I just received this email from the people who run the toy show ...

ANTIQUE-COLLECTIBLE TOY & DOLL WORLD SHOW
Sunday, October 24, 2010

Kane County Fairgrounds
525 South Randall Road St. Charles IL 60174

8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

ADULTS $8.00 CHILDREN FREE FREE PARKING

The Antique-Collectible Toy & Doll World Show is one of the longest running antique shows in the Chicago area because of the rare, unusual, and precious treasures that exhibitors always bring. The October 24 event will be loaded with desirable items, packing three enormous exhibit halls and several pavilions with every imaginable type of toy and doll, as well as old-fashioned holiday treasures. Come and enjoy the playful fun on Sunday, October 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Kane County Fairgrounds, 525 South Randall Road, in St. Charles, IL 60174.

Now is a great time to search for vintage Halloween and Christmas collectibles displayed alongside antique childhood playthings at a show that has been the main source of extraordinary memorabilia for 37 years. This show serves as the deal-making ground for buyers and sellers as it turns a quiet, rural patch just west of Chicago into a bustling hub of activity. Thousands of visitors from all over America, Canada, Europe, Puerto Rico, Japan and China come to each Chicago Toy Show to practice the familiar ritual that starts with "What's your best price?" and usually ends with the exchange of money and two smiling faces.

Toy and doll hunters scramble in all directions across the fairgrounds to track down favorite exhibitors and to find elusive toys on their "must have" list. Nothing equals the excitement of a collector spotting the long-lost toy or doll that he has been seeking for years. The treasures are proudly carried to collections all over the world from this international show.

Give yourself and your family a special treat. Admission is $8.00 for adults, children are free, and parking is free.

I might be there. It's about 15 minutes away from me. If I go, I'll be there right when the doors open.

It was $6 eight years ago so with money the way it is, I wouldn't consider the gradual rise over 8 years to $8 that bad.

Yeah, that's a reasonable rise. I just figured it would be 5 or 6 without any knowledge of what it used to be.

Well, I got the buyers remorse over Generations Red Alert. I bought it online for 20.99 with shipping, and low and behold the Wal-mart at Des Plaines has like five of them for 9 bucks. The toy'r'us across the street has nothing new.

I stopped by the Bloomingdale TRU and they had 2 Battle Blade Primes (new Voyager mold) as well as 1 Banzai-Tron in stock. They also had one Animated Ironhide on hand as well. The Wal-Mart in Algonquin had a Hailstorm and a Generations Red Alert as well as a couple of the new PCC 5-packs. The TRU in Algonquin had one BB Prime and a Banzai-Tron aside from the usual.

I checked through your list (and bolded the title of your for sale and want list to make it a little easier to read), but don't have anything to help you out with your want list.

Do you know when you'll be up there? I always aim to be there early but that never seems to happen.

I have a Halloween party I'm going to on Saturday night with my wife so I imagine it'll be a late night. I'm going as "Officer Daddy". Should be fun, going to shave my beard into a mustache just for the occasion ... never had a mustache before. Every good cop has to have a mustache, right? Thinking about using G1 Megatron with the tip wrapped with orange tape as my gun. ;)

Anyway, not sure if Saturday night will prevent me from going early on Sunday. But we'll see. It'd be great to meet up with a few of you there. I'll probably do a sweep through the place on my own first just to find where everything's at. Never know what you'll find there. Always hit or miss ... just have to go with an open mind.

I'll send you a PM.

Sightings today ...

St Charles Toys R Us had a lone Masterpiece Grimlock up for grabs.

The Target across the street had a lone Marvel Universe Ghost Rider figure. Speaking of Marvel Universe ... what is Wal-marts thing against that line right now? It seems like they cleared out all of their Marvel Universe figures to make room for Iron Man 2 toys a while back and never brought back the MU toys. It's weird if you ask me.

St Charles Meijer had the PCC wave 2 two packs as did the Walmart on Lake off 355/290 next to Best Buy. Nothing of interest at the St Charles Walmart next to TRU.

I'd love to get that G2 Scorpion watch but $80 seems a little steep for me without the box. If it had the box, then I think this would be a done deal. That's actually the first one I've ever actually seen on eBay so it might be worth that, I'm just not familiar with that piece.

Sorry I wasn't able to meet up with you today at the show. I accidentally left my phone at home which made my day a little difficult, especially with my wife not having a way to contact me.

I did make it out to the Kane County toy show, as you can see from my toy sightings in my post above. I was there about two hours from 10:30am to 12:30pm. I hadn't been to a show since the October 2008 show. I was actually very, very impressed with how much the show has grown and changed in those two years. For those of you who didn't make it, there was actually a very large amount of Transformers at this show. If I didn't basically own everything, it would have been an incredible local general toy show. There were easily a couple of hundred Transformers at this show. If you forgot to go check the big building and only did the outside dealers, then you missed out on all of the good stuff.

For those of you who didn't make it, here's kind of a rundown on things I remember seeing at the show ...

  • Outside Transformers dealer from Wisconsin who visits Seibertron.com (he stopped me when he saw my shirt) and sounds like a Dairycon regular, nice guy. Had some Japanese Beast Wars stuff like BW2 Galvatron MIB and some G1 stuff like a MIB Powermaster Optimus Prime. Might have had a total of a dozen or so boxed figures. Had a lot of loose figures in a couple of dealer table cases but they were a jumbled mess.
  • just two years ago, they only had one of the exhibit halls with the two large rooms in addition to the outside pavilions. The one room was used for toys and the other room was used for dolls. This year, they used two separate exhibit halls which used both rooms for toys in the one hall and the other two rooms for dolls (though I only remember seeing one doll room despite what their website says).
  • I initially went to the room on the right and was fairly disappointed, but I was also expecting the other room to be the dolls at that point. It was mostly older toys from before I was born. The other dealer room to the left of when you walked in had a lot of newer stuff which made me feel like they are paying more attention to grouping similar dealers together.
  • One Chicago comic convention regular, The Toy Cave from Pennsylvania, was there in attendance. This dealer room looked more like the typical dealer room at conventions that I'm used to. The Toy Cave had their regular vast assortment of toys. As for Transformers, they had two display cases full of loose figures including what appeared to be a complete Piranacon (~ $200!!!), as well as about 20 or so other complete figures, they also had a Fortress Maximus with a bunch of parts and a few boxed figures. They also had some boxed Japanese Beast Wars toys. Well known collector and eBay seller Alex Bickmore was at the Toy Cave table helping them out.
  • There was a dealer next to them that had about a dozen boxed G1 toys including a couple of Optimus Primes, Jetfires, a Megatron, a few of the Seeker jets and others. I think they also had a G1 Omega Supreme. This dealer also had some loose Transformers including a G1 Devastator, Brainstorm and a few other couple dozen G1 toys. On the floor, under the table, they had a large tub full of about fifty or so Beast Wars era toys through RID. They were all plastic wrapped with parts of their box and accessories which I thought was an interesting way for a dealer to keep the figures in pretty decent shape for people rummaging through a tub show after show. Saw a nice RID Galvatron and RID Prowl in that tub along with a lot of extremely nice conditioned chromed Beast Wars toys. If you're not familiar with toys from around that time period, the colored chrome flakes off over time ... but not on these ones ... they looked like they were all pulled right out of their boxes.
  • The north most aisle had a dealer that had some reasonably priced Animated toys. 5 voyager class figures (lugnut, wreck-gar, optimus prime and two others I can't remember) for around $23 a piece which isn't bad. They also had about a dozen deluxe class figures priced around $12 which were all unique characters if I recall correctly.
  • There was another dealer that had the Costco exclusive two pack of Galaxy Force Optimus Prime and Crumplezone. That is a nice looking piece. It's too bad they didn't give those toys exclusive paint jobs or else I would've been all over that item.
  • Lots and lots of Star Wars and even modern 80s to present GiJoe toys. I saw several dealers who had Star Wars Transformers, but I didn't find the Darth Vader Death Star I'm looking for so that I can get the cape I accidentally threw out last year with the box.
  • One dealer had a bunch of Hasbro reissues and a couple of the Japanese reissues. They seemed reasonably priced with some room to negotiate for the savvy buyer. He had the Hasbro Powermaster Optimus Prime and Thundercracker reissues that I need to complete my Hasbro reissue collection but I didn't feel like paying $125 for Powermaster Optimus Prime and $50 for Thundercracker ... both toys that I already own several times over. When I buy them, it'll be a steal or I won't own them. This dealer probably easily had about two dozen reissues.
  • There was another dealer that had a few boxed G1 toys but no prices ... Thrust, Topspin, 2x Kickbacks, and a Bombshell.

I think that's about it ... or at least that's all I can remember. If you've never been to a Kane County toy show ... this was actually a really good year for Transformers. No, I didn't buy anything but I also didn't see any deal that screamed "buy me because I'm so cheap" nor did I see any items that I'm missing (though that's few and far between with my collection) and especially after I just bought a MIB Metrotitan this past week. I think the only thing that really caught my eye besides the Hasbro reissues of Powermaster Optimus and Thundercracker was a loose Runamuck toy that was in fairly decent shape with all of its stickers. Had the stickers been in perfect condition, I would've bought him. But they weren't, so I left him there.

Anyone else have anything to share from what they saw? Sorry I wasn't able to meet up with anyone there today due to being an idiot and leaving my phone at home. Hopefully we can try again at a later date. Maybe a Seibertron.com TGI Fridays night might be in order.

I was the guy at the Kane County Toy Show that got stood up by Ryan

Now u owe me a beer

U covered what was there pretty well. Did u see the Protectobot box set?

There was some decent deals and a lot of garbage there, probably about a 50/50 split.

The good was a good amount of MIB figures, while priced a little on the high side for the most part I'm sure that can be remedied by slapping them in the face with a wad of $20's. Any of the stuff I ended up finding in totes or under the main displays was ate by dogs(seriously) or whites were so yellow I was laughing looking at some.

My problem was no cash to spend for toys, but a trunk load of Transformers stuff that's extra/duplicates/not wanted. Ended up not being able to broker a deal, but was trying for a boxed G1 Megatron, found 2 complete and very nice examples there.

This show was pretty killer, I had heard about it but never attended. The 7 mth old was staring wide eyes everywhere and I even my gf ended up liking it. Definitely a neat place to spend a day and have a good time
