fight, it now resembles the one Scourge gave to Optimus. This Matrix is mostly depleted.
- The Fallen was sealed away in the same prison as Liege Maximo.
- The remaing members of the 13 originals negotiate a peacetreaty between the Autobots and Decepticons. The Decepticons no longer invade other worlds and become peacekeepers like the Autobots.
- Optimus Prime retires, he passes his leadership on to Rodimus Prime.
- Galvatron also retires from leadership, he leaves with Vector Prime to fight Unicron in other dimensions.
- 100 years in the future we see how Galvatron was released from Unicron's influence. The now replenished Matrix located at the core is handed to him by Rodimus Prime to use in the past. This Galvatron is sent back to the beginning of chapter 5.
- Cybertron of the future is a utopia. Autobots and Decepticons no longer exist, they now call themselves Cybertronians. The remnants of the G2 Cybertronian empire also joined up with them. They now maintain the peace in the universe.
- Optimus Prime is said to have replaced Alpha Trion.
Faction structures
Each faction has multiple armies, many characters that received toys in the past are in these armies as elite soldiers. The rest are essentially generics, redshirts and mooks, we really love our cannonfodder...

Autobot Leaders:
Supreme Commander: Optimus Prime
Optimus doesn't really need a introduction. He leads all Autobots and was chosen to carry the Matrix after Sentinel got slaughtered.
Ultra Magnus:
He's essentially Optimus' righthand man. He's really good at his job, he can deal with that now. His troops include most of the characters we saw in season 1 and 2 of the cartoon along with the movie. Ultra Magnus' base of operations is Metroplex. Ultra Magnus' second in command is Prowl.
Fortress Maximus/Cerebros
Leader of the Headmasters, Targetmasters, Powermasters, Trainbots and Technobots. Fortress Maximus was originally bonded to the Nebulon called Galen, Galen's death at the hands of Scorponok quickly forced Spike to become Cerebros' new headmaster partner.
Max's second in command is Shoki.
Dai Atlas
A powerful and capable leader, he was put in charge of energon distribution. The R&D divisions under Dai Atlas managed to resize Transformers into Micromasters, thus conserving even more fuel. He also commands all the Micromaster gestalts. Dai Atlas second in command is Countdown.
Metalhawk
Leader of the Pretenders, his troops interact more directly with alien civilisations. His base of Operations is Grand Maximus.
Metalhawk's second in command is Grand, though this role is often relegated to Cloudburst on some fieldmissions.
Star Sabre
A living legend, Star Sabre was already a elite Autobot under Sentinel Prime. Star Sabre's army specializes in freeing worlds from Decepticon occupation. For this reason he pooled his resources with Ultra Magnus to liberate Earth. Star Sabre's second in command is Victory Leo.

Decepticon Leaders
The Decepticon powerstructure is somewhat different from the Autobots. The Decepticon leaders are refered to as Lords instead of commanders.
Supreme overlord: Megatron
Megatron created the Decepticons to overthrow the then corrupt council of elders. Megatron's creed is "might makes right" for this reason we see many Decepticons usurp positions of others. Megatron and those under him often use Trypticon as a base. Megatron assigned a number of "loyal" Decepticons to answer directly to him:
- Shockwave, second in command
- Soundwave, head of espionage and information gathering
- Onslaught, primary strategist (along with Shockwave)
- Starscream, aircommander
- Motormaster, groundassault
Scorponok
Scorponok revised his transformation to match Fortress Maximus. Now Zarak combines with a regular sized body (MegaZarak). This body later becomes Scorponok's head. Scorponok commands all the Headmasters, Targetmasters, Powermasters, Seacons and Terrorcons. Scorponok is officially the leader of his army, in truth he shares leadership with the brutal Overlord.
Thunderwing
Thunderwing, a archenemy of Metalhawk. He commands all the Pretenders. Thunderwing has caused many wars among alien races and moved in to finish off any remaining factions. He usually moves from planet to planet with his Metroplex clone Metrotitan.
Thunderwing's second in command is Bludgeon.
Straxus
A minor leader among the Decepticons, his main task is to guard the energon production sites and improve output. Straxus will often resort to forced labor to meet his quota's. Staxus fields a army of Micromasters in addition to his regular army. Staxus was also responsible for creating the slave army known as Minicons. Straxus' second in command is Ratbat.
Deszaras
Deszaras is a mystery even among the other Decepticon leaders. Rumors indicate that he was a prisoner in Iacon before the war, why he was arrested is still unknown. Deszaras was quite impressed with Monstructor, hence he decided to clone him and create Dinoking. He is also the master of the unstoppable Liokaiser. Deszaras second in command is Leozack.
Galvatron
Galvatron replaced Megatron and made some changes to the commandstructure placing Cyclonus and Scourge above the others.
Starscream was quickly relieved of his duties and put into stasislock. Shockwave went renegade with Starscream until he came back during the battle with Unicron. Galvatron's second in command is Cyclonus, though Scourge will often work in conjunction with him.
Other FactionsG2 Cybertronians
Liege Maximo's faction, a stellar empire easily more powerful then either Autobots or Decepticons. This faction splintered when Liege Maximo was defeated.
Junkions
Space scavengers. They don't have the nonsense "tv talk" in this version. Instead they scavenge what they can find and trade with others. They eventually become trading partners with the Autobots. The Junkions are at no point actively at war with the Decepticons.
Neutrals
Led by Elita One. Their new homeworld is called Paradron. They remained neutral in the conflict until a full scale Decepticon assault forced them to fight back. Paradron became a independant ally of the Autobots. Though many inhabitants of the planet have joined the Autobots and left the planet for good. Paradron is also a trading partner of the Autobots. Sandstorm lived on Paradron before joining the Wreckers. Drift ended up on this world before the Decepticon assault, it was here that he changed sides.
Quintesons
Once a noble species of scientists and explorers. They became corrupted and decadent when a number of the Fallen's agents made contact with them. The Quintesons grew greedy and wanted to found a empire of their own. First they needed slaves in the form of Cybertronians, so they kidnapped a number TF's to study their technology. They quickly learned how to create sparks and various servants. A number of the servants were the Allicons, Sharkticons, slaves etc. This caused them to come into conflict with the ancient Autobots led by Nova Prime. All the "slaves" were given homes on Cybertron and merged with the population.
Items of noteArmies:All armies have a few gestalts or gestalt sized warriors in their arsenal. Most of the bases are also citybots. The largest parts of all armies are generics, think of the armies seen in the War For Cybertron game.
There'd also be the inclusion of characters outside of G1. They'd ofcourse be adapted to resemble G1 designs:
Tidalwave (Armada) He'd be gestalt sized
Slipstream (Animated) The female seeker
Sideways (Armada) Works for the Fallen
Lugnut (Animated) We already saw him in AHM
Bulkhead (Animated)
Hostshot (Armada)
The list goes on, but you get the idea.
CharactersThere's too many characters to list, but I'll dive into a few.
Starscream
He's actually good at plotting in this story. Megatron never found out that Starscream was the one behind the spacebridge accident. Galvatron found this out because he picked this information up in the future. Starscream was eventually restored by Shockwave by using a Pretendershell stolen from Metalhawk.
Nightbeat and Minerva
Minerva is what the Japanese got instead of Nightbeat. For this reason I'd make them siblings.
Galvatron
He's the wildcard in the story. His original appearance would sport his season 3 colorsheme. His future appearance would have his grey comic colors. This Galvatron is vstly different from all the others since he isn't crazy nor evil. Galvatron is like Megatron when he was still fighting the corrupt goverment.
Prowl
Based on his Budiansky version. He's a good leader, not a whiney bureaucrat.
Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime
We see him grow during the story. He doesn't get shoved in as a leader. He gets chosen as a leader by Optimus once the war is over. A new leader for a new era.
Impactor
You can't have the Wreckers without this guy, it just wouldn't be the same. He gets to lead the Autobot's most brutal elite unit.
Arcee
IDW version, definately. She takes a liking to Springer and joins the Wreckers. She eventually slaughters Jhiaxus in chapter 4.
Silverbolt
He overcame his fear of heights a long time ago. He befriends Hot Rod and goes on a mission with him in the distant past. Silverbolt is also good friends with Ironhide.
secondary plotsThe death of Scrounge
Blaster had great regrets about not being able to save Scrounge from the smeltingpool. Scrounge's death would change Blaster forever.
Retrieving the Allspark key
Hot Rod gets sent back to the end of Golden age to stop Sideways from stealing the Allspark key. Being alone in this alien era he gets teamed up with Silverbolt. He and Silverbolt stop Sideways, but Silverbolt takes some extra time to show how the Decepticons were treated like garbage before they rebelled. Hot Rod gains insight into the nature of the conflict.
The Minicons
Straxus had the minicons created as slaves, the Decepticon Micromasters would be their taskmasters. A few of them manage to escape to Earth and tell Bumblebee, Jazz and Sparkplug (human) about their plight. Jazz and Bumblebee don't know what to make of them. The leader of the escaped minicons takes on the name of Sparkplug because he never had a name before. The Minicons are freed when Dai Atlas' forces invade Jhiaxus' territory. Most of the Minicons eventually move to Paradron to get away from the war, some join with either the Autobots or Decepticons.
The Quinteson incursion
The Quintesons wished to expand their empire. They signed a non-aggression pact with the Decepticons. The Quintesons wanted to enslave various Autobot outposts but were defeated by Metalhawk. The Fallen would kill most of their leaders to put them in line again...
Ironhide and Kup
These guys are old, they used to serve on the elite guard long before the war started. They would see the end of the war and retire in peace. But before that they were mentors to the younger Autobots.
Retrieving the Allspark key
The Allspark key disappeared around the end of the golden age. The Fallen sent Sideways back through a timeportal to retrieve it. Vector Prime notices this and sends back Hot Rod and Silverbolt to beat Sideways to the key. Hot Rod learns a great deal from Silverbolt about this era, most notably how bad the pre-Decepticons were being treated. They succeed and give the key to Alpha Trion. Vector Prime sent Hot Rod back on purpose, he wanted to teach him the errors of a decadent and arrogant society.
Just a few of the stories that would make up the whole.
So, that's my idea, it could probably use some tweaking in places and can definately be fleshed out more.
Anybody else got any ideas they've been kicking around for a while now?
